Pokemon Etymology is fascinating! How did Game Freak come up with all the Pokemon names in Pokemon Sword and shield? Like, what does Eternatus mean? What does Intelleon mean? What does Phalinks mean? What does Indeedee mean? What does Hatterene mean? what does Morgrem mean? What does Copperajah mean? What does Stonjourner mean? What does Cinderace mean? what does Scorbunny mean? What does Sobble mean? What does Grookey mean? .... y'know, I'll continue this later, here are the links to things:

Alright, so, what does Impidimp mean? What does Toxtricity mean? What does Sandaconda mean? What does Alcremie mean? What does Milcery mean? What does Pincurchin mean? What does Skwovet mean? What does Nikit mean? What does Twakey mean?what does Drizzlile mean? What does Theivul mean? What does Cursola mean? What does Obstagoon mean? What does Toxel mean? What does Applin mean? What does Flapple mean? What does Appltun mean? What does Yamper mean? What does Cloggopus mean? What does Snom mean? What does Hattrem mean? What does Runerigus mean? What does Orbeetle mean? Really, just what do the new gen 8 Pokemon names mean? This video hopes to answer those questions, along with a few more deeper looking into some of their origins. Like: Morgrem Origins, Indeedee Origins, Applin Origins, Eternatus Origins, Appltun Origins, Orbeetle Origins, Dragapult Origins, Zamazenta Origins, Zacian Origins, and I think that's it actually.

The "snarl" part of Grimmsnarl's name probably references the term in relation to hair or fur, where a snarl basically means a knot or tangled mass of hair, moreso than the more common use of the word that refers to a growl. Or perhaps both meanings went into it, since it's a big growling beast but also covered in hair.

I bet there’s a connection between Hatterene and Grimmsnarl. Hatterene being a fairy witch is very much related to Morgan le Fay. This goes further in that her G-Max form is referred to as a goddess. Morgan is sometimes depicted as a goddess as well. Grimmsnarl and his line may be then based of the Green Knight from the poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Morgrem’s bow, it turning green, and evolving into something completely green all references this poem.

One more possible layer to Cufant that explains why this is in Galar: the London pub (and Underground station) Elephant & Castle is believed by some to be a corruption of L’Enfant de Castille, the Infant of Castille, thus bringing the elephant and infant references together in a uniquely British obsessed-with-mispronouncing-foreign-words way.

Fun fact about Sirfetch'd: I see a lot of people making jokes about female Sirfetch'ds. "Sir" is traditionally not gender-related. Only through a lot of misunderstanding and mistranslation did it become that way. Originally, you'd call for a knight by saying "Ser!", which meant "Come here!". Since most knights were usually men, the word evolved to refer primarily to men over a long enough time, even know it's technically gender-neutral. I mean, hell, even in the military, we use "Sir" to refer to both men and women.
