My home is in the mountains of northern Utah, not far from Yellowstone and Colorado. The narrator missed telling about the beautiful mountains of Idaho and Montana (Glacier National Park and the Sawtooth Range). Pick anywhere in the area, and you’ll love it. Be aware that winters can be quite long and brutal, but if prepared, you’ll love that, too. I’ve been to Banff and Jasper in the Canadian Rockies. Wow! 7

Fellow Utahn. Glacier national Park was one of the most breathtaking places I have ever driven. I drove there in early March right as they opened the road through. Wish I could have stayed longer. Utah is a very interesting place, geographically. We have 10k+ ft mountains, the salt flats, desert valleys, wetlands all within 100 miles. Moab, the arches down south, and even a little bit of the Grand canyon, you can see so much here. There are a million places to hike, go camping and just places to enjoy outdoors. If you have never been in a high elevation secluded area at night during a meteor shower, it should be on your bucket list.

(7) I grew up in Utah and been inside the mountains myself. I'm right in the valley of the Rockies. I can never ever get tired of looking around me during the seasons. Winters are the whitest peaks I've ever seen. Spring with the melting snow and green slowly coming out. Summer spotted by greens and browns. Finally autumn/fall decorated by reds and yellows.

Honestly, you could visit all of them in a week if you don't do a ton of site seeing. From salt lake city (probably the closest international airport?) you can drive to the Grand canyon in less than 12 hours. The northern end is a very dry desert, the south end is actually fairly Cold comparatively, it reminds me of yellow stone weather and elevation wise, except grand canyon instead of geothermal activity. You can easily drive 4-5 hours, and hit either Moab or the arches, stay the night there and do site seeing, when you are worn out, drive down to the Grand canyon, take the Moab route back up, and hit Yellowstone. I am biased, but my favorite location in Utah is actually the salt flats and the high elevation desert.

Outside of manmade names, the actual mountain range stretches, without interruption, from northern Alaska to the southern most tip of Chile. It is massive. Maybe the longest contiguous mountain range on earth. Probably 10,000 miles.

It extends down into Mexico, and with a few breaks, all of the way down to the southern tip of South America. It has different names in different places, Rocky Mts. in some places, Andes in other places, but it is pretty much all the same. The tallest mountains are in the US are in Alaska.

7. I've lived in Denver, Colorado for the last 12 years. Moved from New Jersey where my property taxes were $24,000 per year on a 7,200 sq/ft home on 1.2 acres of land. Home in Denver was valued at $435,000 when we bought it and is valued between $900,000 and $1 million now. Colorado property taxes for a .33 acre lot and the home are about $7,200 per year. There was a real estate spike that is just starting to come back down and stabilize again, so it is slightly more reasonable to buy a home now, but is usually in the top 10 most expensive States to live. The nicer the weather, scenery and job market are, the pricier the land, taxes and houses. The cheaper the land, the less you would really want to live there (lived in Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, New York, New Jersey and Louisiana) and I promise this is my favorite State I've lived in, by far. It is really tough to be unhappy looking out over the foothills with the snow capped peaks looming in the background.

Parts of Canada is so beautiful that it takes your breath away. The biggest difference is, other than population, the states are much more commercial. The rockies creates a wall so moisture from the Pacific ocean cannot reach the plains. So middle America is farmland.

I lived and worked in Colorado for 35 years and moved out to Wyoming to retire. To many people in Colorado have made it very crowded and yes very expensive to live. I found life good in both states. Wyoming less people and a lot less expensive. Wyoming has the same type landscape ,and Yellowstone national park. Wyoming is everything Colorado is except less expensive. Come and experience it for your self.

7 Colorado is so beautiful. Our State is stunning. We have 58 Fourteeners (14ers) in our state. The peaks have to be over 14,000 feet to qualify as a 14er. One of the most famous is Pikes Peak, America’s Mountain, 14,115 feet. In 1893 Katharine Lee Bates was completely captivated when she first saw Pikes Peak. She penned our wonderful song “America The Beautiful.” There are a group of mountaineers called the AdAmAn Club. It was formed in 1922. You can read about it, so fascinating. On December 30-31st of each year they climb the snowy and icy mountain to the top of Pikes Peak. It is windswept and treacherous. The windchill can feel like -50 degrees. At Midnight every New Year’s Eve, they present the most marvelous and wondrous fireworks display from the peak. I am in complete awe every time I watch it. From the top of Pikes Peak, on a clear day, you can see Wyoming, Nebraska, New Mexico, Kansas, and Oklahoma. Also the curvature of the earth fading into the distance.

I'm from the East Coast so most of the hiking I've done is around the Appalachian Trail. One summer I was fortunate enough to be visiting a friend who lived near denver. We drove a few hours towards the Vail area to hike a trail to Fancy Pass. It was amazing! At a certain point the trees disappeared and all vegetation ended. It was the middle of summer and I was hiking through snow in shorts and a t-shirt. I was in really good shape at the time so I had no trouble breathing in the thin air. In fact I felt no different than being at sea level. But at the very end, while walking back towards the car, I felt the beginning of a headache. It was the worst headache I've ever had. For the next several hours all I could do was lay down and close my eyes. It was totally worth it though. I would do it again if I had the chance.

Crossed the Canadian Rocky Mountains while on the Alaska Highway, traveling from Fairbanks to the Lower 48. It was slow going due to the Big Horn sheep (or maybe they were Dall sheep??) that were walking down the two-lane road, taking their sweet time, lol. Gave us time to enjoy viewing the herd of Forest Buffalo that was bedded down in a small meadow alongside the road. Beautiful country! 7777 please!

7 We are US citizens who retired Five years ago, bought a large motorhome, sold everything and hit the road. We like to boondock a lot, which is camping for free on government land in some of the most beautiful places imaginable. A few years ago, we explored the mighty 5 National Parks in southern Utah for 5 months not spending a dime on campgrounds or RV parks, camping just outside of 5 national parks and dozens of state parks. I think Utah is the state with the most natural beauty, but Colorado is not far behind. The following year we did the same in Colorado, spending 5 months traveling all around the state like a tourist. Our biggest expenses are food and fuel - both of which are controllable. We live like the rich and famous going where we like and doing what we want, on our meager social security checks and a small pension as this lifestyle is very affordable. We see many Europeans on our travels who are touring the country in rental RVs having the time of their lives and doing so affordably too. You should give it a try. It sounds like you'd love it.

Canada and the United States have been the same country a number of times. Native American nations like the Huron in Michigan (part of the US) having the main Huron population in Ontario (part of Canada), and the northwest coast tribes like the Tlingit, Haida, and the Chinook who all span from Washington state (USA) up into British Columbia (Canada), and into Alaska (USA again): and they all still see Canada and The USA as a combined land with No Borders. So Canada is very much like the northern most part of the United States, as Mexico is very much like the southwestern most part of the United States - thus the name "North America", which is officially a combination of Canada, the USA, and Mexico: with all 3 nations making ONE LAND.

If you love mountains, nature, hunting, fishing, and living 'off the grid (being invisible to the government), then Colorado will bring you joy. Texas is very different. It is not a beautiful. It is even a bit barren, like a desert. You are on the grid in Texas. It is a conservative, republican, evangelical Christian state, so if you are not all of those things, you will not Fit-in in Texas. Yes, Texas offers friendly people & good BBQ, but it demands a chunk of your soul to live there. For me, the most balanced state for natural beauty, friendly people, great weather, politics that leave you alone, great food, ethnic cultures, and an abundance of opportunities for making money, or making friends, or gaining great experiences, That state is California.
