"Being left standing trying to follow where the ball falls?" Awww, c'mon man, who needs for the game to be that real?!? It's missing alot of the charm that the previous games had.
No Multiplayer doesn't bother me at all.....seeing that none of my friends have PSVR anyway. Got my preorder code today.....can't wait for my disc to arrive!!! ⛳👍🤘
Great review as always! The game is super fun. I love to golf, but boy, does it get expensive! Super impressed with the physics engine is this game. Feels extremely close to real life golf!
Ahh man.. As someone who loves Golf games I really enjoyed the matches against characters/ tournaments. That's okay though! I know I will still find some enjoyment. Also, Great review btw! Thank you!
I'm with you. I love the older Everybody's Golf/Hot Shots games and I wish this game was more like those. But damn, it's so good and only $30 so I have a hard time complaining (but I still will.) :D
@@brainwash650 lol literally no ones crying. I have it and enjoy it, but I also miss playing vs computer players. Hopefully they add some DLC in the future!
I'm happy it's a single player. I am not an online player. I understand I'm not the majority. But it's nice to not feel pressured to play online with all these game packs and crap. I'll be picking this one up for sure. I dont want lobbies and I dont care what skins and clubs everyone else has. I just want to play golf. This is great.
Love this game. It really is accurate as I slice the ball just like I do in real golf. I'm really surprised there aren't more golf games offered in PSVR. It's the perfect sport for it. I'd really like to see a game that offers actual courses and landscapes.
Maybe it is because I am strange, but I like the idea of not having NPC enemies, as you said, it is just about improving your score and “beating yourself”. However if they add in optional tournaments or even multiplayer that would be great, but even without I am certain this is one of the games, that you can go back to once in a while just to play a round and relax.
1 big change needs to be made before I purchase. I need multiplayer, or some kind of campaign/tournament mode. They don't even really need AI that we watch real time, just give me random scores at the very least. Like a tourney bracket with scores from AI, say leader has -2 after 18 holes, that at least gives me incentive to try better, makes clutching a long putt more satisfying or slicing out of bounds more heartbreaking. I was really looking forward to this but I think i need to hold off for noe, hopefully update and patch will see this implementation. Also would get tired of just standing there, I get it's immersion breaking to fly with your ball but it would be more satisfying that way in my opinion. They have replay mode so it shouldnt be to difficult to implement.
Cool. Having experience playing golf in real life, this is a nice PSVR experience after getting used to the complex tutorial and control set up. Really nice graphics too. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for this great video. SO... I've been playing for a couple of days. It's crazy realistic in that I slice all my shots just like real life, it's spot on in that regard. The great thing is that I can work on improving my actual golf game in my living room, brilliant. I'd love to be able to play actual golf one day! The graphics are a little cartoon-ish but it's a very nice environment to play in and there's no permanent haze like in some VR titles. BUT by far my biggest complaint is how the designers treat me like some desperate guy that loves the company of robotic virtual girls. Conversations are long and drawn out with the caddy and the receptionist as they sunnily talk at you about nothing. This is compounded by bizarre short vignettes - if balancing on a log or eating chocolates on a bench with a strange 17 year old cartoon girl is your idea of fun there are surely better ways out there of doing this? Worse of all, the deeply annoying caddy CHATS WHILE YOU'RE TAKING YOUR SHOT. She trundles out the same lines no matter what, so as you attempt a put she will blurt out 'MAYBE YOU NEED TO PRACTICE' arrrghhh!!! If anyone knows a way of turning off the virtual 'characters' then please let me know. It desperately needs a crowd as well. I remember playing golf games decades ago and it totally helped having a few crowd reactions. Some claps, some 'ooos' and 'arrrs' after you take your shot. Instead all the bleachers are empty and it's just you and this little weirdo that follows you around and won't shut up. I felt like Bill Murray in Lost In Translation. One other thing - you select a tropical course because you fancy a game by the beach and the game sticks you in a rain storm. On a British course I'd expect that but in the Maldives? WHY? Those gripes aside it's a *lot* of fun and I will be playing it a lot I'm sure - but if a more grown-up game came along (as in graphics / crowds / competitions and informative caddies rather than a prattling cyber bimbo) I would upgrade.
Best dating sim disguised as a golf game I've ever played. This game is really good though, I've been down driving ranges with my Grandfather a few times and with the exception of the weight of the club it feels more or less the same. VR really is elevating sport games.
Definitely glad I got this, spent a couple hours playing last night. More difficult than the driving range demo, but that’s to be expected. Great review as ever, keep it up!
seriously, & I adore VR, I can't go back to flatscreens, its a joke in comparison..but I need live online opponents, or I can't get invested long-term.
@@chris9515 lol. I have it and Farpoint. Both are amazing games, but not quite as polished as any big name shooter. Also, The AIM controller is amazing, but not really good for long sessions. I would like all VR shooters to offer AIM and DS4 support. But not how the DS4 is currently used in VR. I want it to be exactly the same as flat shooters, except you can move your head independantly from your gun. Imagine a CoD game where left stick controls 2 axis movement, right stick controls aiming, Headmovement allows you to look where your gun isnt pointing. L1 snaps sight/scope to your face and you aim with your head.
No multiplayer, srsly? Well, that sux. Was looking forward to playing with my friends. Other than that it seems to be a great golf game. Let's hope it sets a standard for future VR golf titles. And maaaybeee there'll be a multiplayer addon/patch in the future!? I know it's unlikely but I refuse to give up hope ;)
Just got it yesterday what a beautiful VR game. I hope there are downloads in the future, online more courses more caddies more clubs but it's still amazing!
Great review Bryan. This maybe one of the more random questions you get on this, but why are your golf clubs green in this demo? Is that just how they are, or can you choose different colours?
There are different sets of clubs you can unlock. If I remember right the green ones are the Beginner Clubs which are much, much more forgiving and tend to shoot straighter than the standard or Big Air clubs.
I get that it wouldn't have local multiplayer, that makes sense. however it not containing an A.I opponent during a single player game is more than a little disappointing. I mean I get that in golf your opponent is the course itself and can be played alone but it seems to me that some of the fun in competition will absent. The Wii golf was a fun game but how many times have you played it by yourself? Still looks like fun though.
Was looking forward to this, as I loved the Hot Shots Golf game I have for the PS2. But man, this game made me feel so uncomfortable. Not the gameplay, but the damned caddy. My first 'random' event was her sitting next to me on the bench eating chocolates, and it made me feel so fucking awkward. Probably going to have a hard time playing this one again.
I’m here because I’m considering getting this game,I figured I would see how others feel about it first...oddly enough, you comment doesn’t really surprise me.There has always been some really weird games coming out of Japan..lol
I set a reminder weeks ago for today when I heard this was coming out. Everybody's Golf is the only game I play on consoles. I'm a little disappointed about the big missing features but hopefully they will get added. Thanks for the great review.
I just got this game with a psvr bundle . It was my first game to use the move controller for me , it was my second day " ever " to play any type of VR game . It all looked cool , I ran through the tutorials faster than I should have , the game took me to a reception desk and ......................Woooooooo !!!! Hello Ducky Wucky! !!! The reception girl was a knockout .............God Damn at those VR legs !!!!! Woooooooo Weeeee ..............Golf was suddenly the last thing on my mind . It was a welcome to VR moment that I didn't see " coming " . lol
Great vid Bryan. Definitely gonna get this when it's on sale. The lack of multiplayer is a big shame. How fun would it be to stand next to your opponent when they're taking their shot and just chatting while you play? That would surely have increased their sales a lot. I reckon you're OK to just mention the review key once, it's obvious you were being fair. To be honest when I played the demo I didn't even think about multiplayer, it was just all about trying learn the controls. Well, if Farpoint can add legitimate multiplayer post launch then maybe EGVR can too. Fingers crossed.
Best review I’ve seen so far. After trying the demo I’m waiting for a sale which shouldn’t take long. You almost sold the game to me but the lack of content is making it difficult to justify a day one buy.
Let's hope this sells enough copies so Clap Hanz will make multiplayer and AI DLC or a sequel with more features. As it is, even without multi and AI I think it's still very much worth a buy. The demo was very limited but I already spend numerous hours on the driving range :) Great review btw, as always.
the price really surprised me, also i kept wondering why this isn't a dlc or upgrade to the base game into a VR mode....this is %100 a game i will wait until it drops in price........... A LOT!
Great review! I really wish this had more courses/features and of course, most importantly, Multiplayer!! However, I guess 3 courses that I can play any time, with great physics is cheaper than a couple rounds of golf anyways. So I guess I’ll buy it haha
Sm ASH Tetris, Flower, Rush of Blood, PlayStation VR Worlds, Pac-Man, Duck Hunt, Space Harrier, Outrun, Beat Saber, Pokemon Go (for the first year when it became a hit), etc, etc, etc
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that was slicing all of my shots to the right! It's so surprising how realistic this game is compared to the other Everybody's Golf games.
I don't know of a way yet. But I would like the option to shut the caddie up. Or not take one, at all. It's frustrating enough, getting the hang of it. With the caddie constantly telling you, you need more practice, is f*cking annoying.
Zerothe I was talking some serious smack to my caddies during the first few hours. You’ll get better though, and suddenly they won’t seem so annoying. :D
I just got this yesterday. After reading the reviews about so many missing features I expected it to be bad. I was pleasantly surprised. It's very fun to play. Do you think they will add updates to include major features such as online play and moving the camera around the course? It's tough not seeing the landing zone
What?? You can't do exchange headset multiplayer with two people? How is that something missed? Literally wanted to get my boys into golf by doing exactly that and utterly shocked its not there.
I heard this game had a very small team working on it for 2 years. The majority of staff worked on New Everybody's Golf for PS4 and split up teams right after release in 2017 into a next gen team, DLC team and VR team. However, it's said Sony has expanded Clap Hanz since 2018 with more staff so they can work on something else than just golf. It was 9 years since they released Everybody's Tennis for PSP with story mode and 13 years since the PS2 version. If Tennis returns for next gen I can see it also get a reboot. There is a also a chance Clap Hanz try their own spin on olympic game in time for Tokyo Olympics 2020. Just a speculation for now but it's possible.
I was looking forward to playing this in the winter time when it's too cold to play golf. My friend (who also has VR), and myself always go golfing in summer. I thought this was going to be a great way to enjoy winter. Guess I was wrong. I really don't understand why devs are always scared to take a chance on making a great VR game. Just like Ace Combat It was Awesome, but was very short lived, because they're just couldn't to commit to a full game??? Should have called it "Only One Persons Driving Range Simulator VR". I'll only get this if it's on a deep discount, or they patch some gameplay in to it. Seems like it will get boring really fast! You made the best golf game ever! Too bad you were too scared to finish it !!!
Thanks Bryan, I wondered if playing on your own would feel lonely, good to know there’s lots to unlock Shame there’s no multiplayer, maybe it’ll get patched at some point depending on how popular it is
I think online leaderboards might have done enough to keep this interesting, beyond just enjoying it for what it is. I found myself getting frustrated with the demo but it was because I was swinging the club like I felt I should have swung it (I'm not a golfer) but starting with a simple swing I was able to get much more accurate shots.
Not having an AI to compete against or tournament mode or anything like that really is a deal breaker for me. At least at that price. Really disappointed as I was really looking forward to this.
I contacted various Sony outlets for a review code but only response I got was when I emailed the wrong person lol they tried to assist me but unlikely I’ll receive a code from the email contact they provided. Great review, hope they add the usual Everybody’s Golf campaign through patches or dlc
Man I'm really enjoying this game but it absolutely needs some form of multiplayer/campaign/opponents for replayability. An option to mute the talkative caddies would be nice too. The driving range could also benefit from a point system and/or simple mini games. Still fun and relaxing as is!
There is an option to follow the ball, but I think it's after you hit it? Wolfie was doing it in his stream. I was playing it this morning and enjoyed it, though the male caddy did ruffle my hair and tell me to smile... ugh. Maybe he does that with the guys too. I hope they bring friends leaderboards to it too. I want to play it but I'm sick today.
The only "follow the ball" option I found was for an instant replay (which you have to unlock - Replay Mode #2.) Seems like an easy enough patch though - maybe they'll add if if I'm really, really lucky. :D
Funny how a lot of people wish you could have interaction with other people, or NPCs, but when a person golfs in real life, being alone without any other golfers bothering you is really nice. At least to me, anyways lol. Also having a hard time seeing the ball after your drive is how it is with golf. At least you don't have to spend time searching for your ball in the rough like in real golf!
I'm gonna get it anyway. I would like to increase my vr library before the holidays so I can share a variety of experiences with my family when they arrive for the holidays. I already have a grandma that can beat me in Wii sports. So she would love this
I'm not big on golf games but I like different vr experiences,I'll wait on this one and see if they add the content what the review said was unfortunately missing
To address the lack of AI / multiplayer competition, maybe they could add a ‘ghost mode’, so you could play against your previous best on each course (like time trial ghost cars in racing games), if you see what I mean?
Its a great game, but everything you said is true. The camera should totally follow the ball after you hit it and some kind of campaign mode against other golfers would make it feel epic.
I downloaded the demo and the tracking was very bad ? How do I setup my camera the best way . On top of the tv or below? I tried everything to get it right but the clubs didn’t match ..
My camera is about 6' off the ground pointed slightly downward. I generally stand about 6-7' from the camera and have perfec tracking for pretty much every game with this setup.
awww, no Aim support? Played in the demo and felt "yeah, ok whatever" at first, but then went back in to actually try bettering my swing and enjoyed it so much more. At $40 right now though, I need to see if I can afford it and FNAF next week first
Honestly, they made this game for the golfer not the gamers. It’s single player to give you a gold feel. There is no zoom and you stand there just like real time golf. I love this game honestly.
I think it's somewhere in between. Clap Hanz has always made golf games that feel extremely realistic but are also incredibly accessible to everyone - and I personally think they pulled that off admirably in VR as well. :D
I played the demo then went out and played for real. Then when i got back from golf I pre ordered it. 30min to go before i can play golf in my living room as the real one is shut at this late hour :( :). Its a shame you cant play others but still 18 holes on each of the 3 coarses seems to be enough. Just hope they have downloadable content in the near future or updates.
The second caddie unlocks once you play long enough. Just keep playing each course in different ways (3H, 9H, 18H with Tornado Cups on/off, Long Tee/Normal Tee, etc) and eventually you should be fine.
FastMav347 hey thank you so much, glad you like the channel! The last caddie is DLC if I remember correctly- and he/she isn’t available to buy yet. Hopefully soon!
Great review. I pre-ordered so it's waiting for me on my hard drive. My #1 DLC wish would be a miniature golf course, preferably with a Halloween or Pirate theme. :)
This would be a great idea! The feeling of putting (spelling?) in the game is solid. Having entire courses just for this would be awesome! I don’t know if it would match what the game is going for though. Does anyone know if they’ve done this in the past with the series?
it seems like it's running on the same engine of Everybody's Golf ps4, I get why they made the Caddy more realistic looking but it's kinda weird at the same time, as the courses in everybody's golf looks graphically, visually and the lighting is realistic but the NPC's like the crowds and other A.I controlled golfers are taking a cartoony approach.
We’ve used it on about 200 reviews over the last two and a half years so hopefully you recognize it from this channel. But it’s a licensed piece of music so it’s possible someone else also has the rights to it.
@@WithoutParole Oh ok. For some reason it reminded my of an 80s show but I couldn't tell which one. Maybe it's just similar than. Thanks for the answer and keep up the good work!
I can't play it. What is it using to track the shot? I played for an hour and I couldn't hit unless I pretend I am playing a small chip shot. Then it's giving me 100 power for a little dink shot. Went to the driving range and hit 100 balls really well... came back and nada... What am I doing wrong?
I really wish I could help. I never had any tracking or power issues at all. EDIT: Have you adjusted your swing sensitivity in the Options Menu once you're on the course? Who knows, it could help...?
@@WithoutParole I messed around with my camera and got a better set up.. Still not perfect but a lot better and it seems to mirror my fade really well (although it turns it into a huge slice lol), so I could see it helping me with my golf game. I had a few fun rounds after that :)
This review is funny to me because in 20 years or less we'll look back on videos like this one and laugh that we could ever play something so archaic. Not because the technology is bad, but because of how far this technology will come by then.
I would love to get this game for multiplayer as right now there are not a lot of great options with PSVR, it was a bit of a let down for this not to have multiplayer, even just local
With following the ball after hitting, you are right. But I also think there are a lot of people who would like the real feel of golf and just seeing the ball disappear into the distance. Maybe make it a part of the options. Want to see it as it currently is or as you suggest, following the ball in some way, like you suggest. Also, in the demo I noticed the absence of the metric system which we use over here. In some way, no big deal for hitting the ball. But to adjust the height of yourself or your friends it's a bit annoying we have to look up how many feet/inches we are. Just a minor thing, but still.
There are some new outfits for caddies but no major updates. Really sucks too because adding a few new courses and multiplayer would put this pretty high on our Top 25 List.
@@WithoutParole yea it would make it a purchase for me but since it’s so lite on content I won’t purchase it. There really should have been AI opponents and dlc courses over time. I know I say a lot of negative things but it seems like they don’t try as hard for vr games and for it to thrive we need more and better. Mind you I’m concerned since I just dumped a lot of money into this medium and don’t want it to go to waste.
