Everclear seems like one of those bands that puts on a solid show, delivering exactly what you expect. The vocals are on par, just nothing more. This would go best with a calm late summer afternoon.
Humanity can be pretty fucking ugly sometimes but bands / music / musicians / songs / performances like this one absolutely restore my faith in the goodness of all of us.
Maybe it's because I grew up in Portland and saw their early days, from before World Of Noise, and seeing their actual debut of this song live, it's insane to think of any of this era as being "early" in their careers. Funny story about this song is that when it came out as their single, they got a lot of shit from other area bands. Most notably Sweaty Nipples, who were friends with them (When Sweaty Nipples played their final show, Everclear was the surprise opening band, using the name The Hesser Kings. maybe Hessier. Been 21 years ago now. And after Sweaty broke up, Davey Nipples joined Everclear. In the bands appearance playing One Hit Wonder on Letterman, he's to Art's left. Brian Lehfeldt, also from Sweaty, is in it as well, to Greg Eklund's (the drummer) right, basically playing cymbals and bells.) who would play the theme to The Brady Bunch and other theme songs, but using Santa Monica's music. The joke being that it's the most insanely simple song ever. Don't get me wrong, it works great and it's a song I love, but it's painfully simple. And I'm not bragging. Just adding info as a point of reference. This was all just coincidence because I happened to grow up in a certain place at a certain time and knew the right people.
hey greg , was this vid shot in montreal ? always be a big fan of your energic drumming style , it has inspired my drumming a lot in the 90's ....i would be playing sparkle and fade all day long on my old bad sounding drums ! cheers !
K Schlos Stfu about true music. I dont expect bands to sound like the album, And I prefer groups that diverge from that live. what Am saying is that Art can barely sing most of the time.
