Their description of Engvall as huge, muscular and imposing, but with no bite, is basically mark kastelic, who Steve keeps describing as a bastard. Alfie was giving Kasty a dressing down on the bench last season for not finishing his checks. Hard to imagine “teaching meanness” by the time you’re at the advanced point in their careers that these players are.
@@riverdog912 oof, hope they get ya'll fixed up soon. that is the thing i'm looking forward to east about this storm. I live on the outer edge of the power grid in my county so when/if (probably when) the power goes out we're looking at 2-3 weeks before it's fixed again. no power sucks in florida this time of year.
Engvall’s reputation for being soft is well-known. In “NHL Chirp” compilations Nick Paul and Brandon Hagel bullied him in 2022 and Paul repeatedly told him how he wasn’t going to do anything.
"If the Bruins hadn't been so successful the last few years, we might look at them differently," says Adam, and yeah, obviously - but they weren't! If the Vegas Golden Knights had hired me as a GM they'd be a lot less successful too, lmao
Stolarz is probably a better goalie than Woll and played well for Florida last season, but we also have to remember than Stolarz played behind a Florida blueline and Florida penalty killers, not a Leafs blueline and Leafs penalty killers. It's crazy hearing the term "hometown discount" being used with Shesterkin, by a lot of fans and media, when last I checked the Rangers aren't based in Moscow.
Adam takes on Stolarz is nothing less than a dumb take. Campbell was fantastic for the leafs Samsonov did great when they won a round and just last season Jones was crazy good. Nothing Comes close to this guy takes
You whiffed on the biggest reason Pierre Engvall got waived. It gave the Islanders the cap space to give Oliver Wahlstrom a shot at sticking. I'm sure that Patrick Roy and/or Sweet Lou gave Engvall a to-do list to put into action if he isn't claimed and winds up in Bridgeport. If he does get claimed, better luck elsewhere. If not, I'll be there in November when Bridgeport comes to play the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to see if there is progress. I had also hoped to get a glimpse at Rutger McGroarty in that game as well, but I see he has made the NHL roster. At least for now. Oh, and GO NAVY!
Easy on the Stolarz hype, if you look at the games he played last season, he played mostly really weak competition. He might turn out to be good, but there's not a guarantee by any means, there's just not a lot of solid evidence to show he's great at any point in his fairly long career.
My lines, Knies-AM-Marner, Bobby Mac- Nylander/Domi- Domi/Nylander, Patch-Tavares-Nicky Bobby, Lorentz-Kampf-Reeves. I like Domi as center, people forget him during playoffs as center, he did so well. It gives coverage when you are trying Willy as a center. I would rotate, Jarkrok, Mcmann, Patch, Robertson, holmberg based on performance.
I would be super curious to see some data on what the average pay is by team when you take out the salaries of their top 5 players and overlay that with their playoff records, Toronto's roster has an AAV per active forward of 1,455,418.89 without the core 4 salaries, their defense is slightly better at an AAV per active player of 2,339,824.29 without Rielly, but their goaltending has an AAV of 1,633,333 dollars. That doesn't feel like a winning recipe.
Great analysis on the Swayman signing, a lot of people aren’t taking into account that in 3 years when he GETS TO his prime he will only be 8% of the cap hit and for a guy who will be super experienced by then, it could genuinely end up as one of the best contracts in the league
I know Adam will never see this, but Myers is from Dieppe (the French side of Moncton) and is Acadian. His name would be pronounced more like “Feel-eep” or “Feel-ipp” and less like “Faleep”
@@lordtachanka4520 quebec and new brunswick both have a lot of french, english, and bilingual people, so if you want to discount that and use some other way of defining what it means to be a bilingual province, then ok.
@@DoctorLexus-4President Officially, there isn't. But yes, Quebec (especially the montreal area) has a ton of english, New Brunswick is known to have their own "language" which mixes english and french in an insane way. But officially, they are not bilingual.
I'm pretty sure that before the Sabres signed Ruff and the Leafs signed Berube... there was word that Berube was interested in the coaching job in Buffalo. And I think he would have been a better pick, but the Pegulas just went with the nostalgia PR move not with the best guy available
For years, I ignored your manscaped commercials. I enjoyed the awkwardness of the ads between the three of you but never had any interest in ordering anything. But you caught me in a moment of weakness and I ordered the beard trimmer and lawnmower. The moral of the story is: when I shave my balls, I'm thinking of you Adam 👍
In reference to how the fans dislike Jarnkrok and not understanding why… it’s because in Toronto we’re the absolute worse fans! As a whole, we’re narcissistic: we lack empathy, we gaslight, we’re control freaks, we’re arrogant and condescending and we don’t know how to offer constructive criticism while being supportive. And it’s not just us fans, clearly the media is just as narcissistic and delusional… my prediction?: there is a 0% chance we win anything of consequence any time soon…
15:55 Steve " I think goalies just exist in pain." I felt that, lol. I started to play in net when I was 8, and now Im 38 and haven't played in about a year and a half because my lower back, hips, and knees are always in minor pain. When I played full time last in 2019, I could barely walk after a game. My hips had gotten that bad. My wife would ask, "Why are you walking like a 100 yr old
Frederick Andersen was fantastic for them, but people in the media and then the fans started to blame him, and it affected his play, and it wasn't his fault. Andersen was the best goalie they had since Curtis Joseph.
What the hell Adam, get Jesse a damn table. You're sitting comfortably while I can see Jesse trying to stretch his arms while holding the Table (or touch screen laptop).
1.) I’m a since birth bruins fan, but LOVE your podcast 2.) Adams “distaste” for us is SO painfully obvious, where Jesse and Steve def respect it but Adams “bias” clearly shows. It fits the show and the balance but I just need to point it out😂 3.) If reports were true of Sway asking for 9/10m signing him at 8.25m is a STEAL. And the bruins did win that negotiation. 4.) I’ll admit they did nearly “fumble” it, but they didn’t. It may have been ridiculous in social media aspect. 5.) I think the podcast got in their “heads” bc Lewis gross more than likely leaked lower than the Bruins ever offered. As yall said they allocated around 8m for sway. I highly doubt they offered anything under 7m. Lewis gross had everything to gain by making Boston look bad. Mission success. But none the less here we are w Sway for 8 years. 😉😂 Love the Pod, no disrespect intended just adding some “bruins fan” prespectives
Steve don’t say the bruins media hated on Hamilton christ the guys mom came into Sweeneys office crying about his play time, guy was a head case, most fans liked kessel he just didn’t have any work ethic, and we got a good pick from it so is what it is, but the Hamilton news that’s just…. No lol
I agree with Adam, I like Murray for a stop gap, I wouldn’t play him in the playoffs unless he really finds his game before then, I’d opt for hildeby in a playoff game over Murray but through the season if its needed let him get some games see if he can find his game. There was a time before his injuries he was really good, it’s not impossible for him to regain some of that form
Leafs have the most goals scored per game since the start of the 2018-19 regular season BUT are 20th in the playoffs. Until that group of 4 can find a way to score in the playoffs nothing else matters. Kadri, Ceci, Holl, Robertson, goaltenders and any other smoke and mirrors issue the Leafs media try and deflect our interest from the spotlight needs to remain on the core four
Kevyn adams didn't sit on his hands all off season. They made 1 trade and got ripped off the whole nhl has to be offering worse deals that aren't acceptable.
“They are concerns that existed when he was drafted and stood 5-foot-10. He was listed in training camp as 6-feet, 181 pounds.” - you are aware teams fudge the details, yes? Happens all over the league. -Adam
@@sdpnThanks Adam, seemed as though all other hights & weights were taken at face value & an open question about Topi’s place in the org is tossed out. Topi’s place & focus should be improving & developing good habits. Earning top pair minutes in the AHL. Anything else needs to be white noice, a useless background hisssss.
@cjjulius4138 they pay it every year as a way to keep the 50/50 split even between ownership and players. Escrow was just stupid high recently because players were in debt to the owners because of covid. Because they no longer owe the owners back for covid the escrow goes back to normal.
And because of the Leafs cap situation they were forced to put players on ltir and now they cannot acquire ANY cap space this year, meaning they will have no ability to add a player at the deadline. Great move 👍👏👌😂
