Same here, where the hell did you go - I can only watch your videos multiple times. You actually taught this old geezer new stuff, that I thought was very valuable. Totally different take on what makes a knife good, which I acted on and purchased many knives you recommended - and each one I am very very happy with purchasing.
I’ve asked myself for a long time now why do I absolutely love the way a strider looks so much? And couldn’t quite figure it out (I mean besides the obvious reasons) but the reasoning still felt “incomplete” BUT YOU SAID IT!!! THATS IT!!! THE GEOMETRY!! Lol....thanks man it feels good to finally know now what that missing piece was....awesome video, love the channel just found you the other day and have been watching a ton of your content....aloha and blessings from Hawaii 🙏🏼🤙🏼
I'm super stoked you put this video up now. This post was a longer read then i intended. Moral of the story; i love my SNG, but it was clearly poorly modified by somebody, needed some TLC and is now everything i ever hoped it would be. > I just got my first ever Strider just last week. Its a M. Strider SNG. It was used but in very good shape cosmetically. I'm very happy with the knife. But I have to be honest, i wasn't at first. I don't know what all the previous owner might have done, but it had detent lash and rattled when closed, had a very weak detent and the weakest lockbar pressure I've ever felt, so weak I came to the conclusion pretty quick the guy I bought it from bent the lockbar. First things first i had to bend the lockbar to have a decent amount of tension. I thought it would solve the detent issue at the same time. It didn't, still had detent play and extremely weak detent. Plus the mother of all lock stick. Ok i think i see why the former owner probably bent the lock bar to be weaker. But that won't cut it for me. Long story short I slightly carbidized the lock bar, and replaced the detent with a new one. Detent lash solved, weak detent solved and lock bar tension solved. What started as a strider horror story is now a love story. As its my first strider i dont know if any of those things were as they were ment to be or how it left the factory. But I doubt it. On the subject on the detent lash, my findings were that the steel detent had flattened against the sand blasted finish, very flattened to where it didn't engage the detent hole anymore. The new detent I replaced is ceramic and it's perfection. The lock still pops a bit when unlocking and it's wearing in right around 20%. I agree that well done titanium to steel frame locks are the best. Medford, Chris reeve, Curtiss and Grimsmo don't use steel inserts and they perform perfectly.
The wide back allows me to more easily handle mine. Knives with narrow back ends, are more difficult to handle. This is my favorite knife now. I’ve handles mine so much, open and closing, I can do it in my sleep.
I just bought a Sebenza 31 and its one of or if not my favorite knife. i think we have the same taste. The SNG looks like somthing i would like. it would be a hard knife to get now because it so hard to find. but def on my list. im not big on flippers. i also like the finger toil too. what stinks is im big in the more expesnsive knives now and i just started really getting into knives.
The cutting edge on mine had a variable angle. I’ve fixed it since. Since mine is intended for hard use, and not filleting fish, I went with a high angle.
I wonder if the hardware has changed through the years with Strider. I noticed the regular sng needed barrels for the screws but the hybrid version didn't 🤔
You wont find them in stock at any retailers. Except maybe strider website and monkey edge. Best bet is looking on the secondary market like ebay and bladeforums
Hey Nero, Spyderco is releasing the Military 2 model to replace the original Military - your favorite knife. It will have different ergonomics on the handle and a compression lock instead of the liner lock. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that. I hope you come back again one day.
I’m not into the change. The military was perfect, we don’t need to precariously close the blade one handed when you can already do that more securely with a liner lock. Idk.
I don’t know why strider will not put a lock bar insert in that there knives. I have that exact knife and I love it. But I have had for others riders total and all four of them had lock stick
Hey man got any info on the misstamped SnG? I got a murdered fatty hollow grind version with the CTS20CV stamp instead of CPM20CV? You know how many of them there are floating around? There's fukall info about them around
I've gotta Protech sterile murdered out STRIDER with the tritium insert on the fire button, that will be shipping out to me tomorrow!🤯 I NEVER thought I'd own one of those! I. So, soo stoked I can't even wait man!!! It'll be my 2'nd Protech, I have an SBR "which is awesome!", that being said this'll be my very 1'st Strider!!! & what a crazy killer "FIRST OF" a Strider!!! 🤗😬😍
Its Normal because they use shitty detent balls. Both my SNG and SMF have pancaked detent balls. Only knives I've ever had that happen too. My SMF is also the only ti framelock that I've seen the lock face actually wear.. you know why? Untreated titanium. Reasons why ill never own another strider.
I would recommend following strider on ig he tells you when there will be a drop, or check out strider bst Facebook page and you can definitely pick one up.
Knives who are made a self defense tools should never have bare metal scales. Whenever your hand will be very wet or bloody the knife will be like a soap 🧼 bar in your hands.
Note: if you look for a Strider on the secondary market, there are MANY counterfeits widely sold. Personally, my rule is never buy on the secondary market. But, if you choose to buy outside the authorized vendor markets, there is a good chance it will be counterfeit. I bet the counterfeit Striders far outnumber the genuine Striders.
How can you tell if you buy a strider on secondary market that it's fake or real? And how do you know the seller is selling a legit strider cause many people do sell real ones.
Dunno what the hell is going on but they just keep looking worse as the years go bye . The original is timeless as is some of the nightmare stuff , the last three or four years though have just been sucky .
18:44... vinny starts smoking crack, after hes already dropped acid and has an out of body experience. 19:50 vinny comes to the realization that he is in love with a lama RIP. Neroknives ⚰⚰⚰
@@neroknives1828 Hi Nero, Can you please do a Dust, Dirt Test on Triad Locks, some people say they don't like triad locks because of Dirt and Dust accumulating in the Lock ? Can you please do a video on it if you have time, thanks
You forgot the most important part about the SnG. Mick Strider was a liar who fabricated his entire special forces backstory, and is guilty of stolen valour. He then went on to use his fabricated backstory to fool blade magazines and the online knife community and used the fame and memory of fallen soldiers Shugart and Gordon to create a knife in their name after they were dead, to shamelessly promote his knives and make profit.
Are these new SNGs!! They look like the old aluminium scales that came out a few years ago. No lock bar insert, not even carbonised lock face. Dodgy lock face geometry that caused lock rock etc. Poor fit and finish and horrible grind. They look cool though. Just always though of strider as a bad version of micro tech.
Dude, I’ve had dozens of Striders and dozens of Hinderers. EVERY single Strider folder I have ever owned has had lock rock or blade play. I have NEVER ever had a single Hinderer that has had any kind of lock. You’re not being honest. I absolutely don’t think you’ve owned very many knives.
Sadly knives have somehow been heavily overpriced the last few years. People are willing to pay obscene prices for mediocre knives. A very good example are the Strider knives. People are paying up to 1000 dollars plus for a knife that comes from a stolen valor guy with severe lockstick and really bad finish many times.
Sorry it’s just me or not.. I can’t stand lanyards... on that Strider... it’s like putting a man bun on it.. man buns are nothing but a saddle horn for their partner... Just Nah.... it actually grossed me out seeing that gross lanyard on that manly, powerful, perfect example of a Strider. Plus it makes no sense that Strider has a huge place to to put your hand... no need for a lanyard... only thing I see them useful on are my axes cause I wrap it around my wrist so I don’t end up losing grip an the axe go flying possibly of hurting someone.
Helps with extraction. Thanks for sharing. I’ve never been grossed out by others objects, and I’ve never had an opinion on how others do their hair. Your name is “tormented slayer” you’d be wise to just keep those things to yourself stinker
strider is a hype and the truth is its just average at best with average f&f sold on a fake story for way too much money. truth is in that price range there are knives 10x as good not sold on a lie. but good video after all.
