As a member and representative of the white community from Texas, we do not claim such vile opinions shown by the creator of this video, red beans and rice is top tier, so are the mashed potatoes, slaw is garbage
LOL, the rice and beans happens to be one of my favorite sides. Sure, they're nothing special, but they're tasty. The tenders are easily my favorite chicken item, and the biscuits are one of a kind.
The number one side I always get, every single time I eat at Popeye's, is the "worst thing" on your list. I get the Red Beans and Rice, add a packet or two of their hot sauce, and enjoy some good eating. The shrimp is bland, and the dipping sauces don't really help. And while the chicken sandwich is way better than that other company's, it's just ok as a sandwich. Good thing the chicken is kickin.
Mashed really messed this one up!! Red beans and rice at popeyes is awesome!! What I do is take some excess crispy chicken skin and put it in the red beans and rice. You get a texture difference with the taste. Thank me later haha
I work at Popeyes and the red beans and rice is literally the best side dish. Preservatives? Not sure how other franchisees make it, but doing prep at my store, it really does not look that horrible. The beans come in whole and uncooked. As well as the rice. It is sometimes the most ordered, second only to fries (people get lazy and pick fries). It is also literally the only side dish I eat along with the corn on the cob. The kraft dinner mac and cheese is meh. The freeze dried rehydrated mashed potato is meh. The fries and onion rings quality depends on how fresh its served to you. Hence, your best bet is the trusty ole' red beans and rice.
I use to work at Popeyes. The Cajun Rice is DEFINITELY delicious even alone. The Popcorn Shrimp was a permanent menu item. And last but not least, the best chicken sandwich I have ever had was indeed from Popeyes but not the one they serve today, it was the Chicken Deluxe Sandwich that was incredible! Sad that it disappeared forever...
I was lucky enough to score one of the original sandwiches at product launch and DEFINITELY remember it as a larger filet of meat than the 2d go-around. That said, it was delicious BOTH times, and worth the wait while they ramped up production. Red beans & rice, please, as the side. Why y'all don't love them I don't know....
Wow amazing you are clueless the best thing ever had at Popeye's is the red beans and rice never had the dirty rice but I'm going to try it now while you have no clue
Red beans and rice is in last place? WTF. That's the best side they have. If you've never taken the dirty rice and mixed it together with some red beans, you need to try it and thank me later. I do agree though that their gravy is the best.
i used to live in a remote area in a villa, with a gas station near it, that gas station had popeye's in it, each time i go to fill the tank, that cajun fries smell would hypnotise me and make me go in to buy some, all their menu items are great , it is also the only franchise that sells biscuits instead of buns....love that place...their chicken is really so much better than kfc and churche's (the blandest chicken ever)
I pretty much agree with this list as an employee however you are missing a few items from our menu that you didn't list here. 1. Mac and Cheese 2. Our chocolate cake (mudpie) 3. Pecan pie 4. Cajun Fish 5. Corn (Well its just corn lol) And theres a secret item only employees can get but idk if I can openly talk about it
Going in to this video, I projected my favorite side to be way up on the rankings.... Imagine my surprise when the Red Beans and Rice was dead last. lol Well, I love their Red Beans and Rice. I mean LOVE LOVE, I always buy extra to take home.
I'm from the northern edge of Cajun country in Louisiana and really enjoy the red beans and rice. Yes, homemade is better, but this fast-food item doesn't fall very far behind.
I love the red beans and rice. The boneless wings they've turned into nuggets now they have the best chicken nuggets out there. The problem is blackened ranch sauce and the Mardi gras mustard are amazing but they charge 50 cents a pack for blackened ranch and a dollar a pack for Mardi gras mustard who the hell charges that much for sauces. $0.50 for a little pack of sauce $1 for a little pack of sauce. They have to be out of their minds they've lost me as a customer out of sheer greed
Those of you saying that the chicken sandwich is overrated, well, as u know all chicken sandwiches are not as good and earth shattering as beef sandwiches but to say that Popeyes chicken sandwich is the best out of all its competitors, it is true.
S tier: Spicy chicken and tenders, cajun fries, red beans and rice A tier: Mild chicken and tenders, jambalaya, apple pie, mac and cheese B tier: Mashed potatoes, Cajun rice C tier: biscuits D tier: Coleslaw, green beans
I don’t think this is right AT ALL! The red beans and rice, and mashed potatoes with gravy, are worse than things like coleslaw and green beans?! And the biscuits at 10, just, no! Higher!
As good as all this is, let me caution you about the Popeye's Buffet. I spent several years in management at the store level with Popeyes and can speak with authority on this. On the floor behind the front counter sits a bus pan. Into that bus pan is tossed all chicken that is expired (at those stores where they follow the expiration times) or is returned by customers for one reason or another. These chicken pieces sit there until closing time when they are counted and logged in as waste. Then they are placed in the walk-in cooler where they sit overnight. The next day the morning prep crew cut up this chicken and use it in preparing a number of the buffet dishes. Think about it. Some of this chicken sat in a bus pan on the floor from opening until closing time the previous day, gathering whatever germs could grow on room temperature chicken in that amount of time and is now being put on the buffet table to be served to customers. My advice - never eat prepared items from a Popeye's buffet.
Apparently Mashed can’t be trusted to rate food. I was raised in NOLA and I know the red beans are good for fast food. If I want authentic red beans I’ll fix them or go by my Mom n ems. On Monday of course.
That chicken sandwiches the best chicken sandwich you can get anywhere by far I would eat them everyday and by the way red beans and rice as a staple for Popeyes fans downgrading red beans and rice is like saying something bad about Rick and Morty people usually come to the defense very fast
I love the chicken and the sandwich, though I get them mild because I just can't eat spicy. I actually like the red beans & rice, even it it isn't authentic, because it is unique. You're right about the cole slaw: KFC and Long John Silver's have the best fast-food cole slaw.
My order 5pc spicy tenders Fries Small mashed potatoes To extra biscuits This way I can have lunch the next day too! I take two biscuits, chicken, and honey sauce and make a sandwich.
I live in a small village on Hawaii island after a lava episode in 2018 a new strip mall opened which advertised at their "grand" opening (and still shows on their signage) a Popeyes. It's 2022 and still no Popeye's. I'm not losing sleep but after watching this vid I wish they would get their act together lol
Once upon a time, Coca-cola was so big that coke was similar to google it. Google now is worried about being labeled a monopoly. I am the guy that when I mention I am hungry for chicken everybody around me knows I want Popeyes. I struggle with the sides because I love their sides. They are better than most fast-food franchises and I usually buy just two sides. Thanksgiving isn't special unless I have Popeyes gravy. The question is who is the best Rock and Roll band in history. We cannot agree on that either lol.
No rating on the onion rings? Also, its the horseradish that makes the cole slaw have that zing. When the cajun rice is made, its all in how well you mix it up. Not mixed well will taste bland. Red rice seasoning is added to the rice for the red beans and rice.
Probably need to do an episode on the international locations. Of course adding the curds/cheese to the Cajun fries and gravy makes for a damn fine poutine which is on the Canadian menu. Replace the slaw with poutine and it's been done justice.
Blackened tenders are the best item on their menu, the downside is that you have to wait because they're never already made buy that's a pro in itself because you always get fresh food.
Their red beans and rice has awesome flavor. Stop trying to snobishly compare their ingredients to expensive restaurant food. They use cheap ingredients but flavor them very well and make them delicious. They are trying to make fast food Affordable remember?!
My go-to order from Popeyes is an 8 piece tenders meal, half mild half spicy, with red beans and rice (minus the rice [biscuit topping purposes]) and an extra large green beans, along with a good fistful of the Cajun Sparkle packets. I do enjoy the Blackened Tenders, but they TINY, yo. They're like oversized nuggets. Not even remotely worth the price.
The only fast food mashed potatoes that are better than Popeye's are at Boston Market, because they make them with fresh potatoes, not using some instant potato mix like KFC, Church's, and Popeye's use.
Wow...Your number 16, 15, and 14 top worst are my faves. Throw in one or two of the jalapenos from the jar...who needs the chicken? I would love to know who their jalapeno supplier is....You can't find them in the supermarket unless they have that awful 'escabe' (oil, carrots, and onions) mixed in them. Oh...and most of us know that the intense flavors are magnified by the amount of MSG in Popeye's food (often disguised as torula yeast, yeast extract and other names)
Completely agree on the mashed potatoes - I'll take a quart of gravy anytime, but the processed potatoes are at best mediocre. Completely DISagree about the red beans and rice - I'll take that anytime, preferably large! Also a fan of the jambalaya, but it's not available at all store or even at all times.
