"College" can also be used to designate and differentiate departments within a University. For example. The College of Health and Human Services, The college of Medicine, the college of engineering and so fourth etc

In America, community colleges only grant associate degrees (2 year) or certificates. Colleges grant bachelor degrees (4 year) and sometimes master's degree (bachelor plus two years), while universities grant doctoral degrees (master's plus ?? years because I have no idea about that).

Yes Johnny Cash was in several TV shows and movies. He played a crook in Little House on the Prairie in an episode, in the mini series North & South he played the famous John Brown who in 1859 held a train hostage in Harper's Ferry, Virginia until the militia showed up.

Why do Brits think we don't play soccer in the U.S.? We have high school teams, college teams, Pro. teams and Olympic teams.
@themourningstar338

What I find to be particularly funny is when a European learns that soccer is a common and popular kids sport here, they then proceed into the line of thinking that this is some sort of new and recent development, and that soccer is on it's way to becoming the biggest sport in the U.S. 😂😂 What they fail to realize is that soccer has been played in the USA since the 1850's, and has been a popular kids sport here since the 1960's. If someone here never played soccer (outside of PE class) growing up, they most likely had a friend or sibling that did. Or as an adult had their own kid or niece/nephew that played on a team. Soccer already has it's place in our society and has been ingrained in our culture for a long time.... as a mostly school-aged sport for kids/students (with little to zero continuing interest beyond their own, or their kid's, childhood involvement). On the Pro or International levels it's always going to be a niche sport with limited interest from the general population.

WE do starters too but appetizers is slightly more typical. The basketball shoes also "high tops". Soccer was getting popular when I was in Jr. High School, so 1978 or so, probably b4 that since the area I grew up in tends to be 50 years behind the rest of the country. ;)

What's dumb about this theory, is if you are taking the elevator, see if you can pull off punching the floor number that you were told you needed to be. If you are taking the stairs, see if you can enter the floor of whatever floor you were told you needed to go to. Bless your heart

The Brits dropped off Soccer and left the continent. When they realized the rest of Europe called it Futbol/Football, they never told the U.S., Canada or Australia. Not our fault. Futbol had been popular in the United States for 50 years, but American Football, Baseball and Basketball maintain greater popularity as sports we created/refined. I played Soccer all the way up to High School, but had to choose Football or Soccer because I had to put on muscle mass to continue to be good at American Football but couldn't if I was running 30 kilometers every week for Soccer. I liked ⚽️, but I loved 🏈

In the US, one is presumed to be innocent until the state proves your guilt. The 5th Amendment protects us against the state in several ways. One way is that the state cannot force us to incriminate ourselves. If by answering a question we may be admitting to a crime, we can refuse to answer by "pleading the 5th".

Soccer had always, since I was a kid in the 70s, been popular among children. Kind of like checkers, but as we get older we always gravitate towards more entertaining sports with a bit more complexity. A checkers player will move on to chess, a soccer fan moves on to Football. The level of entertainment & complexity is as different as chess to checkers. Soccer will never have a following here.

What you're talking about is a Miranda right. You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be held against you. You have to right to have a an attorney present. If you can't afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you.

Actually, the constitution predates the "Miranda warning" by a few centuries.

Exam0le... If I'm a witness in a court case (someone else's court case) and the attorney asks me a question... but if I answer that question, I could implicate myself in another crime. I could plead the 5th so I wouldn't have to answer that question. Also, husbands and wives can't be called as witnesses against their spouses.

The whole pleading the 5th thing is more complex than it often sounds in videos like these. It also wouldn't be useful if arrested, even if your country did recognize the Constitution since it's utilized when giving testimony in court. If genuinely curious, I'd recommend a dedicated (and well researched) channel that covers U.S. law.

Riding shotgun means in front with the driver. It’s shotgun because the driver couldn’t protect while paying attention to the road. So the front passenger would carry the shotgun to protect the stage coach.

The term "college" usually means that it's a place that you can go to get an Associate's degree (2 years) or a Bachelor's degree (4 years) right out of high school. The term "university" typically encompasses a college, but also also has graduate level courses, so you can get a Master's degree, PhD, some have a lot school, med school, school of public health, etc. That being said, it's really common for Americans to use the term "college" to refer to both colleges and universities.

We have schools, colleges and universities; the difference is in the breadth of subjects taught. Schools teach basically one subject, colleges teach a group of related subjects and universities teach a wide array of subjects. Universities are comprised of several colleges and although colleges are generally divided into departments, they can also contain schools. Pleading the Fifth is different from 'the right to remain silent,' which refers to after you've been arrested, not having to answer any police investigatory questions without having consulted an attorney. I don't know what the guy was talking about having trouble finding ground/1st floor in elevators; one button says "G" and the other says "1"

A college is usually a part of a university. My university had a "College of Arts & Sciences" which is where most of us did our Major (English, Religion, Philosophy, Political Science, etc). But there was also a Business College, Medical School (beyond the 4 years of undergraduate), Law School, Seminary, and probably more. I went to a fairly large private university, but there are some "colleges" that aren't attached to a larger university (Amherst, Boston College).

@13:56 May I ask you why "Europeans get mad at this". Do they save the bile just for the US, or does it extend to the other countries that use the term soccer; USA, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Japan, South Africa, Southern Philippines and Papua New Guinea. Like the video stated, the term soccer originated/comes from England. It all seems to be a bit irrational.

Sorry, I would never subscribe to the channel! The bits he takes from other videos to illustrate his point are just disturbing! The Taking the Fifth was downright Racist, shoving a stereotype of a Black man stupid and obnoxious. If you want examples of using that amendment to avoid self incrimination is a real Right and should have actually been explained with something other than Slapstick parody. All these bits taken from television fail in their purpose of explaining some phrase in US culture.
