a comprehensive look at all equipable melee weapons present in the first Dishonored game. Hopefully the start of a series of videos covering all weapons, gadgets and powers
With the amount of swords possible to pick up it's kinda makes me wonder if there were plans for player to be able to choose which one they want to choose based on their statistics.
From what fans gathered, Diahonored was supposed to have a more open-ended gameplay with you being able to replay completed levels with the Hound Pits Pub being the hub world and given that every sword can technically be wielded, you were supposed to be able to choose your loadout. Guess they made it linear due to time constraints or to avoid being called "Thief/BioShock clone".
@@thientuongnguyen2564"Guess they made it linear due to time constrains or to avoid being called a "Thief/Bioshock clone" Can't speak for Bioshock, but the Thief series has always been linear and Piero's Workshop/Griff's Curios are reminiscent of T1 and T2's pre-mission loadout shop. I'd even go on to say that D2 and DotO's black market shops are directly inspired by Deadly Shadows's black market shops in its own hub area down to the hand prints. Also, regarding swords, Garrett is stuck with his own sword (or dagger in the third game) and blackjack. Those aren't swappable nor do you lose them in any capacity during gameplay. No, I think the reason for being able to pick up any sword type is because the level design had always been planned to be open-ended where you can go against certain objectives (like grabbing the officer's sword in the first mission or retrieving your gear in The Flooded District). Also, it's probably tied to creating the in game assets and how they behaved during gameplay, but that's purely speculation.
@@zombieclone98 That's awesome. I've for years wanted to see someone showcase all the gear in the game and how the upgrades effect them aesthetically and practically, can't wait
@@zombieclone98it wouldn't be a stretch, really. Corvo is regarded as one of the most skilled swordsmen, if not the most skilled swordsman, the Empire has seen. It wouldn't be a stretch to say he's powerful enough to drive the blunt edge of a cleaver straight into a man like hot knife through butter because he's just that good. But likely it's just that Arkane didn't want to give a different animation for what is essentially the same weapon type in-game. They probably had enough on their hands with unique animations for each key target alone.
I think if you do a glitch at the beginning of the game and skip the swored in the first misson, and play without the swored until misson 7, you could get the tourchers weird sword. Amma test it out soon and i will edit this comment if my theory is right or wrong. ( edit:i reached misson 7 without a swored and killed the torturer, i can pick up his weapon but unfortunately i cant have it equipt 😢😢)
Late as he'll, but the algorithm graced me upon your videos and channel tonight. Anyway, I'd uess Corvo's sword was meant to fold like a butterfly knife or similar, but then it was decided that the final iteration we see was easier to animate, and that the name "folding blade" was a carried over.
