In this video, we will look at the key specifications of Europress Stainless steel Fittings. Europress offers an extensive range of over 30 fittings, including slip couplings, 90° elbows, adaptors, and reducing tees. Fittings up to 54mm can be easily identified by their distinctive blue press check indicator sleeve. This feature serves as a quality control measure as the blue film cracks when a press join is completed, allowing installers to peel it off and provides a visual confirmation of a secure connection.
Now let’s look at the main specifications.
• These fittings are constructed using high-quality 316 stainless steel, which makes them suitable for hygienic environments.
• They come with EPDM seal as standard with a temperature range of -20℃ to +95℃.
• Upon request, alternative FKM (also known as Viton) seals are available, these have a temperature range of -20℃ to 120℃. And withstanding spikes up to 180℃.
• EPDM seals are recommended for water and general applications, while FKM seals are better suited for corrosive environments such as oil, chemical, and high-temperature applications.
• The standard EPDM seals utilise a patented leak before press (LBP) design as an additional safety measure to verify that each joint has been pressed. The seal will leak if it has not been pressed.
• The pressure rating for all Europress Stainless steel fittings is 16 Bar or 232 PSI, with potential approval for up to 40 Bar on specific applications.
• The entire range has been approved to the following specifications: EN 1.4404, UNI EN 10088 (AISI 316L), AS 3688, UNI EN ISO 9001, DVGW, CSIRO ACTIVFIRE, AS 4118.2.1-1995, VdS CEA 4001, Watermark, ASME B31.3, AON, ABS.
While most of the Press fit fittings have a general press-fit insertion end, some have a threaded end.
The threaded end provides a convenient way to disassemble fixed pipes without the need for cutting them. Instead, you can disassemble them by loosening the union. This allows for easy maintenance of the piping system and removal of valves.
When considering threaded Europress Stainless Steel fittings, there are a couple of important points to remember. Firstly, all male threads, except union threads, are BSP taper, and all female threads, except union nut, are BSP parallel. However, it is essential to highlight that the union thread, which the union nut screws onto, is not a standard BSP thread. Instead, it has a parallel fine thread unique to Europress fittings. Different manufacturers have different union threads, meaning we can’t match up different brands of those manufactured fittings, so it must have the exact same thread.
Additionally, you may notice a measurement etched onto the fitting. For instance, on this particular one, you will find ‘3/8’ lasered onto it. It’s important to understand that this measurement refers to the union thread, not the connection fitting. The connection fitting will have a different size, so it’s important to differentiate between the two.
