It's a decent job (I guess) but I wouldn't recommend staying there for long time. Hours are usually terrible and a shift can last like 11-12 hours if working full - time. If you really have to work there ask manager if it's possible to work ~20-30 hours a week. Be on time for interview, ask some questions (even if you don't care that much about that store) and 99.99% that they will hire you.
Depending on which grocery store you work at, you can make good money if you move up. I work at a Hyvee in Minnesota and the average salary for a department manager is around $60k. If you’re valuable to them, they’ll continue to pay you more.
@@youtubeshadowbannedme Add keywords that retail likes to hear in your application. If you have never worked in retail, literally watch few videos on yt "day in life of retail worker" or something like that and you have experience. Retail is basically same shit everywhere. Stocking boxes, placing labels on boxes, cleaning your aisle, giving change to customer, inspecting goods that came with new delivery. And repeating this thing like a billion times per day. I would recommend practicing something on the side while you work in retail. There are plenty of online resources nowadays. Trust me, you don't want to be stuck in some store for multiple years.
@@youtubeshadowbannedme Maybe that particular store you applied has just finished recruiting new people and at the moment they aren''t looking for new ones. Try a different store, retail is constantly hiring. Try zara, h&m, home depo, other nearby retail stores. Go in a store in person and ask someone there if they are hiring or not. You don't need any experience to work this kinda job. Just present yourself (or bullshit something that looks presentable and believable) and they will hire you.
Grocery store workers r underratedly tough lmao we get payed the bare minimum to do the most boring shit for eight hours at a time. Like don’t get it twisted we will throw hands on the job
THIS. Like the amount of people who think they can’t treat me like shit on the job because they’re the costumer and I’m a teenager. Like babe I’m getting paid 13 dollars an hour I really don’t have time or energy for your shit
Oh boy, you are too funny! I love your advice and and you are so hysterical! I have a grocery store interview in a day and you made me feel a whole lot better. Thank you!
there is no communication between managers and the lower employees. each shift will do different things and not communicate with the others... then night shift usually fucks everything up if they choose to do anything at all. your day will consist (if your a grocery clerk) unloading trucks of pallets, breaking down those pallets onto "U-Boats" mostly store brand stuff atleast my store you will only fill water isle, paper isle and some goya. you will work the freezer (fucking sucks) and will do dairy also. basically the grocery clerk is the worker bee of the store you will work everything when things needs to be done milk, eggs, freezer, store brand goods , water, paper towels/ napkins. store brand soda etc.. you then will load trucks with empty pallets and plastic . you will be showing customers where items are even if its not your designated zone. you will be asked to check the back for something even when you know its not back there or you have nothing back there for the sole purpose of customer service . you will break down boxes and put them in the bale , after the bale gets filled to a certain level you will take wires and create a bale brick to put onto the truck. you will do this every day. same shit everyday. you will eat chicken that comes from the deli or a sandwhich from the deli and some candy maybe or cookies as a snack everyday unless you pack your own lunch. if you work 8 hours you get a half hour lunch you must clock out for. anything below 8 hours you get a 15 min break that you dont need to clock out for. the job fucking sucks and you do more then what your asked to do and are payed for. Its a good first job for highschool kids and maybe someone whos been a fuck up most of their teens / young adult hood and just needs a job to get a start into the workforce. as for a career i couldnt imagine doing this shit day in and day out. schedules are never the same unless youve worked there for a few years and are part of the union. thats the other thing. the guys thats been there 10 years plus and are in the union will never show up and when they do they are lazy, they know they will get a paycheck either way. Its an hourly job so my advice is to work but dont work hard and dont be lazy , just go at a chill pace, take your time breaking down the boxes, take your time going to the bale, take your time putting the boxes in the bale. if you over work yourself they will expect you to work like that all the time.
I work for a super market that has gone all online training. The new staff that have done the online training seem to think they know more then the staff that have worked in the super market for years. We older staff can see all the mistakes but management save money and never really know what is happening on the floor. In person training is so much better.
Real. I find it embarrassing and mundane that my store’s version of training is making every single employee answer multiple-choice questions and play shit mini games on an iPad for 5-10 minutes out of their shifts.
I watched this two weeks ago, applied at 2 different stores and got accepted at the second one. Frankly, this video helped me more than the ones that promise to tell you the "right" answers for an interview question
Jim seems awesome. Grocery stores are a lot like other workplaces. Annoying customers, incompetent managers and unethical intimate workplace relations.
I've been doing research for a big grocery store related documentary I'm working on and this video came up and I was like "what the heck I'll watch it" and this was actually really funny! I love your style of telling stories and jokes! Definitely earned my subscription lol
Yes that happens at pretty much all grocery stores. They fired two people that I know of at Sprouts for being drunk on the job. They fired this random dude I never spoke with who I know of because he approached me in the parking lot and wanted to know if I was interested in buying any pain killers off of him. I said no and I told him not to talk so loud when selling that because he had a super loud voice like he was shouting kinda. Well everyone needs food even the drug addicts.
@@LOVERSANDLIES In my opinion, if your on the influence and can’t do your job, yeah you should definitely be fired. But if you can still function and do your job properly, sure but just don’t get caught with your pants down.
Lmao do more story times! Also i work at sprouts too but i work in the bakery .. love the people there yo! I think they’re the best. Just management is a little shady sometimes bc our store manager is kinda moody so when he’s stressed he stresses everyone out
Can we get a sequel in here? Thinking about working at a Safeway this summer, I swear half the videos are like “it’s pretty great!” and the other half seem to think it’s the worst thing I’ll ever experience. Your humor and editing is great btw keep it up my dude!
If you do work at Safeway don’t become a courtesy clerk you will be a cleaning person from the bathroom -wet spills right along w/bagging -Find a job there you are good at /enjoy and want to come to work each day/night (I used to work at one for 18 years but quit when a supervisor let me know I wouldn’t be anything but a bagger in the long run) Don’t let another person say that to you You do what you’re capable of
I’m not saying you can’t work there but should let you know ahead of time that Safeway is now a part of Albertsons and a lot of the people don’t really enjoy working for them (As their own employees I mean) It has really changed since I left in September of 2018 but the one good thing is that you can now wear jeans (black blue and tan) That went into effect 2017 as part of the dress code
i work at giant eagle in curbside so i am a personal shopper and i really like it so far! we move around alot but some days can be slow but it pays good enough and i get really good hours. my manager is amazing, better than our previous department manager, she basically didn't do anything.
i lokey want to work as a cashier because im only 14 and im waiting till i reach fifteen so i could like get money to save for college because my parents aren't supporting my decision on going to college because they say its a waste of tine but im really passionate about it and if i gotta work to get the money myself then so be it👏✌👍
Been there done that Hated Bagging-Wet Spills Loved Bakery-Sweeping Don’t work at one anymore Do have my bestie/good friends at my old workplace and can’t wait to visit them in August of this year since I now live on the east coast (Used to be employed at Safeway in Oregon)
This is hilarious 😆 I applied for a Grocery Clerk position something to fill in my mornings. I’m not sure if it works like that but hope I can get the job. I’m going to not show them my asshole side until after the hiring 😂 Great video
I’ll tell you as someone who’s been at a grocery store for 11 months now there are 2 types of co workers those who are chill(the cool ones) and those who treat their job like it’s game 7 of the NBA finals
lmao i had no idea this was gonna be some synchronicity shit. perfect timing. yo i just got a job there im in the grocery department. is that mostly what your doing is inventory control/stocking/refacing shit/breaking down boxes and cleaning routines
If you do find a job that you enjoy and want to come to work each day/night tasks to keep your own sanity intact and a best friend to hang out with there (Courtesy Clerk is the worst cause all you’re doing is cleaning besides the bagging of the groceries/carry outs /carts I did that job for 18 years so I know what I’m saying) Good luck
I found what you said to be exactly true. I heard an anouncement while shopping at the store asking for help. I had one interview, and they offered me a job. Now, i am looking forward to running a checkout stand. Also, i will be working in produce. Its going to get me out from behind my desk and working with the public.
@@ShamarJackson9276 Wow!!! Talk about tired legs. I have them. I want to tell the world that in my opinion those who check out our grocery products are the FIREMEN of the Food Supply Chain!!! Much respect for everyone who we see as we purchase our groceries at the local supermarket. Also I have found the entire team at the store to be extremely helpful and nice.
I work at sprouts as well and that cocaine story is the epitome of what it’s like to work at sprouts. But I’m leaving the company within the next month after 4 and a half years
as a worker in the grocery store, I have advice to say to anyone who considers to apply for this job, do your job, sure, you can help your co-worker, but in a way that does not become their habit to exploit you every single time - be nice and try to be friends with them, but set from the start that you are not easy to exploit never ever argue with customers, and don't chit-chat with them more than necessary, you can smile, and you can be friendly but not to the point standing in the middle of the store and talking about this or that, your boss would mark that in their notebook, be careful with customer money and double-check on the computer what items you scanned, sometimes you might double scan the same item, and then you will get angry customer once u print the bill, that is all
Watched this for my Presentation to Metro Head office. It's going to be an interesting ppt. I may lack the real solution but I'll have a great story to tell. It's enough 😂
Got hired in a grocery store today! Interview was terrifying, because im 14 and its my first job. I was one of the only ones who solicited but I love that store so I feel like ill like it
Thought I would give an update for anyone that cares on here. I got the job offer. I am now waiting for my drug test results to come back and for the managers supervisor to call me to set up orientation dates.
I am currently working at a grocery store and might go to warehouse force but it’s an okay job ,do not think your gonna be there forever ,just say temporary,I am working while going to school and excited to one day leave ,the people that I work with are rude ,i am great with the people who has been working there forever and the teens but not the people who has been there for a while,i am just racking my hours
I am much happier working in warehouses than grocery stores. I worked at a Sprouts for six weeks and the job sucked. Store manager really unapproachable, department manager was a micromanager, and my assistant department manager was quite unpleasant towards me. Got way too little hours. I've had overtime in multiple warehouses that pay the same or more per hour than what Sprouts paid me. I kept my mouth shut about what I really thought of those three managers when I worked there. Assistant store manager was a super nice guy. I have it so much better in warehouses. No pressure from any random person walking in the building wanting to buy stuff or talk to me.
I worked at a grocery store and I went for 40 hrs a week to 8 hrs a week. I think it is because they found out i go to a psychiatrist. I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia at 28 and i am on a once monthly shot. I worked at this grocery store when i was 26 and had no problems. I was not on the right medication at the grocery store job and other jobs. I was basically on resperdal a sedating medicine. Sedating tranquilizers are different then non sedating tranquilizers. Eventually you will become to sedated with the tranquilizers and they will lower your medication too much then you will have a relapse. That is why it is important to get on a non sedating medicine if you decide to go back to work.
I'm sure that it totally depends on where you work. I despise being a produce manager in a store that's understaffed; limited to 39 hours and there are days every week where I clock out and volunteer time just to keep up. Their answer, work faster.
I've been involved in the supermarket industry since I was 20 I'm 43 now people are amazed I've been doing this job for years ! Have one pension with my old job which was Pathmark now working on 2nd pension lol 😂 yesss
@@christianguerrero7215 hmm if u stay people get hired than don’t show up I know because I’m doing there hours lol 😂 nobody wants to work and than we deal with angry customers
My neck of the woods I used to parcel pick-up at GIANT in my neck of the woods. It was my first job after I graduating from high school. But from my experience, it was a shitty job - making me do several tests two or three people could do at once, let alone keeping up with the carts, I worked my ass off their minimum wages sucked ass and they never lived up to their promises in raising my pay rate. Even my boss got under my skin and accusing me of patronizing him, while I was trying to be nice. I'm thinking to myself, "wtf?" I quit that job six months later. Overall, to hell with that job, I'm glad I'm out of their. Nowadays, I have a job working at local Middle school, in the food nutrition department. It's hard work but I love it. And the pays worth it too and been working there since 2016 😎
