Great job with the video about the Marine Corps Special operations Forces that includes the Marine Force Recon, FAST Fleet Anti Terrorism Marines and Marine Raiders. All of them are real Warriors in there own way while defending America and freedom against all enemies everywhere by any means necessary at all times and all costs.
I loved training with SRT. The dudes at the air station I was at had an open invitation to their training days. Went through breaching training, deftac, shooting drills and room clearing with them. They were great teachers as well as high speed operators.
I was in an ANGLICO unit and it’s not special forces. It’s special purpose. We were far from tier 1 but it is arguably one of the best units in the USMC. Working in 3-4 man teams attached to a foreign nation military for fire support during combat operations was one of the major focuses.
We deploy with, support, allied forces so, for example, if we're embedded with the Korean ROC Marines or a Britt Commando unit, we allow that unit to take direct advantage of all US forces fire support elements - mortars, rockets, the full compliment of artillery systems, naval gunfire, close in (helicopter gunship) support, and close air (fixed-wing) support. Most of our guys are communicators and/or scout/forward observers. I'm second generation ANGLICO and I had two primary MOS designations of 2531 Field Radio Operator and 0861 Fire Support Marine. I was also a 9962 Advanced Parachutist. Dad was a logistics officer with ANGLICO. I have a son in the Corps, but he decided, smartly, to save his back and knees and go a more standard logistics Marine route. Loved my 7 years in ANGLICO and all my ANGLI-Bros
Marine security guard school was best training I had in the Corps. It was brand new back then, but I loved it, except for shotgun week now that was brutal..
I was offered a spot in Anglico with a staff sgt that was going. We did OIF 1 and 2 together he said I need a marine I can count on! I wish I would have went!
All Marine Raiders are both jump and dive qualified. And I think another unit that is worthy of being call special/special purpose/elite etc are the Radio Recon Teams (RRTs) that also operate ahead of the conventional forces to conduct electronic warfare and SIGINT operations to support the MAGTF; these guys sometimes operate alongside Division Recons and maybe Force Recons too.
FAST must be the unit that would have been deployed to rescue Embassador Chris Stevens....except that code name Renegade told them to stand down. (interesting fact, look up the meaning of the word "renegade" and you'll know what we were up against all along)
Combine all to one. The patch/designations will have One, then follow-on to what they are trained to do! Example: "MARSOC 1" then follow "MARSOC 1/2" etc... Why? The similarities. Or "MARSOC A,B,C,D etc...". I was para, CC, swimmer, gunner etc... in the Nav. But never "special". Sooo many schools/courses/quals, but never special. All my training time was about 1.5-2 yrs, but never special. Only to those that I....?
Would never happen. The Marine Corps already has an aversion towards SOF if you know the history of MARSOC and how it developed, they’d never green light an SMU that would fall under the JSOC umbrella. Besides, bunch of Marines already work in Tier 1 units.
I'm a Poole (Guidon Btw), my ship date is June/10th/24. I'm going in for Military Police, but I had no idea SRT existed. Any extra information I can be notified about?
Yeah, I was a Marine Corps MP. I understand that the Corps ended the 5800 (military police) MOSs. and contract out police duties to civilians. Double check with your recruiter and do your own research. The Marine Corps is worth it if you still want to serve. Maybe focus on Recon/Force Recon/MARSOC Raiders instead if I am correct about military police. I separated in 2004. Just a heads up.
@@ytty5183 sad times. I knew about the tank crews going away, I heard about MPs, but when he said he was a poole waiting for a ship date to become a Marine MP, I suggested double checking with his recruiter.
I’m imagining how rad a General Discharge podcast would be. Everyone’s identity would be concealed and the GD team would vet guests background to ensure validity. As consumers we would get to hear from individuals who do all this work without them compromising their identity.
No smart “active” tsc holder would interview. You don’t know by now they don’t respect privacy? If they thought it was so and so they’d flip their life over and find or fabricate proof
I wonder if MARSOC will ever have a tier one element. Maybe, maybe not. To me, I'd want every branch to have a tier 1 element, including Coast Guard and Space Force, but thats just me. On a more realistic note, I think there should be a Reserve Raider Bn that focuses on Latin America, and Raider Warrant Officers like the Green Berets have. Big USMC should bring back the Paramarines and have them take the DA mission from Recon so that Recon can focus on SR.
I believe the Coast Guard’s elite MSRT is actually considered a Tier 1 unit. We just don’t hear much about them cause they keep a tight lid on what they do. Being a part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security & not a part of DOD like every other branch might also have something to do with it.
There's no need for a USMC tier 1 unit. As a matter of fact, there's nothing new that MARSOC brings to the SOCOM table that isn't already contributed significantly by USASOC, NAVSPECWARCOM & AFSOC. And the Coast Guard actually have a tier 1 unit or kinda at least, it's the MRST.
That would be wrong. If no MARSOC you would still put the work back in the hands of Force Recon . People think there are a lot of people on spec ops but that isn’t true- guys retire, people don’t pass training and acceptance, folks get hurt and lose their lives( sadly) . Talked to a neighbor who was a former force recon marine - he told me like guys who are Army Special Forces ( rangers and green berets) that the training and work takes a hard toll on people’s bodies and lives. The plan was always to have a marine contingent JSOC was created but marines resisted it cause they feared losing vital assets ( there was always talk of getting rid of the marine corps all together in modern history and Force Recon was disbanded before in marine history) Before MARSOC joined special operations , Force Recon did the job , albeit mainly under marine command. Marines a slimming down akin to what the Royal Marine Commandos are , and emphasis will be on more specialized training for the average marine infantry . Scout snipers have been eliminated and the job is being passed to Marine Recon. But Marine Raiders will now be in places that can free up assets like Navy Seals, Green Berets, Rangers , Air Force Reconnaissance ( former combat weatherman) to rest and retrain or to join in joint operations
@@dallasyap3064wrong on that, but not shocking. The one thing that MARSOC did better than other SOCOM elements: intelligence and integration of it into all levels of organization in and under a SOTF. Not saying Army SOTBs or other enablers are bad -- far from it. No one's ever going to hear much about that part, though.
FAST and RRT Marines are from Security Forces not Marine Security Guards. USMC Security Forces are Infantry Marines with additional Security Forces designation.
@@codeman9145You can actually sign an MG contract and if you get assigned to FAST (as opposed to any other Security Forces or MSG positions, all part of MG) it’ll be the first thing you do in the fleet. You’ll have to do infantry for the remainder of your contract when your time in FAST is up though. (I say ‘you’ but I mean whoever is in the process of picking their MOS)
IIRC, when MARSOC was formed, the Corps disbanded Det. 1, the 2nd Marine Division's Small Craft Co., 1st & 2nd Force Recon Companies, and used those manpower slots for MARSOC. They also moved the FMTU under the MARSOC umbrella. The active Force Recon guys, that didn't got to MARSOC, got moved into Deep Recon Platoons over in the Division Recon Battalions. As far as EOD supporting MARSOC goes, they have their own EOD Tech, but can draw additional resources from other units. You might also want to clarify that guys assigned to FAST and RTTs are Marine Security Forces, not Marine Security Guards (the guys that guard US Embassies). And lastly, nothing on Radio Recon? Overall, it was a pretty good overview of the various units and their capabilities.
Det 1 was the proof of concept for MARSOC. A lot of Marines involved, but not all, were given orders to MARSOC (including the Radio Recon Marines 😉). Some even got scooped up for things like TFO.
I've always thought of Battalion Recon marines as the Marine Corps suedo equivalent to the Army's 75th Rangers(albeit Recon marines aren't SOCOM) in that they are advanced infantry like Rangers, and Force Recon is morCommander. Similar to SEALs but again Force Recon answers to the MAGTF CO rather than a SOCOM combatant commander. Is this a naive assumption?
@@McKillahGuerilla not at all, you are correct. I had the chance to go to the Raiders when they started, but I had friends who warned me about going. From what I understand the Marines in charge put a bunch of infantry leaders in charge at the detriment of the unit, not sure how true that is, but I trust my friends that were there.
@@ConservativeTeacherReacts I've done alot of research and from the outside looking in and from some recon marines I have met that's just the impressions I've come up with. I know that in the 80s when SOCOM was stood up then USMC Commandant Paul X Kelley said something along the lines that the Corp didn't need a elite spec ops unit because the Corp itself is elite, pretty much echoing the sentiments of WWII Marine commanders in resistance to the establishment of the WWII era Marine Raiders. Which I always thought was ironic because it was the Marine Raiders who gave America one of its earliest retaliations against the then Japanese empire and they were America's first official spec ops force.
Fingers crossed for a video detailing the US OSS and British SOE from WWII. The SOE and OSS are the grandfather of modern American and British special ops, well Britain also formed the SAS and SBS during WWII but still lol
I’m not sure if all the info for FAST is correct due to The Marine Security Guard Security Augmentation Unit (MSAU) being stood up since Benghazi. It sounds like MSAU’s mission was carved from FAST, but I’m not the expert here! I’d love to hear more about the differences
FAST and RTTs recruit from infantry Marines with security forces contract. These Marines go through CQB School and CQB wise, they can hold their own against MARSOC Raiders.
I haven't checked, but I was wondering if you could di a video in the future on the Marine's PLC (Platoon Leader Course). I'm planning on doing this option while in college, missed Freshman year's chance just becuase I didn't know about it.
You know when a tank colin gets pined down for exsample in a mind field or on a cliff face, or in urban setting and the lead and rear tank is shot, What could the tank coliom do?
There are 18 billets (last I know) at CAG (Delta Force) for Marines all filled by Force Recon and Marsoc Marines (some grunts have made it) and they are shooters in the squadrons in stacks. My old roomie in 2nd Force in 90s did 15 years in CAG Recce squadron after passing all testing. There are Marines in ST 6 but only in support billets never in stack but they deploy and go on missions and operate. There are bunch of Marines in “Orange” the National Reconnaissance asset. There are a shitload of Marines in CIA Ground Branch including high leadership. All former Force Recon or Marsoc some former teammates of mine and in their 50s now. Force Recon is a great foundation to go on to tier one units it’s highly respected creates hard very capable Warriors used to doing more with less and like rest of USMC becomes a used asset I in wartime when Marine Corps is running areas of battlefield. Force Recon have been black Gear raid force specialized since the 1990s but can do green side missions too. All NCOs
They still do a lot of training with local PD’s or training programs. Ours went to a local knockoff of Front Sight. Even as a DoD cop we trained with the local civilian cops at their range. We also did EVOC training jointly.
2nd and 4th Recon made the bulk of MARSOC when was reborn in 05 the rest went into deep batt The reason 2nd and 4th Recon were the bulk of the rebirth of MARSOC is because there was no recon units that had the experience and battle hardend elite guys like the 2nd and 4th did 2nd and 4th Recon were legit and elite as they come
@@emmanuelawosusi2365 to my knoweldge now i could be wrong I was in from 2010-2014 USMC 0311 TEAM LEADER, 2/6 Golf Co. 2 Combat Deployments to Afganistan I was in a 4 week training event during a MARSOC work up and my squad played the partnered forces etc... I just thought 2nd and 4th were the first of the 05 rebirth of MARSOC
Former Recon Marine here and I am usually find General Discharge's information to be pretty close to the truth. However, this is a strange set of comparisons. The vast majority of MARSOC came from Det 1 (who were all Recon Marines) and the rest of the MARSOC was filled out by the Force Recon Companies. MARSOC now has much more funding, a larger national mission and tasking that Recon, and a different selection process...however they are both cut from the same cloth. The rest of these units are great American, fantastic Marines, and very specialized at what they do, but really don't even come close the same official and unofficial selection processes. PLEASE understand that is not a dig, but even the ANGLICO guys on this thread are laughing at the comparisons. What is even more silly is the ideas that some many folks didn't know ANGILCO are JTACs???? They were some of the best JTACs in the military LONG before that term was even in vogue. The internet is becoming a stranger place by the day!
Former USMC Infantry Team Leader here 2/6 Golf Co, 2010-2014, 2 combat deployments to Afghanistan, Marjiah and Warsheer, To my knowledge i honestly thought the bulk of the rebirth of MARSOC in 05 came from 2nd and 4th Recon being that 2nd and 4th were the most elite units in the Marines at that time 2nd and 4th Recon was our version of SEALS correct me if im wrong i worked with MARSOC on one of their work ups during a 4 week training event my Squad was put in the beautiful role of the partnered forces lol I just thought 2nd and 4th were the first of the 05 rebirth of MARSOC
Can you do a video on the LAPD SIS(Los Angeles Police Department Special Investigation Section) they are like a tactical detective and surveillance and have been in a lot of gun fights and subject controversy
Former SRT Marine here, SRT is not special operations. It’s a specialized tactical capability to be sure and most of us had to go thru a selection at our command, but not all teams are created equal, just to be clear
Nice breakdown. Looking forward to the other service breakdowns if you guys ever get to it. An agency that's been in the news lately is HSI with the Diddy raids...maybe a breakdown on them would be an idea. I've never heard of them prior to this. Apparently, they are a division of ICE but are trying really hard to separate cause their mission is so different.
FAST is unique. I wouldn’t call them ‘Special Forces’ they’re more like a ‘SWAT’ team. They have a unique mission. I had a buddy who went FAST back in 2006. I only got to talk to him a couple of times after I got out. He seems to enjoy it.
I remember when they were doing tryouts in 07 on Pendleton. I was a 0351 at the time and was a dumb farm kid as well. I had NO idea what SF was let alone MARSOC haha. If I'd have known more about it, I would have tried. I ended up in a STA plt which was awesome in it's own right. I recommend if folks are interested and have discipline, get after it and try out. Nowadays there are plenty of training aids (ahem-Gendischarge). During indoc we just had a "fuck it don't quit" mentality.
Veteran Vinny, Nick Nausea, Tommy Tinnitus and " Team General Discharge", this is the Best Birthday Gift that this 55 Year Old ( Born 03 April AD 1969) Prior Service Enlisted Marine and Soldier could ever have, seeing this Video featuring USMC Special Operations Forces ( MARSOF). Pretty Cool Units to Cover Better than most Only 3 of These Articles contained any SOF And Really only MARSOC and Force Recon by Article Completed Overexaggeration of Recon Some Pretty Bad Details
😂is this FrFr? SFOD, MARSOC? must be retired special forces, the beards, colored shirts, baseball hats, civilian looking....they use to cover their faces in middle east... but guess not when ur retired
Supply dude, Force Reconn was the Marines standard. THE USMC, Air land and sea, before there was Frogman (S.E.A.L). Anominty being a silent professional. Green Berets had a big part with M.A.R.S.O.C. its all about money $. The USMC is a departure of the Navy. Force Reconn just got more money. Jeff M USMC occasional hero nuff said.
Great channel love every episode! I like history and military history and stuff doing with the military and what each branch does and all the different jobs and difference between the special forces. I have learned a lot from this channel!
FAST (Fleet Anti-Terrorism Team) and MSGs (Marine Security Guards) are completely separate. MSGs are the ones that are standing duty at embassies and consulates around the world. They fall under the MCESG command (Marine Corps Embassy Security Group). Now, MCESG has something similar to FAST called MSAU (Marine Security Augmentation Unit). In short, these MSAU teams are made up of actual MSGs and are smaller than FAST units, but they are able to respond much quicker due to their size, their involvement with the State Department, and their connection to MCESG. There's more differences and similarities to mention between FAST and MSAU, but FAST Marines are *not* MSGs and MSGs cannot become FAST Marines (while they are MSGs).
Is it just me to not want MARSOC to be sub-commanded under SOCOM? The biggest schtick about the Corp is that it can operate its own combined warfare with her task force elements, unlike the other much bigger service branches. MARSOC would do best with their own version of tiering, the own version of SOAR, QRF, and their own version of embeds (JTAC, EW specialist etc.) if they are serious about a near peer conflict.
One thing I never understood about Special Reaction Teams, I know they're Military SWAT version, but where exactly do they get deployed? When on Deployment in Middle East, what exactly do they do? Do they do exactly what regular SWAT officers do but in Afghanistan, Iraq? Do they add support for Marines going from house to house around cities on raids? Next question, when SRT are not on deployment, they're home, on Base, what exactly do they do? Do they do everything regular SWAT officers do across the States, but on Military Bases only? Or do/can they join regular SWAT Police off base?
There are senior enlisted(staff and above) as well as officers(usually O-3 and above) that can take the JTAC course to be qualified. Each SALT usually has 1-3 JTACs. I’m in ANGLICO btw
Do RCMP You could do one just in basic RCMP training and over of career options, And then one for RCMP ERT, and they’re pipeline and interesting history with CAF SF
Do they still have marines on the SRT since iirc the Marines have gotten rid of their military police? I’ve not found much on it to be fair, I’m likely missing something.
I like the disclaimer at the beginning of videos that your voices are disguised so you can’t be detected. As a person who researches topics like these shouldn’t you have learned by now that if the government really cared nothing you do would matter. I love your videos but let’s not be delusional, if the US government wants to find someone they will find them.
Hey general discharge long time fan I been wanting to join the army and the Calvary scouts have been getting my attention, but I can’t find much information on them could you do a video on them?
your videos are not interesting anymore all your videos are same :/ i have seen those units in separate videos on your channel now you make them in one video ... make some other videos ...form other units ... used to enjoy your videos
