I take a look at the 8 Daredevil Omnibus by Stan Lee, Frank Miller, Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, and Mark Waid. I also cover the Elektra Omnibus as well.
That Miller companion is “Born Again” the best Daredevil story ever and probably Millers Second best story ever to many people. Not to me though as I believe it’s his best
@@melancholiclonging8641 Frank Miller's run, Guardian Devil by Kevin Smith, Brian Michael Bendis run, Ed Brubaker run, Mark Waid run and Chip Zdarsky's run then you're good to go
I’m Too Indecisive To Pick A Name read frank millers trade “man without fear” then read the three trades of his run or the Omni. Then born again followed by Guardian devil then the Bendis run and that goes right into the Brubaker run. If you want you can read the Charles Soule run ending in Shadowland which is an event by a couple people but to be honest it’s not that good I would skip it and go right into the Waid run. The current daredevil run by Zdarsky is great as well
@@DekeRadio I got the first issue of dd, was one of my favorites. When Frank Miller started doing odd, I stopped buying comics. Never did I buy comics again , no way I would tolerate that. I hated every Frank Miller movie too.
Born Again actually isn't in the Companion Omnibus, at least not in the second printing. He reads it out here and I'm also looking at my copy now, that's the ONLY thing missing from it, sadly. But it is required for sure. Great story.
daredevil has more good story lines than anyone one i can think of. bendis had a great run on daredevil. i needto get the brubaker and lark run. lark is really good.
It’s cool to get on RU-vid and see the video you requested. I’m jealous of the Bendis omnis, it’s my favorite marvel run. I have it in ultimate collection paperback.
Thanks a lot for this, it was very informative. Daredevil is clearly the most complex and fascinating superhero next to Batman, although I've become increasingly interested in Green Arrow too because of the island stuff and his subsequent transformation from boy to man.
Love your videos, huge fan of all that you do... keep up the excellent work! Your work also eliminates the trepidation & fear of narrowing my purchases. So thankyou for that.
Someone did more than not break in the binding on that Miller omnibus. That thing was abused. I'll never understand how someone could do that to a $100+ book.
I bought the very same Miller DD Omnibus on Ebay recently. There appears to be an issue with the binding on this one. Mine is in pretty good condition however the 'eye' seperation from the spine isn't as flexible so doesn't really appear. I have stretched that spine. It's the first thing I do when I get Omnis (thanks for the tip Gem Mint 😊). Plus this Omnibus is quite wide compared to later ones (same as the John Byrne FF vol. 1). I think the paper stock is thicker. I remember seeing a later print of this DD Miller Omnibus (with the red/black spine) a while ago and it wasn't as thick.
I was so excited to watch this video, Daredevil is easily one of my favourite characters. I’ve been rereading from 2011 to now, I finished Mark Waid’s and am now on Charles Soule’s run. Fell behind on the recent run and I thought I would just reread from Waid to now lol. I also just recently picked up the $300 dollar Miller slipcase Daredevil set. I’ve been loving your videos and I’m going to keep watching till I catch up to your new videos. Keep doing what you’re doing your videos are awesome 😄
Daredevil was my favorite comic, I started reading with the first issue, which I still have. When Frank Miller started, I stopped buying it. Hated that worst ever, never bought another comic book since that.
Man, those omnibuses are teasing. Daredevil is my favorite Marvel superhero and now I have a good reference for my next purchases. Thank you for your videos, they are extremely useful. Are those the only Darevil omnibuses published so far?
The only one I have is the Miller/Janson book and so far it has been freaking phenomenal. I've only read the stuff from the 90s, so seeing what really evolved DD for when I read him has been amazing. I want to pick up the silver age Omni at some point, but I want them to release the next volume first. I also wish they would collect the material after Miller's tenure through the Fall of the Kingpin. BTW, how come your cover is completely different from the one I have? Mine doesn't even show the issues on the back of the dust jacket. Anyway, I hate when they do that crap of skipping issues in the Bendis book. Like keep the damn things in order.
Agreed mate, Frank Miller's DD is absolutely fantastic and I'd go as far as saying that I prefer it to Frank Miller's Batman run. When I was back in UK this summer I picked up paper trades of Bendis and Brubaker's runs, Kevin Smith's Guardian Devil. I have also got some waiting for me in UK too for when I head back in the summer (Redemption, and Loves Labour Lost). Ploughing through Bendis, I absolutely loved part 1, but 2 and 3 I almost got bored of... maybe I need to go back and reread. Brubaker's run however was fantastic and I thought captured the Miller style that I think is the pinnacle of Daredevil. I have yet to read Waid's run. I have his Vol 1 Omnibus, but will read that once I have Omnibus 2, which comes out in March. Loving your channel mate, keep it coming.
As soon as I watched this video, I really wanted pick up those two volumes of Bendis run on Daredevil. Then, I tried finding them online. Wow! Those have to be Whales, if you want them new. ISBN 0785131124 vol. 1 ISBN 0785138137 vol. 2 Other than that, great vids. I'm on a Gem Mint Binge. First one was your Spawn Deluxe Edition vid, had to know what you thought about that Story, Character, Artist, and your personal experiences from that Title.
Agree 100% with you on that horrendous artwork in the Elektra Omnibus! It definitely takes away interest from the story, which isn't that bad, but that art is downright hideous! Elektra is supposed to be a deadly but sexy assassin. That is not what was drawn in those pages.
I always look for your videos Gem, when I am about to buy something new and I should probably watch this one before Waid's DD. I am selling it today, first two HC books 10,12 issues, it's just... boring. After Zdarsky, this is just ok. Silver-age I am about to reed and Millers were excellent as well, but this one, I didn't know it will present that Punisher, but still, I didn't like it (and DD is my favorite) and it flies in 30 min. Thanks for good material and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Here’s an idea for a new segment: “Gem Mint for the Rescue”; to support desperate souls like mine to get Bendis run vols 1 & 2. Those are not whales anymore, man, they are dinosaurs 😉 anyways, cool review 🤘
I just recently bought the diamond select Daredevil figurine. He's pretty cool but it's plastic which is what it is ya know. thx for review I'm a DD fan.
If you could only get one run, would you recommend Bendis run or Miller's and why? I'm a fan of all art, so the story would be difference to me, but I haven't read either. Or is there another run, that's better?
So I recently discovered comics and I'm currently reading the New Avengers Omnibus (great stuff). I follow your little ritual of stretching the spine each time I start reading some issues. I'm using a book stand as well. Turns out the omnibus still ended up beat up similar to your Frank Millar Omnibus. Do you have any advice what I can do to prevent it in the future?
I have the end of the Bendis run and the start of the Brubaker one, any way I can collect the rest without buying the omnis? Complete Collection, Trades? I saw that they will start prinitng a Modern Epic but I'm not sure it will bring in all the issues I have missing.
Gem Mint, thanks for your videos. Is that DD Omnibus repairable? I saw a couple of RU-vid videos about repairing omnibus spines (the Miles Morales Ultimate Spiderman Omni had such spine damage issues). I wonder if that method might work on your DD Miller omni? Cheers from Sydney Australia mate.
That Frank Miller Daredevil omnibus looks like it's about to fall apart. Ever thought of having that thing replaced? I enjoyed the Daredevil Frank Miller companion. Yeah, the Spider-Man issues weren't that good and then they ended on a stupid cliffhanger, and issue 219 was just weird and I don't know what it had to do with anything. But the Born Again and Man without Fear stories were really good, and the Love and War graphic novel was a fun read, too and helps to resolve that Vanessa stuff that Frank Miller had up until that point not done anything with. I'm on the Elektra omnibus now, so I'm hoping I'll like it more than you did, but guess we'll have to wait and see.
That's cool. Was just curious. And yeah, I read the Elektra Omnibus today, and yeah, it's definitely NOT Frank Miller's best work and it almost seems like he was on drugs when he wrote the thing. Elektra barely even gets much attention, or at least not as much as she probably should, and the thing might've been better had it not been about Elektra, but some other female ninja assassin. I enjoyed parts of it in the middle, the ending was complete bullshit, and the beginning, I don't know why they needed to have a disjointed recap of Elektra's origin. Huge step-down from his Daredevil stuff.
I agree with Tommy Bagley about the Miller companion Omnibus and Born Again being required reading but also The Man Without Fear mini (1-5) as it is part of the basis for the Netflix series and is similar to Batman: Year One as it is a redefining/clarification of DD's early days. Peter Paker, The Spectacular Spider-Man 27/28 is Miller's 1st work on DD, DD 219 is a great Matt Murdock story DD 226-233 is the Born Again saga wich sees Matt destroyed by his ex-gf Karen Page giving the Kingpin his real identity and as far as the art in Love and War - I personally think that Bill Sienkiewicz ("sinKEVitch") art fits the tone of the story, the same with the Elektra omni it's not supposed to be a sexy story but a serious one.
I'm afraid it seems you don't actually know much about comics. Or appreciation of great story and art. Born Again is as good as comics gets and the bill sienkiewicz art is tremendous and ground-breaking.
It's funny(to me) the Bendis/Maleev run is so hyped. It's the run that killed Daredevil for me. I got back into it with Lady Bullseye. Still have a lot to catch up in in between. (Side note) Kinda disgusted with Marvel for the numorous relauches then original numbering phase they went thru when Kevin Smith signed on(he killed Karen)
The elektra Sega was great but all the other work in that omnibus as far as that water color like art/story is horrible and to off beat,I agree with you 100%
Im really not a fan of Frank Miller's art. I enjoyed his Dark Knight Returns storyline, but the art for me just didn't cut it. I really love the more modern styles, my favorite so far is Ethan Von Schiver. Miller's style is just bleh to me. If his art was used for the Daredevil and Elektra omnis I can absolutely understand why it may he difficult to get through. How is the writing though for these DD stories? He seems to either knock it out of the park (Dark Knight Returns) or strike out (All Star Batman). I haven't read any Daredevil and really wanting to dive in.
Yoo hahaha the best part of the video is when you lose the bookmark and then don’t give a shit!! 😂 did you ever get a new miller Omni to replace the shitty one Gem??
I got the original f%#k Miller comics, I can't sell these, there's no market for it. I'll just sit. Me and f$%k Miller were about the same age, he died years ago, I'm still athletic and still making the women scream. F Miller was a deckless man.
