@@artursfilipovs1722 This goal here was the biggest goal in franchise history hands down imo. Once they got through Pittsburgh I knew it was over. They were destined to win it all. I would put obviously Eller's goal 2nd and Smith-Pelly's goal to tie it just before that in game 5 at 3rd. That early goal in game 7 was huge though, for sure.
@@artursfilipovs1722 Yes, believe me I totally remember that. This is only my perspective but I never had any doubt they were going to get through Tampa. You'd have to ask my friends on that. But yeah if I had had any doubt I guess, the Ovi goal was big. But still nowhere near as big as the goal that FINALLY got them through Pittsburgh.
I've rooted for my Caps since I was 10 years old in 1974. This entire sequence, the Mike Emrick call, the total on air silence from Milbury and McGuire - this will bring tears of joy to me for the rest of my life. Like it did as I watched it just now.
Ahh, popped up in my recommended, and it's heartbreaking for me as a Pens fan, but after it happened, I knew that this team was winning it all. And I'm glad, because I love hockey. Ovi lifting the Cup was more emotional to me than the Joe Sakic to Ray Bourque and they damn well earned it convincingly.
Pens fan here. You guys were so due to beat us. Even though I'm a Pens fan, was glad to see Ovi win a Cup that year. He's a class act and deserved to win one. Even though Pens and Caps are on opposing teams in a fierce rivalry, Pens and Caps fans can agree on the fact that Caps-Pens is the best rivalry in the NHL.
Looking back years later, as a die-hard Pittsburgh Penguins fan, I'm glad it was you guys who dethroned us, if it was going to happen. Not only that, I have a ton of respect for the fact that you kept it going all the way to raising the Stanley Cup after beating us. Alex Ovechkin is quite honestly too damn good to have never raised one in his career. When this goal happened, first it was shock, followed by a little bit of sadness, followed by "go get 'em, Caps." Which they did in 2018. Rivalry aside, I have a ton of respect for your team and fanbase. We should all be blessed to have watched the amazing careers of both Crosby and Ovechkin.
This goal brings back so many emotions from the Caps cup run and this one will definitely be the most special to me. This will never get old and I will never forget it as long as I live. #ALLCAPS
This goal brought tears to my eyes hearing ovechkin scream so loud in that noisy arena knowing they’re about to see a round 3 for the first time in decades. So good!
Pens fan here. So where was this so-called "lack of class" from our fans? I'd say we were pretty respectful, and overall extremely thankful for the efforts from our guys bringing us two Stanley Cups back to back. Most of us even wished Washington well after this. We aren't our counterparts in Philadelphia.
As a Caps fan, I didn't hear anything saying that Pens fans weren't classy after the game. Most Pens fans I encountered were very respectful to the Caps and wished them well in the playoffs.
2:40 - Ovi's reaction. What a RELEIF!You may imagine the mountain weight just come crushing down from his shoulders. So much expectations and so much failure...until now.An epic story ot the Great8.
I love watching him get burned all over the ice. Crosby finally grew up and learned to win and lose with class in recent years, but Letang is still the same whiny punk he always was. On top of all that, even if Murray HAD made the save, he'd be facing a penalty shot because idiot Letang threw his stick.
True, great pass for sure, but the middle was open because Letang went high and wide trying to force offense. Always give up the outside rather than the middle.
TBH, Congrats to the 'caps man, the way the played in that series was amazing!! Holtby did well, Ovi was great, and Kuznetsov.. WOW!! nice work ending Pittsburgh's season. -Patsfan28
Nice OT goal , Finally the curse has been broken and well done caps , glad to see you guys move on to the next round , Ovi looks so happy :) now onto the conference finals vs Tampa .. best of luck Capitals ....go Caps !!
I love how these guys got the win I want to see more championships from the caps before ovi retires and his teammates they always have a awesome team every year I know they can do it again just have faith caps fans I love how they have fun with the game kuzy and ovi always make me laugh with the fun they all have together
So so so happy, that pass from Ovie for the break away gave me the same feeling that I had when Tua let that pass fly to a wide open Smith to win Bama the NCG. I just knew it was game.
Game 4 of Columbus for me...the whole playoffs after that I was very zen for some reason...until 2 minutes left in Game 5 and I started to have difficulty breathing
Destiny begins at :06 when Kuzy pokes the puck away. His efforts on defense lead to offense and he gets the game/series winner. Defense leads to offense!
The Capitals advance to the Eastern Conference Final for the first time since 1998 when they went to the Stanley Cup Final. The Penguins' first playoff series loss since the 2015 NHL Eastern Conference 1st Round against the New York Rangers.
As a Bruins fan who was in a pissed off mood for 24 hours after losing to Tampa, this put me in a good mood. Loved watch Ovi and the boys stick it to the Pens.
Contrary to what you Caps fans believe, we do have class in Pittsburgh. We're not our counterparts in Philadelphia. After you guys beat us, I was pulling for Washington hardcore to win it all. Hey, if you're going to beat the best, it's only fitting you go on to be the best. And you did. Respect.
