hi there! welcome to the video where i ramble on endlessly about everything i knit in 2023 ✨
if you're in need of more information, more pictures or more project notes, all of that can be found on my ravelry project page (anne-sophieb), which i update frequently, or on instagram (@candidknit). come say hi and feel free to DM me with any further questions! 🤍
my measurements
height: 161 cm | 5 foot 3
bust: 90 cm | 35 in
waist: 71 cm | 28 in
some additional introductory notes:
• i'm from belgium and studied english and swedish at university (the swedish is a gift with so much online knitting stuff being scandinavian!)
• i'm currently 25 and doing a phd in linguistics on multilingualism in elite education
• i have a controversial hate for capital letters
• my mom and grandma tried teaching me how to knit multiple times, but still have horrid memories of me as an impatient and frustrated kid 🙃 during covid, my mom gathered all her strength to teach me the basics again, and after a lot of practicing and training my patience, here we are!
• i'm that kind of knitter who wishes they were monogamous, but always ends up having at least five wips on the needles...
• and last but not least, my cat lilla deserves special credits on all of my work because she lovingly provides so much cat hair to get stuck in between stitches 🥰
i'd love it if you left a fun fact about yourself below so i can get to know you all a bit better as well 🤍

Get some acid dye and you’ll be able to dye the sweater and it will be beautiful. Look up dying wool. It’s my go to for fixes.

thanks!! might really do so! although frogging is starting to sound appealing as well 🥹

Have you thought about over-dyeing the Robinson wrap? It would get rid of your stain problem. Additionally, if it’s only felted a little bit, there are ways to fix most of it (assuming it’s not felted all the way). This happened with a pair of socks I knit for my husband (he put them in the washing machine 😂) and I was able to unfelt most of it. Just look up a tutorial online; I used hair conditioner to help.

thanks so much! 🥰 i've been thinking about dyeing it, but the ice blue color is soooo perfect it would almost be painful to dye that 🥲 will for sure try the conditioner thing, though!

Amazing first video 🥰 As a suggestion; maybe try on the garments when possible? I can’t tell you it would be a crime to not lengthen your sleeves because I don’t know what they look likeeeeee!!! But for real, great video, no awkward pauses or anything like that, the lighting was fine!!! Especially for a beginner!! And genuinely great advice on the yarn!!! Anyway, loved the video, didn’t even notice the runtime since I was looking up kfo heavy merino alternatives on my phone while listening lol Much love, always, and great job!!!! 🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Love everything you’ve shown ! I totally feel you about yarn. I have my preferences (KFO and De Rerum Natura) and I’m always super afraid to try new yarns and be disappointed/wished I’d invested in my go-to yarns instead. 😂 And thank you ! I was thinking about casting on the Robinson cardigan, now I’m decided to do so. Keep up the good work ! I am always in search of new knitting podcasts, I’m glad I’ve found you. ☺️ Currently 36 weeks pregnant (first time momma), tomorrow’s my last day at work before maternity leave, I plan on knitting A LOT along with sewing and making some ceramics. Much love from France 🌸

thank you so much for this sweet comment 🥰 feels amazing to know i'm really not alone with the yarn preferences! i held some de rerum natura yarns in a store last week and really have been contemplating trying it out since, you may have just convinced me now ✨ so exciting to hear you'll be starting your maternity leave soon! i hope it'll be a joyful and wonderful experience for you! wishing you and the baby health and lots of love 🤍

@@candidknit De Rerum Natura has been my best 2023 yarn-discovery ! On the pricier side though. I have tried their Albertine (merino and silk, fingering), Bérénice (super kid mohair, merino and silk, lace) and Gilliatt (merino, worsted) and I am not disappointed ! Gilliatt is actually a fun surprise, the yarn at first seems a bit « tooth-y » but it produces such a nice squishy fabric, I enjoyed it very much. 🌸 Thank you for your kind wishes ! ✨

@@punctumsutura sorry for the late reply, i must have completely missed your comment! this is so informative, thanks ❣ i really want to try out gilliatt and/or pénélope (merino and silk, dk) soon, but you've got me eyeing albertine now too 👀🥰

Great podcast! I too am a knitting for olive person, for the same reason as you! Fear other yarns won't be the same. This is how I found you actually as I like to see what people are knitting in that yarn 😊 it was great to see all your knits and look forward to more. I also use hjertegarn new life wool (good wool and not itchy) and sandnes merino/alpaka. One day I will get brave....until then I will keep occupied with the endless olive colourways 😊

so glad to hear i'm not alone 🥰✨ thanks for the yarn recommendations! i'm thinking of venturing into more rustic yarns (rustic as in peer gynt rustic, nothing too crazy just yet 😅), but then the kfo heavy merino just calls to me, you know... i do really like drops flora & drops lima! but my conscience makes me steer clear from less ethical yarns if my budget allows for that 🥹
@jamaica7brixton
@jamaica7brixton 8 месяцев назад
@@candidknit same for me. I've not tried drops but have the ethical issue. Love the heavy merino, lately I'm knitting a lot in the merino, it's rather nice too! Finally working on my own cardigan, very excited!

I love everything about this! This video is so nice and calm and yet it’s still so obvious how happy you are about the garments you made ❤️ Stevie is awesome ❤️ I love the colour of the ice blue hat that you made ❤️ I’m so sad about the wrap top with the stain 😢 the only thing I can think to do (other than frogging) is maybe embroidering something over it? But that’s not necessarily to everyone’s taste! Also, Lilla ❤️
@candidknit

thanks so much! was very excited to hear your thoughts 🥰 the idea to embroider over the stain is truly brilliant!!! i'm not exactly an avid embroiderer, but i might be able to figure out how to make a few flowers, or ask a more adept friend to help me out 😉

Your knitting is impeccable ❤❤ beautiful yarn choices, and great video! Using Peruvian Highland Wool for socks doesn't work because it has no nylon in them. There are sock yarns that are DK that will work great. Or you can hold sock yarn double to get DK. 😊 can't wait to see what you make next!
@candidknit

thanks for the really kind comment ♥️ i know this about peruvian, but i don't enjoy the feel of DK sock yarns, it's going to be an eternal struggle i fear! 🥹

@candidknit then go for the mohair experiment! Let me know how it goes. (Or try holding it with a thin linen stand. Maybe that will stabilize the PHW. I can't wait to see what you find that will work for you.

@@candidknit I asked my husband about it this morning. He was a big fan back then. We were still in college and we saw him on my husband’s (my boyfriend at the time) 20th birthday (7/3/1990) in Connecticut. He opened for Joe Cocker that night but SRV is who we really went to see. Of course we had no idea there would only be a few more shows.

Would you be able to reduce this sweater? Or steel it to make something else with the fabric? I bet if you ask a YT yarn dyer for some suggestions or for a collab - you’d get a positive response. So sorry this happened to your gorgeous sweater.
