Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes or PotA as we like to call it in the biz. KotPotA if you're feeling extra sassy. Some people didn't like this one. I made an entirely other video responding to them lol. It's right above. But for now let's do everything right with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes!

CinemaSins are so unreliable and biased and they’re doing senseless and irrational reviews on well-received and positively reviewed films (Especially 20th century studios film adaptation franchise of Pierre Boulle’s Planet of the Apes instead of one film of the series that is awful itself from 2001 directed by Tim Burton and is the only bad movie of the beloved ip to date) because the franchise much like the 1963 book of the same name is so dang popular.

Fun fact: apparently Caesar's face looked different in the opening of this from how it looked in the prior trilogy - potentially to avoid paying Andy Serkis for likeness residuals. However, it could also be seen as a sign that, shortly after his death, Caesar is ALREADY being misinterpreted from the ape he truly was.

I think it's an awesome detail that most apes have completely forgotten their society's ancient history and the few that haven't are either missing the finer details or have completely twisted it to suit their own agenda. One thing I love about the scene when Mae speaks for the first time is that it also mirrors when Caesar speaks for the first time, it even sounds like she’s saying “No” the same way he did, but she’s saying “Noah.” Wonderful parallel and reversal.
@comiccinema8177
@comiccinema8177 День назад
Mae really has a lot of potential in this new trilogy. I love the grey morality presented with her. She clearly cares enough about Noa to ask him cute personal questions (like his crush on Soona) and say goodbye at the end. But she’s also so bought into whatever propaganda she was fed by humans that she can’t break away from it easily. So it’s up in the air what will become of her and Noa and I think that’s a really fascinating hook for this series.
@KarbinCry
@KarbinCry День назад
Does she have to be a victim of some vile propaganda?
@KarbinCry
@KarbinCry День назад
If they choose to go with that angle, I think it does her storyline a great disservice. It removes the grey. Her actions and attitudes do not require some xenophobic propaganda. She's truly on a mission to save her people. She is their last hope, as everyone else in her party has already been slaughtered. That is a lot of responsibility, legitimate responsibility that does not require brainwashing to be felt.
@comiccinema8177
@comiccinema8177 День назад
@@KarbinCry It’s not xenophobic propaganda she was fed. It’s the propaganda that apes aren’t really meant to have what belongs to humans. She says at the end she doesn’t know what should be given to apes because nobody ever really told her what the endgame was of re-establishing human contact.

Having the marketing mislead that Noa and Mae would be friends was one of the smartest choices. Much like the OG trilogy marketing you expect one type of story but then get something much more layered, nuanced, and not so straight forwards. Having a new human ally essentially also a villain, the heroic ape not trust humans, that was a ballsy move and I'm so glad it paid off.

One thing the ending of this film implicates to me - the trilogy' Simian flu understandably led everyone to assume that _Rise_ onwards was a full-on continuity reboot of the franchise. But then this film concludes with the reactivation of a satellite network, and sapient humans active in bunkers. Who's to say the nukes still can't be activated? What we thought was a reboot might actually be a stealth prequel to the original movie... On a lighter note, please do an EGA about Red vs. Blue: Restoration, in light of the upcoming Blu-Ray release; that or some other Rooster Teeth property.

The old is created but it branches out and soon the new cultures it spawns forget where they came from. Put all of human history into perspective and you see that it all happens pretty quickly. Without the written word and long range communication it takes like 10 generations to forget. Which makes it boht funny and a little depressing when you realize these apes havent left the West Coast of the USA AT ALL in all those generations.

It both adds to the mystique of the setting while also twisting the knife that human "advancement" led to them destroying themselves and leaving echoes of their former selves behind. Something not mentioned: Historically, the Romans had the habit of conquering surrounding tribes (shocker, I know) and then suppressing their culture, so that within decades, while not being Romans themselves, their culture definitely was and they could be relied on being loyal to their rulers. One of the first things you notice is how distinct the culture of the Eagle clan is, and how they are all about symbiosis with their birds. After being captured, this part is actively suppressed, as Proximus, the new Caesar, has no need for eagles, he needs slaves to work on the door. And in the end, it turns out that Noah was able to hold on to his culture and with the help of his clans eagles kills the Roman Empire Larper.

Yeah. My honest reaction to the end of this movie was that that disc could be thing that helps humans take the world back... and I kind of hope that they don't. It's a very subtle but well-made point about what we've done to the planet as a species.

Kevin Durand has been on my radar since Mystery, Alaska, and I've yet to see him put in a bad performance.

In regards to the nebula reaction video, might I recommend reacting to Th3Birdman15? He has a whole series reacting and critizing Cinemasins, and there are quite a few channels reacting to them, but Th3Birdman15 has been the most consistent, so there's a lot to choose from

CinemaWins taking almost a decade to actually rebuke CinemaSins is the only thing wrong with this channel.

Not sure if the script intended the birds to be falcons but those animated birds ain't modeled after falcons for sure😂

I got to see it on opening night, and I was highly impressed. I was partly disappointed with the big reveal about May being there to get that thing from that bunker. When they first revealed her in the trailers, I had a small hope that she would be a kinda time traveler from that space ship from the Tim Burton movie based on her worn clothes being different than the feral humans. Still, it was enjoyable, if only in a mildly bittersweet way by the end

I definitely realised that it leans into the fact that the world isn't black and white at all, there are so many shades of grey and all the character are pretty much a shade of grey. They all want the best for themselves and those they care about, wheter it be a bad or good reason.

Can apes and humans live together? Whos better, Theres no straight answer. As a human we are happy they survived, but if they had the vault (which Mae believed they should) wouldnt they attack apes to take back their world like Woody? Heck he killed his own son to stop the plague, Proximus wasnt wrong, yet he also wanted to kill apes despite Caesers teaching. Its a difficult perspective considering this amazing series is called Planet of the Apes, like Trevathan said. He was right, humans lost their world because of the virus they made, but insist on calling it the simian flu? They had their chance Also Mae seems dark cause she killed Trevathan, but Caeser killed the white ape in the exact same way in War. She seemed genuine about her mother, and teaching her silence, feeling the same sorrow as Caeser with his family. As much as I love Rakas character, he didnt know that Caeser wasnt perfect. He did kill Koba and he didnt like humans, in fact it took an Orangutan like Raka, to convince Caeser to care for Nova from War. Noa I feel is the true north in the dilemma, he knows apes and understands humans and knows the faults and values in each of them. Even he let Sylva drown cause of his father. Grief motivates everyone, but he seems to understand both sides. Finally the necklace, Noa gives it to Mae as trust even after everything. Mae despises apes cause theyre dangerous, but even after EVERYTHING Noa did for her, she didnt trust him not to attack her? She afraid of an instant attack but she killed Lightning with no warning and drowned Proximus' ape prisoners in a flood. Shes the black pot whos been completely untrustworthy from the beginning. The necklace in that scene isnt a sign of coexistence, but divide. The original window divided Caeser between him and the kids he wanted to play with, who like Mae will never accept him or other apes. In Dawn Caeser understood that there is no difference between them, with the added irony of humans evolving from apes. Sorry for the long para, but final verdict, unsure. Surviving extinction could change human hearts, and Noa can teach apes to trust, but they both have dark sides. Im not sure if they can or not
