There is a reason we Fairbanksans call it 'Los Anchorage'. Has all the same problems of a major city in the lower 48 but with better scenery. As for myself ,I only go there out of necessity. I've been in Fairbanks for 28 years and everytime I've gone to Anchorage, it s visibly more run-down and more crowded than my previous visit....crime has escalated through the roof as there is very serious drug problem in all of the state but much worse in the Matsu Valley/Anchorage area and the effects are visible.

Next time you head south stop at Jam Jams in Cantwell to eat sandwiches. Ditch the Subways.
