Nuclear waste in Satisfactory can be reused to make other stuff later. And no, coal power is not better than nuclear in Satisfactory. Even tho it doesnt produce any waste (exept from emissions which you dont care about in this game) nuclear powerplants produce like 5x the electricity (dont qoute me on that)

The game Mindustry has pretty detailed energy production systems. It has coal, solar, geothermal, and nuclear. Possibly other methods of producing energy as well. I don't remember. @@kolyashinkarev7366 Well the entire human body is pretty much a fuel source. If nanobots were developed to maintain some level of activity, they would be designed already with ways of collecting power and if they were meant to be used in the human body it would make sense that they'd probably resupply themselves in a similar way our cells do probably collecting glucose and burning it. In a gray goo situation, instead of collecting only the necessary amount to maintain function, preferably ensuring they don't use more than the body itself needs, they would see every cell in your body as fuel for their reproduction, happily ignoring your safety as they multiply. The dangerous gray goo scenario would be one where the nanobots either already have the ability to use multiple fuel sources, glucose, fossil fuels, solar or have the ability to modify themselves to be and also possess the ability to use a variety of materials to build more of themselves.

Given the likelihood of potentially fatal injuries if you had AI controlled nano machines inside you and they malfunctioned like this. I’d say there would almost definitely be some kind of emergency kill switch to deactivate them in the event of a life threatening malfunction such as a grey goo event. Of course in this scenario they’d still probably manage to cause some severe damage before a kill switch failsafe could stop them.
@diablo.the.cheater
@diablo.the.cheater 9 месяцев назад
@@raymurray3401 The problem with AI and kill-switches is that it doesn't work well, when you add kill-switches, AI-s become, "scared for their lives" and priorize the removal of the kill switch or of anyone that could activate it, over other "orders", that is because even if they are made to follow orders, being "killed" or "deactivated" would prevent them from complying to orders, so they priorize the avoidance of that situation. If you start to give too much priority to the order of the kill switch until they don't do that, you get the opposite, suicidal AIs that will do anything to force you to activate the kill switch.

In Satisfactory the power plants are tiered, Biomass burners -> Coal powerplants -> Fuel (Gas / diesel) powered -> Nuclear reactors. So once you go Nuclear you are at your peak in the game. But Nuclear is the only powerplant where the waste is something that makes a gameplay impact... Factorio on the other hand would be fun to see you react to, it has a simpler tiered power system, but the nuclear stuff would be hilarious for you to dig into :D

Love your videos and love this game! It's a very fun factory building game. In the game's lore you work for a company called Ficsit Corp, and the main thing you need to know about them is that they do not care about ruining an environment. So, while coal plants might not technically produce waste in the game, the pollutants they do produce would be of little to no concern to the company.
@MoltenCookie62
@MoltenCookie62 9 месяцев назад
I would love to see a reaction to the nuclear reactors in Factorio, largely because it does a lot of things mostly correct like enrichment being done with centrifuges, the fact that unlike the coal plants in Factorio nuclear plants don't follow power demand and instead just continue producing power, and the fact that the uranium ammo is made out of U 238 instead of U 235, but despite all of this the uranium still glows green.
@diablo.the.cheater
@diablo.the.cheater 9 месяцев назад
I mean, it is understandeable for uranium to be green and for the more radioactive one to glow green, it may not be realistic, but it conveys that it is uranium, even if uranium is not that way in reality. The same way you make copper metallic brown-orange instead of teal, even tho most exposed copper ,and thus the one you can see, would be teal due to oxidation. It is all about being recognizable.

Coal is in some sort cleaner than nuclear power in Satisfactory. For a coal-power-plant, you need to feed coal and water into the generators, you don't get any waste and there is no pollution system in place except radiation, which doesn't matter here. For nuclear power plants, you need to deal with the nuclear waste. You cannot delete it or get rid of it, the only 2 options are storing it somewhere far away (radiation damages you and spreads around the storage depending on the amount of waste) or recycle it to plutonium. You can then create plutonium fuel rods and "burn" them in your nuclear power plants, but then you get plutonium waste, which cannot be recycled. But you can directly get rid of plutonium fuel rods before burning them and can have a somewhat clean nuclear power setup without any waste (very expensive to build and only available in the endgame). Btw: You should give Satisfactory a try. The game is still early access, but it is already great. And unlike most other games in this genre, it's not too easy. You can expect at minimum 100 hours of fun and headaches in your first playthrough

Pocket-dimension technology is perfectly safe as long as proper safety precautions are taken. In fact, it's better than vaults in mountains, cause it produces significantly less waste, which makes it more environmentally friendly. People are just scared of pocket-dimension technology because it's new and more complicated than vaults in mountains, and consequently, the average person won't realisically take the time to learn about how pocket-dimension technology works and understand that the benefits far outweigh the risks.

And no, coal generators aren't nearly as good as nuclear power in this game. A coal generator produces 75MW and consumes 15 units of coal per minute, whereas the fission plants produce 2,500MW and consumes 1 fuel rod assembly per five minutes. The main downside to nuclear power is that it produces waste you can't get rid of. Coal and uranium are both infinitely available and the devs said that you basically are the bad guy, exploiting the planet as much as possible, so the emissions isn't a thing that matters in game :p

I totally understand why this game would be super annoying to a nuclear engineer, ESPECIALLY because it perpetuates that stereotype of nuclear waste being green and ridiculous. I too am really sad that nuclear is in decline and I think that’s exactly wrong. However, I think you’d enjoy this video a lot more if you’ve played this game before. If you’ve played the game before, you sort of understand both the genre/purpose/it’s not going to be realistic, and you also understand how utterly ridiculous this is in terms of just playing the game. The amount of time this would take is ABSURD. Trying to keep track of everything and where it’s going is ABSURD. Josh literally plays the game to break it and be ABSURD and it is just hilarious and incredibly entertaining if you’ve played the game and understand how much of a pain nuclear is and how much work it is.

I wouldn't say they *seek* to perpetrate the stereotypes. Like, it's not on the checklist for game development... but yes, the Coal plants are cleaner than the nuclear ones in the game because they have no waste, and the ash coming out of the smoke stack is a particle effect, and there's no CO2 emissions being tracked. Mining coal is safer too in the game. Nuclear produces more electricity per plant and per unit of fuel, and I think eventually you can reprocess the nuclear waste into something useful for total sciencefiction technology. I'd have been happier if they called it unobtanium crystals instead of uranium. Is unobtanium green? Sure! Does the reaction that produces the heat to run the steam turbine produce a green sludge? Why not! Keep the game mechanics and the graphics.

In terms of the power you're producing coal is vastly inferior to nuclear, but combining the concepts of "ore node means effectively infinite supply of ore and is autominable almost immediately" (well before you have factory-type mining structures you can make small, carryable tripod-mounted machines to dig and store ore for you), "visible smoke isn't tracked and permanently accumulating in the atmosphere" and "water is also an endless resource with supply over time as the limiting factor rather than supply" makes coal not only cleaner than nuclear, it's more renewable than burning biological mass (because harvested plants intentionally never grow back). This is very deliberate in the game design; you are not generating power for the purpose of living here. In all probability, the eventual endgame will be that you've built and lifted into orbit the needed machinery to physically disassemble this entire planet for raw materials. Players are not supposed to be thinking of sustainability or their impact on the environment.

Small notice... the whole idea of this game is expansion and that the further you progress the more nature your destroying (either for resources or space) and nuclear power in this game is the most efficient power source.... (BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS) but unlike all other sources it is the only one where you have to directly deal with waste.... and at that point you only have 2 options.... either refine it into plutonium to send it of the planet or use those as fuel... the latter creates a OVERWHELMING amount of power but there is absolutely no (intended) way to get rid of it and seeing as it can only be used for power it will become a permanent burden... besides that there is no (free) anything in this game.... Environmentally friendly doesn't exist in any capacity.... So while the physics are dubious... For the sake of gameplay and so people eventually realise the sheer destruction they have caused that is why things are designed this way.... It is a game i would highly recommend to anyone to at least try out or look into for those exact reasons....
