​@MaxNeck honestly, bojack's style is pretty unique compared to the generic style. it has a pretty good usage of water colors, specific anatomy, with intentional and/or subtle design choices for a large portion of characters. really the only thing that's similar is that it uses rigged animation and vibrant colors.

Then why are they so painfully unfunny? I'm tired of South Park, Family Guy, Rick and Morty. Hell, one good adult animated show, Inside Job, was the HEALTHY version of Rick and Morty. Because it shows that if you have someone like Rick in your family, they care only for themself. And the main characters actually learned and grew. And even began to wonder if they were doing the right thing. But it was cancelled so that Big Mouth could get another season.

The Simpsons started out its own thing before it deteriorated, but I still like Futurama more, and fortunately, it fizzled before it could go off chasing Family Guy, too. KotH started out extremely well, but later seasons lost continuity and became more shallow.

I'm 26 and actually get a heck of a lot of enjoyment out of stuff aimed more at kids. How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, The Penguins of Madagascar, The Looney Tunes Show, Shaun the Sheep, Wallace and Gromit, The Clone Wars, Sonic Boom...all good stuff.

Gravity falls, adventure time, chowder.... I miss them :(

The shows that are made for younger audiences are made with parents watching in mind, and the good ones know that kids appreciate quality writing and art as much as anyone. Adult shows are these soulless crass cesspits for two main reasons. 1: Half-assedly copying the formula of older adult shows. 2: The biggest way to be set apart as an adult show is to swear a lot and be explicit, since adult situations like not being able to pay rent or marriage troubles can air on all-ages shows, and animation is presumed by default to be for kids.

And they always add some edgy or flatulance joke at the end.

It's descended into utilizing generic shock/random humor and just because there is self awareness doesn't make it funny.

And the deep monologue is just very surface level existentialism ending with a reference to suicide to catch the audience off guard

Like I think things like Adventure Time are made with a large age range in mind, including adults but you wouldn't call it an adult cartoon (based on my small knowledge and viewing of the show). @@robertwoods3871 weed; I doubt he's much more adventurous than that on weeknights. the joke kinda reads if you do it charitably; it's part of the "fun for the whole family" angle, like when they reference ads from the 50s for no goddamn reason. it also plays into the kind of hokey variety show framing that the theme song sequence invokes, but nobody ever makes that connection because outside of the Stewie and Brian musical episodes, the show doesn't deliver on that premise at all. it's not actually that smart, though; I recall an interview with Seth where he says the joke is that he trolls Fox by wasting high-value primetime slots on a dumb shitty joke that could instead be sold as ad time, but isn't. the comedic genius of "it's funny because it's bad on purpose, also fuck management."

It's kinda ironic that teenager characters from children cartoons act more mature and smarter than the adult characters from adult cartoons who have a family but act like a toddler

@@SoleaGalilei I think it's the opposite with Live Action sitcoms. In the early days half of them weren't very funny, so they had to use a laugh track every 5 seconds just for people to laugh. Nowadays the laugh track is pretty absolete and most live action sitcoms are made and/or star comedians and are writing actual jokes. The fact that animated sitcoms, even when they star actually funny comedians, aren't funny and just edginess every 5 seconds is embarrassing.
