You're the first person I've ever seen tack BOTH ends of the zipper. I see so many people struggling to align the opened end when they sew that end seam. I usually sew a little scrap on the tails but your tack idea is much easier.

Great gifts for father's day, graduations, birthdays, etc. I love to watch your tutorials. They always make me smile and I like your style. You're not a perfectionist which makes it look so doable for us nonprofessionals at home. (Hope you know that is a compliment.) lol

Excellent, every year I participate in a charity called “share the dignity”, (which means filling a bag (I use a backpack) with personal care products for homeless women each November). And every year I think, this year, I’m going to make a toiletry bag, to add. Thanks to this tutorial, I will make Dopp kits. Thank you so much! I love how you call the zip pull, the dingle! 😂 Got to get me some of that tape you use with the zipper placement, hope it’s available in Australia.

Thanks for the tips and tricks. I have made a lot of zippered pouches. But, never made one without the exposed seams. I also have invisible zippers on a roll and just regular invisible zippers. I also have regular zippers on a roll. I have a lot of lacy zippers too. This is a project that I will be making. Thanks again. I am one that likes to do ladder stitch to close those holes.

Was unsure what a dopp kit meant. Looked it up and it is a US term for what us Brits call a toiletry bag. First designed by Charles Doppelt in 1926. I learned more today than I imagined.... love you our teaching style. Have a great week. Brenda (London, UK)

I started to follow your measurements and realized that it would be too small for the person I was making it for so I decided to use what I already cut for the lining for someone else's bag. Otherwise I followed your instructions with fabric cut a bit bigger. I sewed mostly by hand so it took much longer than it did for you. Other than the lining being a bit wonky it looks great. I was actually told that it looked like I bought it. Just made the second bag with the measurements you gave, and I do not know what happened, but mine looks smaller than the ones you made. It turned out to be a little bit longer than my hand. For anyone who is considering making this for someone who may be putting things like a normal sized hair brush in it then you may want to consider making it bigger. There has to be an easier way to do the corners that make the boxed shape. I think that was the hardest part of making this bag.

Great idea doing it in vinyl. I have made these for my sons. But all fabric. Will for sure make them vinyl pouches. Have you ever made the candy bag pouches. Everyone loves them. There vinyl on the out side. Only thing I changed was I don’t use the iron on vinyl. The iron on vinyl melts to easy. You should do the candy bag tutorial. If you use a walking foot vinyl won’t stick. Your daughter would love a M & M pouch.

Mister Domestic you can look up the tutorial. That is where I saw it. I have made tons of them. Very very had to turn. I have my husband turn mine. It hurts my fingers after I turn about four of them. Don’t put batting in them. Just the bag, vinyl and cotton lining. No iron vinyl either. I changed mine ups little then the way they do it in the tutorial. You should really do a tutorial on the candy bags.

MR DOMESTIC, YOU ARE THE BOMB!! Love your videos !! I have a tip for you, I've seen a couple of YT Video where they are going through the zipper seam for the turning process. So you don't have to make a seam in the bottom of the inside !! totally no seams, but I keep getting confused by it. Any help would be appreciated!!! If you like I can send you a link to the one ive seen. Looking forward to your reply !!!

Classic shape but I'm surprised so many of these tutorials make them without stabiliser. The design is so weak and floppy I think they cry out for it, otherwise contents just slide about on top of each other like in a plastic bag. There again, I'm an old reserved UK grouch so just do your own thing and enjoy! ;)

Question. First step. If I sew the front vinyl to the zipper first, won't sewing the lining 2nd cause the bobbin thread show a stitch line of on the vinyl? If so, can I avoid that if I sew the lining to the zipper as described first. Then add the vinyl with one seam showing. Going for the Levi look. Orange stitch, orange zipper on indigo vinyl. I will share a pic when finished if you care to see.
@killianlarkin1879
@killianlarkin1879 5 лет назад
First one done. Lessons learned. Lightweight vinyl ($3.99 w/coupon @ JoAnns). Sews great. No Tension/Bobbin issues. Packs down & expands easy for travel. Trade Off. So lightweight it is floppier than epected. Tape & sew linings to the zipper before tape/sew vinyl to the sides of the zipper. Otherwise bobbin thread of lining shows on the vinyl along the zipper. Note to self... Follow Matt when adding the tab. Put it in right-side-out. The tab does not flip when the bag is turned right-side-out. Glad i added a longer tab so it can hang from a hook.
@killianlarkin1879
@killianlarkin1879 5 лет назад
Apologies. Instructions capture lining is only sewn to zipper by the vinyl to zipper stitch. No need for the extra steps to sew lining to the zipper.
