Regarding the number of humans. There around a milion worlds (star systems) in the imperium. So conscripting just a few milion of each world gives you milions. And many worlds are overpopulated cyberpunk megacity dystopias like Chicago but covering the whole planet. Thats also why the emperor and astronomicon are so important, you need the space travel so the might of the whole imperium can be transported to the right place
Keep in mind, according to 40k lore, the Emperor is alive in the current time frame... he might be the barista at a coffee shop, a corporate CEO, or a freedom fighter in Ukraine. We don't know... but he is here.

16:40 ... the answer to that question is the "Imperial Tax"... while there is a tax on services and growth, the more well-known tax is the actual Imperial Tax... in that worlds controlled by the Imperium must set aside a certain number of people to be used as Imperial Guard... with a few hundred thousand planets, that tax can get huge fast and governors can get out of monetary debt by sending more people. The more prominent the military in an area, like Cadia, Krieg, Mordia or Armageddon.. that tax could be MUCH higher and involve growing babies in tubes to get them trained for the front. Many of the planets are called Warworlds and tend to have cultures entirely dedicated to their own image of the Imperial Guard.

@@ComfyFitness1 the Imperial Bureaucracy (known as the Administratum) is massive and has people living and dying as scribes, with it sometimes taking centuries for reports to get processed through the system.
So for other people,if you can separate the now imperium in two there will be the side that believe in the emperor as a god and the others who believe in the emperor as a human (like almost all the astartes do) Pd:So let me put this in a better way, salamanders are not "human black" they are literally "color black"

Isn’t fun that the religion that the emperor is a god is based off the writings of Lorgar who essentially started the heresy because the Emperor told him he isn’t a god and to stop worshipping him. Love this thing where the Word Bearers see the Black Templar who are religious zealots far more brutal than they were and find the irony that they were punished while these guys are openly welcomed. Maybe it is just that the Word Bearers spent too much time making temples while the Black Templars don’t stop tearing and burning everything they see.

Not necesary Kit, there ara Abhumans (also called subhumans sadly) that serves under the Aquila. Like the Ratlings that are small humans like hobbits for sabotage and scouting, Felinids that are feline agaile with great sight humans, Ogryns that are literally Orks but humans, bull humans, goat humans, wolf humans, etc, etc. Mutants and aliens are deemed the enemy, Mutants cuz they are an abomination (2 heads, 6 limbs, etc) and Aliens (all the other races). PS: there is freedom of religion but just indoors, your god is the Emperor but you can pray to others, indoors. PSS: there are so many humans just because they have millions upon millions of worlds. The Kriegers have cloning vats but just them ( the Ad. Mech. Give that tech to them) because they have so much combat knowledge that is realy bad laying them to die one by one. PSSS: The Emperor is important (in the state that he is now) because he is the only thing/being that makes interestellar travel posible, he creates the Astronomicon wich is a north star to go from point A to point B, with out this, you would be lost in the Warp (because interestellar travel works by passing thru hell and without this you would be dead).
