We all know the term “Hell on Earth,” but what about “Hell in Space”? That might be the most succinct way of describing the 1997 film, Event Horizon, directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and written by Philip Eisner. The film’s title is borrowed from an astrophysics term, and although there are various theories surrounding this term, it can best be summed up by someone such as myself who does not have an astrophysics degree as the idea that once a particle is inside the horizon, moving into the hole is inevitable-which leads us to the colloquial understanding of an “event horizon” as “a point of no return” and that is exactly where the characters of this film will find themselves.

This is one of my favorite movies. There is something about it that always brings me back. It’s a shame that we will never get a directors cut.

I almost cried when I heard what happened to the cuttings/originals of the film. This deserved a directors cut. Still one of my favourite films.

This movie has a wild backstory.The director hired porn actors for the hellish scenes with the crew, and it was graphic.The original cut was lost for years,but was found in a salt mine where movie studios keep film prints so that they wont deteriorate.Some of the found footage is here on RU-vid.

“Where we’re going, we won’t need eyes…” Oddly enough, in the novelization, it’s shown the ship really is evil and all the crew, even Weir, are its puppets. The ship then takes on the shape of Weir to taunt the captain, rather than Weir becoming evil himself in the movie. To think there was a more graphic version of the movie, which had scenes cut down for a better rating and then lost forever 😮

I LOVE this movie. It is one of my favorite horror movies. Also, in the category of "not that well know but great". As SILENT HILL and PANDORUM (that I consider it a spiritual succesor), A shame the movie didn´t end as the director wanted and that the extra footage got lost...but still incredible. When is the TV series is going to happen? They said it was going to happen ages ago.

A story I heard about one screening of this movie is that when Laurence Fishbourne said "We're leaving" everyone in the theater laughed. Because why wouldn't you leave after seeing that video? 😂

1:33 no, the... How to say it...? The uber physics in the Event Horizon ship could be taken as supernatural, as a haunted house in space while the Alien's sole murderer in a confined space makes rather a slasher.

I'm a massive sci-fi fan and although I've only recently got into horror in a bigger way some of my favourite movies have always had those strong horror elements. Despite an amazingly strong cast and having watched it several times, I never truly fell in love with it.

Like this movie, saw it in the cinema, shame the producers messed about with it before release. People have said its like a prequel to 40k with its cathedral type ship and ship jumping into hell.

I hate how people compare Event Horizon to Alien, it's like they haven't seen more than a handfull of films. EH has more to do with Solaris, and despite its flaws, the genius is in the blend.of several subgenres and genres: sci-fi; religious, cosmic and psychological horror. The premise alone is terrifying, but I don't think many still understand it: Religion might be a hoax, but what if hell could be scientificaly real?

Space _isn't_ Scary. Space is *beautiful* . The idea of space exploration is breath taking and can't come close enough, and I'm tired of everyone being fearful of really awesome stuff like the sea and space. It isn't, space or sea that scares you. It's what's in it. And what's in it is likely just as scared of you if not more so, knowing what a horrible creature Mankind is.

Poking a hole through paper to show how wormholes work is such a common trope that it's barely worth mentioning as an homage to this or any other work. Might as well credit A Wrinkle in Time and be done with it.

I would've been fine, can't show me one vision i gaf about, irdc and while i like the movie....this is again another example of tryna make sumn better than it is just bcuz it was panned when its came out, its a good movie, nothing more, nothing less, its not culturally influential, listen to the video....she's saying the same thing over and over and over, its a nice watch but it was never and isn't that movie
