Hello Shiny Crafty People and welcome back to the channel!
I've been wanting to make a toiletries bag (also called a Dopp kit after the inventory, Charles Doppelt) for a while now and I've watched something like 15 or 16 videos from other creators.
In my last video, I made a cool toiletries bag but it was harder than I wanted to construct (here's the link: • Toiletries Bag: Full T... ), so here's an even easier version!
I took inspiration from this other video by a great content creator: • DIY Zippered Box Pouch...
I love this version because there are no crazy corners to cut and bind. Instead, you sew across the corner and then tack the corners to each other at each end, forming a cute little holder for a bottle or other item.
Here’s a link to the fusible fleece I used: amzn.to/4bJz3cT
If you want to get long zippers like I use, check out this link: amzn.to/3OLQAr2

I hope you try this fun boxed zipper pouch and, until next time, STAY CRAFY! Bye for now!

I watched your purple fabric video and I am pretty sure I watched a video with the corners sewn together. The more of these I watch, the more ideas we get. Thanks for the carefully planned videos.

I have been making similar bags with placemats, and for the corners, I mark the squares while the bag is flat, as you do in the video, and then with the tip of an iron I flatten and crease the fold, and then press the seam open just within the square. This makes it much easier (for me) to line up the crease with the sewn seam on the flattened seam allowance along the other side of the marked square. I stab stitch pins through the creased fold, lining the point up with the stitching and then put pins crosswise to hold. Another technique I have used is once the fold is flattened and creased with the iron, I lay a small strip of 1” masking tape exactly at the creases fold, and use that as a guide to Stan stitch the pins through to the sewn seam on the other side. The tape can be used multiple times, and is removed as soo as I have marched and pinned.

I just made this! Thank you! This was not easy for a beginner such as myself; however i love the way it turned out. My only issue is that the handle stitches could still be seen after i turned everything inside out and you could see those temporary stitches. Otherwise a fun project! Mine looks nowhere near as nice as yours does but I will keep practicing!
@timothytotten9409
@timothytotten9409 5 месяцев назад
Do you think it’s because the handle connections need to be further out? They’re meant to get trapped inside the corners you create.
@CheapRick
@CheapRick 5 месяцев назад
That most likely what happened; I am trying to make this again with the knowledge I gained from the first try! Also what is the fabric lining you used again? And do you cut that piece in half before starting? ( black fabric)

I complicate matters whenever possible. I’m thinking about how to add interior pockets or perhaps a length of 1” elastic to make additional holders for pillows bottles, etc. Obviously I’ll be making some of these. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for this excellent video. I'm having a hard time knowing when you cut and sewed the black lining. It was one full piece until around time stamp 12:40, then it was 2 pieces that had been sewn together. Am I missing something?

It’s a nylon pack cloth. Sold for outdoor items. But there are similar options at most large fabric stores.

The lining you mentioned the pieces are 9 x 14 sewed together with opening on bottom when you attach lining to the main fabric it looks like it is like the first version 18 x14 watching it they don't seem like the black is not sewed together with the opening later you show that it has the opening. could you if this is correct or is it lined up like the first version when applying zipper. will come back and attach my photos to show you and think i will also apply an interfacing to the nylon and on the other version i used bias tape for covering the seams. thanks for any input you can send my way
@babsrockers
@babsrockers 4 месяца назад
think i figured it out that you sewed just the bottom of the 9 inch side leaving the opening and making it 18 having the 14 inch side open to attach to the zipper side. please confirm if possible . love you videos tim
@timothytotten9409
@timothytotten9409 4 месяца назад
It needs to be two pieces with an opening left when you sew together. You may have caught my error because I originally did not use two pieces and had to go back and fix it. I just didn’t tell anyone that. So the lining definitely needs to be two pieces so you can turn the whole thing inside out later.

@timothytotten9409
@timothytotten9409 5 месяцев назад
The original piece should be 14x18. But you would need two pieces 14x9.5 or so if you are doing the split lining. I hope that makes sense.
