You know, as a kid I used to be really into AusHun because I just kind of took everything at face value, so Hungary constantly going "Mr. Austria" and fawning over him made me shrug my shoulders and be like, "yeah, why not, it works." After I've done some maturing, though, I've really come to like pairing her with Prussia. Hungary's interest in Austria feels like a surface level infatuation to me - the guy you think you like as a result of circumstance, because he's new and elegant and charming, has prince-like qualities, treats you like a lady, etc. Prussia never acted like that towards Hungary, he never will, but since they were children they've been supporting each other as friends and comrades. They have this trust that forgoes surface level features. Neither of them may realize it, but I feel like at the end of the day, Hungary could trust Prussia with her life or something equally as important, while Austria... Austria always acts in such a "muted" way towards her. I can see them as friends, really good friends, but not lovers. Also, the realization that Hungary is actually a woman (both to herself and Prussia) doesn't change the way they feel about each other. They still bicker and fight, and they also keep that deep bond between themselves. Prussia places her needs before his own, e.g. trying to have his fun with her before ultimately giving her his "crotch cloth," and she opens up to him about an issue that's important to her: her identity, how she feels about herself. She rarely reveals these personal experiences with Austria, and I believe that's because all she has with him is an attraction, not actual love. In fact, it's the opposite - she changes herself in order to suit his interests more (regardless of whether or not he asks her to), trying to shape her personality and image just to appear likeable to him. I don't think that's romantic, it's just something people do to impress others, which doesn't make either party a "bad person," but I think it goes to show that the relationship wouldn't work out in the end, not if it's built on at least partially fabricated identities. You might argue that she's not "changing," she's just embracing her femininity. I don't think that's wrong. I think she does genuinely enjoy feminine things, but her inclusion of them in her lifestyle would have been much more gradual if she were to discover it for herself, instead of for another person. But what I find so romantic about her relationship with Prussia is that he would love her either way. Either way, they'd have that deep care for each other. She could be embracing all the masculine traits she could (as she did when they were children), or she could totally tip over to her feminine side (which she also did), and despite his merciless teasing Prussia would still love her. Maybe I'm looking way too deeply into these characters - and I have forgotten many details about the story, so forgive me if I got any facts wrong. But yeah, there you go. (This is coming from someone who doesn't often enjoy the "enemies to lovers" or "rivals in love" tropes.)
oh, wow !!!! i’ve always preferred pruhun over aushun and i didn’t quite know why, but you’ve just put it into words !! it’s very well-spoken and insightful and i couldn’t agree more. truth be told, i’ve never been too fond on hungary’s character, but whilst making this video and watching all this chibi hungary, i realised how much i *adore* chibi hungary, which made me think... “is it just adult hungary i’m not a fan of?” i’ve always thought hungary was a bit bland and lacked depth... but that’s just her as an adult and reading this, i’m realising, it’s her with austria. when she was with prussia as an adult, she was able to have fun and be herself just by speaking to him and i love that for her, but with austria... it’s like she’s always trying to please him and is bending herself to his desires (austria is lovely, one of my favourites, so nothing against him - it just makes me realise how incompatible they are) rather than doing what’s best for them - what’s best for her. it’s as if she’s not actually... hungary when she’s with austria, but rather, this cookie-cutter 1950s housewife you see in tv shows. it’s not a hungary i recognise. with prussia, that’s when you’re able to see the true hungary, the one from when she was a carefree child. it’s as if she felt she had to act that way because she was a lady, but with prussia... she’s able to show her true colours and have *fun* and i love that for her.
That's true!!! Hungary is a woman who's grown up a "tomboy" and it sometimes makes uncomfortable to see her so ladylike around Austria. No hate, though, ladylike hungary is also just as amazing of a woman but it really feels like she does what girls usually do to get a boy they like; the try extremely hard to turn into someone there not, someone the assume the boy woul want. But she acts herself around prussia and the deep connection and bonding that they share is beautiful. I envy them lmao.
Not to sound like a jerk, but I feel like she’s a bit too obsessive over him, and he’s too much of a jerk to her (and everyone) so I don’t really ship it......at all......
@@drippingviolets1313 1.You don't sound like a jerk, don't worry 2. I think you're right, she does tend to be a little bit too obsessed with austria, but I think it's cute to a *certain* degree 3. Austria is kind of an asshole to everyone (I still like him as a character tho, then again, I like every character in Hetalia) 4. If you don't ship it, that's completetly fine. Nobody should be shamed for (not) shipping something. It's your own opinion, afterall.
Whenever I see Hungary, I always wonder how she gets her hair so perfect. Like, it takes me at least 10 bottles of hairspray, 3 curlers, a straightener and millions of wires to get my hair like that!!
8:07 see? see that _heart?_ SEE? it's the only hint of poland and hungary's relations in the whole anime or at least i count it as so **cries in corner**
So in Hetalia. Hungary is close to Austria, she talkes about him, she worried about his well being. But aren't Polish and Hungary closer? You know "they fight together, and drink together" stuff.
True, but not many country knows this friendship. I guess Hima wanted to make relationships between the neighbor countries. And because of the Empire thing. Polish-Lithuanian Union (Poland and Lithuania are close to each other in Hetalia) Austro-Hungarian Empire (Austria and Hungary are close to each other) This friendship is not really famous. Also, we don't have common border anymore. 🙁
@@honoraryanglo2929 I know that, I'm talking about the rest of the series. Edit: what i mean specifically is, not once do you see the two showing such camaraderie.
This is just stupidly convenient. My friend is opening a minecraft server and I’m gonna mess around as Hungary, then this video released. Thank you lmaoo
She my favourite female character in Hetalia. She conquered my heart when she came out as a girl in this episode. I really enjoy her and Aushun and Nyo Aushun are my favourite ships
Same 😰 kind of wonder what my obsession with Hungary chan says about me considering I'm British and know less than nothing about the world and probably only like Hetalia because of Hungary chan and my shot attention span.
3:37 When Prussia finds out Hungary is a girl the look on his face is no less than priceless then the scene with the crotch cloth, after he sees Hungary's breasts, it's nice to know he's not too awesome to be a gentlemen sometimes
I get that AusHun makes more sense historically, what with the Austro-Hungarian Empire and all that, but as characters, I always liked the Hungary x Prussia ship more
actually if we watch this historically Austria literally forced Hungary to make monarchy (also Hungary was always poor and had shitty emperors so yeah she didnt had any other choices) also austria wanted to "delete" hungary and make it a part of Austria. they wanted to change the national language to german and there was several other stuff like this so no. Hungary NEVER loved Austria. They were one because of needs not because of love.
@@ceea3117 "Hungary was always poor and had shitty emperors" - That couldn't be further from the truth. Hungary was a quite wealthy and powerful kingdom in medieval times.
I honestly think being a lady didnt make Hungary happy her smile is way too fake she's boyish and rough and she is truly herself when it happens I think Aushun was a bad match Prussia loved Hungary for who she is despite realizing her gender I honestly think Pruhun is a much healthier relationship she's just not ladylike she never has been
Technically you are right as the Austro-Hungarian Empire had several problems that would lead to its downfall. Mainly the fact it was made up of different groups of people of completely different who didn’t like each other.
It's just my personal head cannon but I think Austria infantilised her. This was quite common during the time they would have been married since women back then were seen as equal to children and husbands were the providers and only during the 20th century women started to be seen as equals. I don't think Austria set out to hurt her and he does seem to care a great deal about her but I think he treated her like a child and that must have caused her to became dependent on him to the point where every other word that comes out of her mouth is "Austria". She seamed a lot more happy and mature when she thought she was a male and I think being with Austria messed her up.
@4th wall breaker I understand both languages perfectly, and I can write in Hungarian too, but the spelling (in Hungarian) is sometimes a whole level of stress XD
There aren't that many straight ships In Hetalia because most countries are male lol. So your options for straight ships are very limited, its basically Austria x Hungary and that's it for ships that are strongly supported by Canon lol.
@@nompuehuenu That's more than a reach lmfao. They're not just "good friends," in no way shape or form is their relationship platonic just because they aren't married anymore.
@@ExtraVictory bro chill, why are you so upset over these two anime people? they are friends and perhaps lovers that's it, Himaruya wouldn't keep drawing them spending time together tf.
@@nompuehuenu you know what they say about assumptions, don't you? Come on, I was born in Japan and speak 2 languages and even I wouldn't misunderstand malicious intentions from people I speak to online
