I agree with you Nick and I would be amazed if the majority of Blues didn’t think the same. The statues are icons in their own right and they belong at the current home ground of the club. When we move to the new home ground, that will be the rightful place for all the tributes to be located.

Nick, great questions But if you get inside the ground all around the pitch there are small plagues who will people's names on who have passed away Years ago, people's ashes were buried under the pitch behind both goals and along the touch line I know that their ashes were removed to a garden area in St Lukes a few years ago when the pitch was relaid The plaques are still screwed to the wood that holds the pitch Next time you sit in either the park end or the lower glad go down to the wall and look at the gravel that leads up to the start of the pitch you can see the plaques These should be added to the Everton Way at the new stadium in memory of th9se who went before us I hope the club has thought about this

As an Evertonian personally I’ve always preferred/followed Celtic but let’s face it, they both give as good as they get. It’s really none of our business and not necessary to bring up in this video that has nothing to do with either of the old firm or what they choose to sing about. So leave the man alone plus he’s right, we are superstitious as football fans and things like the Goodison gates, statues etc..should go down to the docks.

@turboearl5398 thank you for that, much appreciated. The original reply was a cheap shot which I tend to ignore, but the 2nd response was pretty offensive, and while I don't like the behaviour of some of our fans at Ibrox and away grounds, this person's own club don't need to look far for their own demons - pot, kettle etc. He/she would do well to remind themselves of Nick's request to keep the replies courteous. I've really enjoyed watching the progress of your new stadium and much as I love the atmosphere of Goodison, I think you're gonna love your new home. All the best!

Dixie Dean, Tranmere legend until your lot poached him :D I agree with you Nick, they should go. Part of the reason for the statues is for fans to remember them and educate the younger fans about the history of the club. Who is gonna realistically see them at a site that no longer is a home to a football team? The footfall will be vastly reduced and therefore a bit of a waste.

Just to add I think Howard would have preferred to stay at Goodison given the choice. It would be interesting to hear Colin's thoughts on the matter. Dixie died a goal kick away from where his statue stands today. So to me it seems fitting he stays there. As others have said nothing stopping the club from having new statues or other artifacts of these great players. They may not be as big or as grand as the ones at Goodison but they'll have something at both locations.

I couldn’t agree more Nick . Personally I think it’s essential to bring these statues to the new stadium . The redevelopment which includes retaining the centre circle could have a plaque commemorating Goodison and all those supporters over the years who have passed . But the statues are iconic and would make Bramley Moore feel like home immediately . There is the argument that those footballers played at Goodison the counter to that is they played for Everton and were moving . You wouldn’t leave your granny if she lived with you and you moved home would you . Everton …. are you listening ?

It’s a difficult one an I see both sides.Part of me thinks they should stay as the memories for fans of Dixie and the holy trinity are at Goodison and when it’s no longer there,they will be the reference points of what was once there.The other part is when you move house,you take all your things with you.I’ve personally laid a wreath for my dad an my kids have laid a wreath for their grandad so it does have a sentimental and emotional meaning.I think if I had to choose,they would be moving with us.Plenty of space there at BMD for statues of other legends like Southall,Ratcliffe,Labone etc

First and foremost Nick, I'd like to congratulate you on a well-researched and evidence-based petition and I'm glad I was able to assist you in confirming the GP Legacy Plans. Whilst I get you wanted to make your point, you might also be exposed for 'balance' by not asking for more info about BMD. I am of two minds about it but I think they should remain. The case against, i.e. for moving them: 1) A football club is about soul and emotions and whilst that isn't necessarily wrapped up in an object (an icon in it's proper sense), if that object itself is part of a ritual for people going to the matches or outside of the match days, then there is a strong case for moving them so that the memory is retained as a stronger continuation of the soul and allows the fans to feel some form of continuity. 2) There IS space at BMD for statues, for sure. 3) On balance they may be better protected at BMD than at GP Legacy. 4) Alan Ball was the player that made me a Toffee as a very very young kid. I played his position and tried to be like him. My world came crashing down when he transferred to Arsenal but my loyalty remained with EFC. So, I have a particular interest in the Holy Trinity Statue. I'd hate to see them desecrated. The case for, i.e. leaving them and even enhancing them: 1) The Club have indeed made provision for remembering them all and indeed a spread of more recent players. The Everton Way will contain very large stones with captions and historical data of the key players in history. That will include many of the players that others I see here are promoting, with Big Nev seeming to be the most popular choice. There are a few people lashing out at the club, without this key feature being understood. It IS a major reason for the The Everton Way, which will actually be a really large, much more up-to-date representation of the soul and history of the club. 2) I think it's important that the GP development has a strong sense of what it was and the location of the statues is in itself also an historical fact. Residents of the area may want to retain it there as focus and soul for them and, who knows, they MIGHT actually husband them better than now. 3) There will be plenty of nods to GP in the development with the retention of the centre circle and the outlines of buildings representing the stands. The new tower blocks are individually facing 1) Anfield as the Older Ground, 2) The gates of GP and 3) BMD so there would be an argument for also retaining the statues as part of the overall memory retention of GP. 4) I always thought that the Holy Trinity being outside of St Luke's was as fitting a place as could be. 5) I think it's important that the club be aware of making new traditions and doing everything they can to create new memories, as they did when moving to GP from Anfield. It appears that my balanced view that they should remain is in the minority on this one, having read all the other comments so far. C'est la vie.
@tommymolloy5697
@tommymolloy5697 3 месяца назад
David, the arguments you make both for and against are compelling. I have a granite stone at Goodison in honour of my Granddad, thanking him for taking me to my first match at Goodison. I used to think the granites should come with us to BMD. On reflection I have come round to understanding that they should be left exactly where they are. Mine, and I'm sure many of the others, is about Goodison Park, of the memories of the place, our memories of our experiences as fans or those of loved ones. And that's where they belong. New memories will be created by new Blues at BMD. But I feel the statues are in a different category. There is no-one around now who has memories of Dixie playing for us. Dixie remains a past, present day and forever icon of the club and the statue of him is an emblem of what the club should aspire to rather than simply an historical link to a geographical location. There are still many of us who hold fond (to understate the case) memories of the Holy Trinity. But I feel that the same applies to that statue as to Dixie's. People gather around both statues on match days and have photos taken for good reason. And I'm sure most will want to continue to do so, eventually including Blues not yet born. I want to continue to touch Bally's boot before I go in. It's clearly proved not to be lucky! But it's part of the ritual of going the game. And I want visiting fans and anyone else coming to BMD to know "these lads played for us. Maybe not here, but in those same colours for this club. They represent our history. And our present and future aspirations." My new granite for BMD reads, "My heart and soul remains in The Gwladys Street End. But onwards Evertonians..." I'd like to think the statues of those great Evertonians come onwards with us.

@@tommymolloy5697 Tommy, thank you for your excellent, comprehensive reply. I genuinely enjoyed reading it. I can understand fully that it will be very important to many, many fans, as you, and your opinions very definitely indicate what I meant by the soul and emotions. Your passion is clear and you've emoted it very well indeed. I do indeed understand how the link to people's past family memories will be very strong and probably a dominant factor. I do not have that link as I was, literally, the first in my family to support a football team of any kind (yes, difficult to imagine, I know), so my opinion will be less-influenced by the points you make. But I get it. I do get also how it's almost like paying homage to that link. The analogy that many comments raise is that you'd take all your house contents with you but I'd say the analogy is more like wanting to take all your garden contents with you or even going to where your family is buried, digging them up and moving them. (For the record I visit my family's grave about twice a year, as it is about 4 hrs away). This topic is very subjective and I accept your opinion and reasons fully. I guess it boils down to the balance of looking forwards or looking back and I tend to the former rather than the latter. If there genuinely was a petition, I wouldn't be arguing against the majority opinion displayed on this video commentary, as it would be important for the club to take on board the majority fans' opinions. As my initial comments made, I'd merely want people to be fully aware of 'all the facts'. I think we'd enjoy a chat over a pint and I wish you well.

Dixie Dean and the Holy Trinity will have never played at BMD so to have them outside a Stadium where they have never played, whilst not wrong, maybe would not be right. Our history is our history but the Ghosts of our past maybe best left to haunt the area in which they played and are familiar. Just an alternative thought. Either way they will live forever in our hearts.

Should the statues move is a great question and debate. I’m torn between the fact they are undoubtedly everton legends and should never be forgotten, so they move to be remembered. But they were legends playing at the old lady, not BMD, therefore should their feats and achievements be remembered at the site they were witnessed? I think they should remain in the new park as a legacy and new statues be commissioned at BMD.

But torn on it. But if they are left behind I can't help but worry they would fall into disrepair and be more targetable for vandals . Hope they move with us.

Statues are rightfully staying in place, as shown in the Goodison legacy plans, daft thinking removing them and erasing abit of our past. New & replica statues will be placed at BMD soon enough😂 its not a case of only having them in one spot, they can be in both

Kendal Harvey and ball, only played for Everton for four seasons, wining one trophy together, league 69-70. When you say are best ever players, where are big Dunk. Peter Reed.Sharpie. Southall.Sheedy.Inchie.Latchford. Royal. to name but a few ?

Got room for canal at the back of the West Stand, but not a statue of Everton's greatest player?

Everton never fail to disappoint and do the wrong thing. Ever. How many people walk past Dixie's statue going into the ground and touch it for luck? I've even seen people ask Dixie for luck. This is so sad and yet another example of how Everton don't give a toss about their supporters

1 million percent they should all be relocated at the new stadium. I'm a red but i believe the statues are an integral part of the club. If the club moves, the statues move as well. End of!!!!

Could we get LFC to move somewhere else as well that would be great...the traffic is horrible and it's not given any residence any benefits other than a headache.

That's a very odd decision. You blues should get on that and don't lose your historic statues. Moving them will create a connection between the old and new.

Seems a no brainer to me. Why not place them outside the new stadium?

The club can just commission new ones for the new ground, and keep the originals in place

If the status remain at Goodison Park they will be vandalised. Everything should be moved to Bramley Moor and plagues in buildings and in the paths should be placed in the new Goodison Park development along with a new structure to honour the club

Agree, the statues should go, if they don’t it’s just another stupid/misguided decision by Everton.

I hope that they move to your new home with you, they are part of your proud history and BMD is the start of your next piece of history. Best wishes. Graeme from Portsmouth. Play Up Pompey.

They'll get smashed up by arseholes. The statues should move as well. As for the development of Goodison Park, It'll end up as a giant Asda or similar. The plans for housing, parks, schools, medical centre etc. Won't happen.

More poor backwards decisions by our club yet again if this is true. They should be coming with us. When you move house you don't leave your valuable belongings behind do you??

We can just have new ones commissioned, guaranteed the club will do so regardless, not a case of only being able to have them in one place😂
