Because it hasn’t gotten new content/installments consistently like those other 2 franchises have. This new balance update they are doing is the first thing the game has had in like 6 years. It has all the potential in the world to be right up there with MK and SF imo. Hopefully a good chunk of people check out this new update and it prompts Xbox to green light a sequel
EVO is making it's main event roster purely on estimated entrance number, and KI can't make it. There's a good precedent with UNI making it from a side tournament into main lineup. Don't forget that outside of main games there are gazillion side events happening from Thursday to Saturday.
@@crimsonstride5457Pretty much the only thing this has in common with the original 90's arcade game is the name and the fact that it is a fighting game.
I’m a street fighter player, so I’m new to KI (definitely going to have a go with the new patch though) and being a player in one of the huge games, this Evo has highlighted a few things for me. Mainly KI and marvel 3, KI a game that just from the love of the community has made the devs take notice and update the game after more than 5 years. And marvel, a game that, let’s be honest I’d never getting an official update but through the modding community continues to be updated, and I’ve seen some of those mods and they’re crazy, basically entire new characters. The FGC is the best community in gaming, the love we have for these games is special, we still have people playing 3rd strike, CVS2, Xrd, KI, Marvel 2 etc etc etc. it’s the greatest
I think the issue with Marvel is always going to be licensing. I feel Capcom needs to make a versus game with only characters it owns so it can fully control it.
I really really really really reeeeeeally thought they were going to announce working on a new game....I even said while Watchung it right before Max showed up "I knew it!!" Disappointed but hey maybe a Season 4 with other newer characters with balance patches is good.....maybe there is still hope. Idk
@@navimajora19 I think we'll see another KI, but MS really dropped the ball here. KI love and engagement was really high, at its peak. And while fighting game are a bit niche, it's a large market with some of the most die-hard supporters. KI is a very unique fighter, with a dedicated fan base. A new installment would only make that grow. And with Game Pass, it would be perfect.
Did anyone else old call OG Cinder "The Putty" back in the day because he made the same "Lllbbbttlllbbtttttllll" noise as the puttys in the Power Rangers? Def was a thing in OH, love or hate it....
Bro , to witness the 1st KI come out and losing all interest in gaming then to see this….. AWSOME , I used to recorded games on my VHS and watch them back. I love to see this 💯
I think what made this so entertaining was not only the skill, of course, but the amount of character diversity. The grand finals alone displayed like 5 characters
1st time I ever seen this game was in Las Vegas Excalibur back in Early 90's. 25 Peeps surround the machine . It was so Epic to be part of the 90's Arcade scene ! Marvel Vs capcom2 had the same effect back in Early 2000's !
@@michaelaccoustique7423 I bought the game on Steam a few years ago and wanted to play online but I could barely find a match. A shame since the game looks cool and I played the old KI way back in the day.
@@michaelaccoustique7423 A problem was that the game was released on XBOX in 2013 but it wasn't released on Steam until three years later! By then the hype was already gone so not many people were probably interested in buying it on pc. It's just very unfortunate.
The next Killer Instinct will be massive. Fighting games typically sees its player base dwindle, but KI released during a down period of the Xbox One generation. A sequel to expand on everything that worked well and fix the issues will be GREAT for the franchise moving forward. A think a full price release and dropping the game on Game Pass is significantly better than the previous F2P model. It fractured a player base that wasn't that large considering the circumstances mentioned above. Can't wait to see what Iron Galaxy does next.
@@Play4Vida No it wasn't, besides MS purchased Rare. They didn't take anything as Rare hasn't even worked on Killer Instinct since the 1996 sequel. Rare had completely abandoned the franchise and MS brought it back. KI 2013 is the absolute best version of the game/franchise (including post launch content made by Iron Galaxy)
@@atlien1988 no doofus, Rare was owned by Nintendo but Nintendo has little interest in violent games. How do you think Killer Instinct 64 come about? Please... And yes Microsoft ruined it, they purposely placed a Microsoft director for the game and although one of the original creators of KI was involved he ended up disappointed by the direction Microsoft planned for the game. Go watch his interview and see what he has to say... things were out of his hands... You're just talking out of your az, Even the shty Font in the game looks like something out of Microsoft Word 80's style...
@@Play4Vida dude you're hyping up a game that only two characters had a normal input for their charge/ windkick while everyone else had to charge theirs. Tf do you mean? And then every chick in ki2 was just Janet Jackson. Don't get me wrong, I love that my boi Jago was a monster there, but only wolf had a dash and Glacius lost his metallic t1000 look and got the weird ninja turtle feet. Cinder, Thunder n Riptor are missing what do you mean it was better? And the only place to play outside of the arcades that were dying was on a n64. What world are you living in?
I didn't watch too much of KI tourney's when it was still big, but this was pretty dope to watch. Glad Evo did this. I loved KI back in the day and this was pretty great.
Rare didn't develop the 2013 Xbox One game. Double Helix developed KI 2013 and Iron Galaxy worked on the game after Double Helix was acquired by Amazon.
I used to play KI on SNES back in the days with my bro. Naturally I was excited when KI came out for PC and XBOX later. Now I'm very excited to see the KI community has continued strong ever since. Much love guys.
It's amazing how excellent and satisfying this game is even today, Microsoft/Xbox intends to release a new update for it and I'm really looking forward to it
Because the developer (double helix) was acquired by Google or Amazon if I'm not mistaken then Iron galaxy was hired only for updating the game but they were busy to make a new game so Microsoft has been looking for a studio for a long time but looks like iron galaxy is available again to work full time on KI so there's a chance for a 2024 KI 2 announcement
Unfortunately, he's not sure he can go to Evo for a while, since he's so FGC that his daughter was born around Evo weekend, so he's understandably home with Ripley every year since.
Isn't Microsoft fault lol the developers were acquired by Google or Amazon so there was no one that could develop a sequel... Microsoft tried to hire Arc system and Bandai but guess they couldn't reach an agreement so now Iron galaxy the studio that was hired to update the game seems like they are open to work full time on KI so there's a chance for a 2024 KI 2 announcement
Tbh, it'll probably be another Guity Gear, Under Night and GBVS where the basics of the gameplay, characters, stages, soundtrack, colors and etc remain but we'll probably get new mechanics, two new characters, new story and a huge graphic update if we are getting a new KI game.
