Dalton was the closest thing to the James Bond from the novels until Daniel Craig. I suppose audiences weren’t ready for the hard edge assassin version of the character because of the Rodger Moore super camp fest of the 70’s-80’s.
@ForestKicks

Re: Felix and him surviving the sharks - yes they did pull him out, but not to safety. As he's being lowered into the shark pool Leiter says to Sanchez "killing me won't stop anything!", to which Franz replies "there are worse things than dying, hombre" ... presumably because rather than kill him Sanchez wants Leiter to suffer the torment of having to go on living after being severely maimed and seeing his wife murdered. His subsequent line about this being the first day of the rest of Leiter's life is a cruel reference to this. That's why he is only lowered halfway into the pool, and why you see Sanchez motion for him to be pulled back up before the sharks can devour him completely.

That’s how it was in the book Live And Let Die, but not played out like that in terms of the dialogue. He’s left wrapped up in a bed, missing part of his arm & his leg, as well as other wounds, but specifically not dead. It takes him off of the case & is a warning to Bond. As originally written, he was supposed to have lethal injuries, but in a later draft he’s kept barely alive.

Dalton was sought out after as soon as Connery left the role in the 60s. However, Dalton felt as though he was too young for the role. I didn't realize until now that the Black Johnson from Die Hard was also in this. Was it a coincidence or done on purpose? I like to think that Sanchez immediately comes to the conclusion that Krest, who he sees as an idiot lucky enough to rescue him, betrayed him since he thought he was so feared that any other person coming for him personally would be impossible. Benicio del Toro as Dario is the scariest Bond villain ever. While I think Living Daylights is the better Dalton movie, Licence is still good and the first that went all out to get a PG13 rating.

Its not the best Bond movie ever since it doesn't follow the usual plot of the pre-Craig era but its a good movie. Yea, there are some inconsistancies but its made up by a ruthless villain and Timothy Dalton, who I believe is the best Bond. Sad that he had only two movies as Bond, but somehow his appearance in "Looney Toons Back in Action" is a suitable conclusion for him as a spy. BTW, Bond is not being logical since he's on a vendetta, so it makes sense for him to mess things up and not be professional, thus no reason to not sin those. PS: Glad there are others in the comments who also think Dalton is awesome!

I like that they chose the actor who played Felix in Live and Let Die. In the book Felix is tortured and killed in the way depicted in this License to kill film (although, somehow he survives this). Such a strange call back and so specific when different actors play Felix between these two films.

Love it and a lot of good points made such as Sanchez being unable to put two and two together despite being smart .... The opening sequence very carefully ensures that Sanchez never gets a good look at Bond, even when he's on the plane (he has his back to him the whole time) ... plus Leiter was now a DEA agent and so his files would show no professional connection to Bond in this regard, who being MI6 would not have much operational history with drug enforcement in South America and so be off Sanchez radar .... The only surviving henchman that fought Bond personally is Dario, and his absence is explained as him being in his native Honduras getting those famous stingers from the Contras while Bond and Pam are doing their thing in Isthmus City, and indeed as soon as they meet at the Olympiatic temple lab, Dario recognises Bond ..... The novelisation and comic book adaptation make this more clear, but you can still understand it from just the movie.

Yeah, Dario may not've been able to warn Sanchez, but what about the Wavekrest crew?
@stoogefest16
@stoogefest16 2 года назад
@@garyjones2561 Doesn’t apply. The only crew member who ever got a good look at him was the one who took a harpoon to the chest. Plus, Bond was never anywhere near the remaining crew mates when they arrived in Isthmus City.

10:20 or 61-62 on the counter: I've read that haggling is a sociologically ingrained custom. You'd think there are times when you can skip the haggle, especially if (NA in this scene) you've haggled the price with that person before. Results suggest, though, if you try to skip the haggle, you end up with no deal.
