About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

Thank you, I’m using my new oven for the first time today and you made this way clearer than the other videos.

@@Simplelittlelife I’m already loving it. I heat treated five knives today and it was worlds easier and less stressful than with the forge. 🤘🏻cheers

Great video. Very little info on programming these like you said. Best video yet. Where do you get your steel?

Hi Jeremy. Great videos, I'm just working my way through your videos and had noticed that in your shop tour video I see you don't have a Rockwell hardness tester.You must be very trusting with the heat treat specs the manufacturer supplied with your steel. Do you send out occasionally to have tested or do you just rely on manufacturers specs.Keep up the great work.Rob

Great video, thank you! How thick of 01 tool steel do you start off with to make a knife (first knife)? (Newbie here) A quick vid of the most basic things you need to start knife making. Thank you

Hey Jeremy do you have any issues with your door sealing when at temp?

So would you rather have gotten the 240V one?

Found it, it's called ATP-641 anti scale compound, only trick is you may need to build a filter in your quench drum as it often falls off at that point, what's left washes off in water.

Hi there, im looking at getting into O1 steel. i have a torch. i know the basics of getting steel hard but after reading on hudson tool steel, im really nervous. i guess its supposed to go up at no more than 400 per hour and then soak. so how can i do that with a torch lol. i was wondering if you had a quick tutorial on O1 torch treat im doing very small cutting tools so even temp is easy. after i make some sales there ill save for this oven :) thanks.

Hi Jeremy, Great video. I had a question. Where did you get that ceramic organizer for inside the kiln? Thanks, Doug

There's a boron compound that you can use, essentially you paint it on, it's rather thick, almost like a clay and that resist the heat and prevents the decarb, after heat treat you just scrub it off, I have seen a British guy called Jacklore use it, pretty sure if you asked him what it was he would tell you, he's pretty helpful to the knife making community, place I use is commercial and they use a vacuum furnace then use an inert gas, seems to do the trick.

Hey Jeremy, I know it's been a while you shot this video... I'm trying to convince myself I need an evenheat kiln, though it's around 3000bucks here in germany... That beeing said, I do a lot of research of other peoples experiences, especially with the ramp master 3 controller, because I found some people having trouble with it... So, my question is how satisfied are you after years of using this oven and controller setup? Thanx and best wishes from germany! Dom

For your 01 at what point do you place the knife in the kiln? Right at the beginning or wait until a certain temp before putting them in? Thanks!
@Simplelittlelife
@Simplelittlelife 7 лет назад
I usually wait until it's about 1450 or so. I set the timer to start once it reaches 1475, but by the time I open the door and get it in it cools down and takes several minutes to get back up to temp so I usually pop it in a little early. I leave it in for 10 mins once it's up to 1475. Cheers!

Hi, I'm about to buy an evenheat oven. Did you bought yours from knifemaker.ca? Tru grit ssems to have a great price but I'm afraid it would cost me a lot for shipping and brokerage...

Can you temper with this oven? or is it not accurate enough?

Yes you can. 👍

Nice, do you coat your blades with anything to reduce decarbonisation?
@Simplelittlelife
@Simplelittlelife 8 лет назад
No, I've thought about stainless foil, but a lot of people don't use that with O-1 tool steel. Having said that it's still one of those thing I plan on trying soon. If the SS foil wasn't so expensive I would be doing that with every blade.

it's cheaper in the US because Canadian dollars are worth more
@josephrector8735
@josephrector8735 8 лет назад
umm no its the opposite...the conversion rate is 1.30 Canadian Dollars = 1 USA dollar. if the Canadian money was worth more as you state it would take less then 1 Canadian Dollar to equel 1 us dollar. If I took 1 US dollar to Canada I would get 1.30 Canadian dollars.
