A Master Chief Journalist I worked for was aboard the USS Missouri during the filming of this movie, as well as Cher's Turn Back Time video. Evidently, Segal likes to carry a personal firearm, and civilians are not supposed to have weapons on board a Navy ship (for that matter only a couple specific watch members are allowed to carry weapons). According to my old Master Chief, the commanding officer granted Segal permission to carry his firearm while he was aboard because Segal did not want to turn it over and got bitchy about it. My Master Chief really developed a distaste for Segal after that.

Was it a 1911A1 variant? He seems to adhere to that group. IMO, it's not caliber, it's shot placement that stops someone. That's the one gun I wouldn't want to carry, I used to work at a pistol range. There was more failures with 1911's than any other pistol. But, that being said any handgun can fail. I had a yoke screw come out of a .22LR S&W while I was shooting it. The cylinder fell out.

I've always hated the scene where they fire the big 16'' gun. Most anyone knows how to load and a fire a handgun or SMG. With some trouble, a smart man could figure out how a 5'' naval gun works. But the whole point is that no one should know the first thing about a giant-ass 16'' gun. By luck they find the veteran Gunners Mate who actually knows his way around this gun. So why does Ryback, a well trained Seal and a good cook, direct the guys in loading, aiming and firing the big-ass gun? This is just Seagal altering the script because of ME, ME, ME!!!

Actually, the way he holds the 🗡 in that scene is actually taught in most militarys. It's actually one of the best grips for knife fighting. When you hold it with the blade up, it puts your hand & wrist in an unnatural position. So unnatural that one wrong move can rip the 🗡 out of your hand. When you hold it down it leaves your wrist and hand in a comfortable position, meaning it's extremely hard to lose it.

not to dispute a professional.... but the Internal Push button is designed to prevent Accidental lock ins... ... some one putting a Steel, Bolt or Pad lock the the handle is an intentional act... and Every Grocery Store I've worked at the act of placing something in that slot counteracts the internal mechanism -- like trying to watch the light go out in your home fridge ... when you push the safety Button, the Rod pushes through the door activating the same lever as the handle does from the outside... but if the Pin/lock Steel is in place it prevents that

Didn't see this one in the number of comments that I looked through, so I thought I'd bring this one up. At 17:56: Strannix lets go of the knife, because if you are watching closely, you see that Ryback is actually putting a squeeze on the wrist of the hand holding the knife, not just trying to keep that hand at bay. There is a pressure point there. Applying the proper amount of pressure there would cause someone to open their hand reflexively (and because it bloody well hurts), thereby releasing any object they were holding. While I am a civilian, and therefore will make no claims about what sort of martial arts training SEALs receive, as I am unqualified to do so; I think one can surmise that Ryback had been trained in use of pressure points for disarming opponents in close quarters combat. All's that to say, it wasn't a "because the script said the bad guy does something stupid, causing him to lose" moment.
@abigailhowe8302
@abigailhowe8302 2 года назад
yes, they're sometimes called "control techniques" because they allow you to "take control" of the enemy's body in some capacity. one of the nastiest is a turnkey style break, which is particularly useful if they're grabbing you. grab their thumb and the adjacent part of their palm, from the opposite side reaching under the hand, and squeeze while rotating their hand (ie, turning their right hand counter-clockwise on the wrist, and inverting that if gripping their left hand)... Another is a wrist-strike... wrists are some of the weakest parts of the body, and trauma there can also cause the enemy to drop their weapon.

Considering how they've 'worked' for the government, expecting them to have 'appropriated' a chinook and stashed it away for future use, or just outright stolen one just before this isn't too impossible. As for keeping Ryback a secret there , the ship captain took him on as a cook to let him serve out his time as a personal favor I think it was mentioned. As for the seal team not knowing about the weapons systems, they either had thoughts that the systems weren't working, didn't have the authorization to use them or personnel capable of using them and it was a rush to prevent them from getting that control.

@Peter Schmidt Been a while since I watched this, but did he mention a missing transponder ? As for the clearance, the XO telling the crew one thing and the CO another thing, and then either faking one or outright demanding they ignore it is a possibility (and someone did tell the CO of the XO's attempt, and then he made up that other tale). One thing i'm not that sure about though, is how fully-crewed the ship actually is ? They might not have had a full complement , the junior officers might not have had the courage to disobey, could've been waiting to do it officially in port etc.

The female naval secretary has a part in both films, the mustached officer that gets shot in the leg plays a detective. I am sure I am missing some, you could almost make a drinking game out of it. Much as I still enjoy this movie, I also enjoyed laughing at all the points brought up as well. Here's a couple more that always annoyed me as well (For context, I was not in the military): - Ryback refers to Captain Garza by his first name when calling in to the briefing room. While it is established that Ryback and Garza have a good relationship, I would still assume that addressing a superior officer by their first name in public would not be looked upon very well? - Commander Krill claims that he did not know Ryback's background as a SEAL before the operation because he couldn't access the captain's files to get Ryback's personnel file. Given his rank, wouldn't Krill be able to request a personnel file that was missing? I always took it as Krill not thinking much of Ryback, but it still stands out for me.
@TJ52359
@TJ52359 11 месяцев назад
I understood it that the Captain actively placed Ryback's File in his personal safe instead of the file cabinet with everyone else... Krill would have had to call the mainland and had someone read the file to him... creating a paper trail such as it was, and raising the question about why he cared about a man who at first glance is 'just a cook' but is close enough to the Captain that the assignment was a special request; as such flagging him as a danger (to justify going around the captain to read the file) would just draw more attention...

I feel like the Miss July sin was put in here because one of the writers did a lot of research to find that information and didn't want it to go to waste.

In movies, when explosive materials are put into microwaves they always explode when the microwave hits zero. How do the characters know exactly how much heat the microwaves need to emit to detonate the materials?

Let's not forget that a high dollar ship like the Missouri wouldn't be traveling 3000 miles all by herself

Let's also not forget that the treaty ending World War II was signed aboard the _Missouri_ , also on which the music video for Cher's hit single "If I Could Turn Back Time" was filmed.

The most ridiculous thing in this movie is Jordan going from scared little girl to amped up soldier in a matter of hours.

10:33 the microwave blows up because when Tommy's gang came into the kitchen they had to turn the power back on turning the microwave back on with a countdown.

Wouldn’t the microwave have reset to its default “flashing 12:00” condition when it lost and then regained power?

@@RonnieBarzel Good point, it seems like it's a different kind of microwave though as you can see Casey wind-up the timer dial instead of pushing buttons, the movie is from 1992 also.

The power was out when he put the " bomb " in the microwave. He expected the first thing they would do would be to turn the power back on when they arrived. Which activates the microwave, thus exploding the bomb. Come on CinemaSins!

17:49 though true enough comments, it does help you hold onto the knife better, lets you put more power into stabs and possibly better grappling ability which is why both grips were used. Also it was used historically for armored combat(im a bit fuzzier on unarmored but likely the same).

17:56 I think the idea is that Ryback was doing some "special-martial" pinch to hurt Strannix into letting go. I'm pretty sure there is an actual grip that can do that- but, yeah, here it just look like Ryback is gripping the sleeve to cut off blood circulation.
