You know the only time I’ve ever seen hippos even remotely scared of a crocodile was in some footage of Gustav the crocodile. An entire herd, pod whatever the actual term is, of adult hippos seemed to actively be avoiding getting near him now granted there were a few baby hippos in the video and the adults were clearly attempting to protect them but that says something about Gustave when the hippos decided to take up a more defensive role against a threat rather than an offensive one
@kidshaldeman2091
@kidshaldeman2091 Год назад
Gustave was so massive that he couldn’t hunt the fast-moving fish and land animals that crocodiles normally hunt, which forced him to seek out bigger and slower targets like hippos, buffalo, and even humans. Gustave is the only croc in existence that Hippos are rightly afraid of.

6:25, crocodiles and alligators do this to conserve heat. As mentioned, they are ectothermic so any warmth they get warmed up by something external, the less energy they have to burn to survive. It is the same logic behind people who are life-threateningly cold can be warmed up by body heat under a blanket in an emergency situation. Less surface area to warm = warm up quicker and more efficiently. Every calorie matters to ectothermic animals.

@@mvkfeb6 The first sentence is quite confusing, but reading through the article and a couple follow through links, I’m gathering officially, by taxonomy standards, true “big cats” are those in the genus Panthera which have the ability to roar (aside from the clouded leopard which has similar defining body structures to do this though it’s shorter so cannot actually roar and there’s been dispute over their classification due to this). The cheetah is not in this genus and cannot roar, and is therefore not a true “big cat.” I think that first sentenced is trying to acknowledge cheetahs and cougars are often still referred to as big cats though aren’t by official standards, but you have to read the rest the webpage to get that

The "Meow" of house cats is actually a relatively new mutation, which worked for them because, once their voices lowered a few octaves, it sounded rather like our children crying. Else, they'd chirp, too. Their balls dropped as a species, and now they sucker us into being frennz. I'm sure Toxoplasmosis is involved, too. And I don't actually mind.

Strange fact, when a horse is born, if the mother birth canal doesnt squeeze the newborn enough on the way out, the newborn wont be able to walk. The squeezing activates something in the brain unlocking the ability to walk, so it cant move too much, and avoid hurting the mother while still inside of her.
