I love when he's balancing on one leg. I also love when he's dusting himself off, mainly because it makes him seem like he's self-aware which is almost beautiful in a way.
I can only imagine. My room-m8 brought a NAO in our apartment and she's been programming it for almost a week now, for a dance of almost 2 minutes :). Well done man :)

Wow this is really good! I work with the NAO robot, especially on animation and body expression, so I'm aware of how tough it is sometimes to get accurate and fluid movement. This is the nextgen version right? We're going to buy one of these soon :) Right now we have a V3.3. Did you find improvements on the way you can animate and balance him on this version? Anyway I guess that it is mainly your own technique and hard work. Great! Keep up on it.
So much attention to detail ... love it! Just a few years ago it was such a big deal when a robot could keep its balance standing on one leg ... and here we have one dancing! Staggering!
Robotics is so advanced and amazing. I remember the days when standing robot, hand(I saw working fingers here), multiple connections, small power source, multitasking and maintaining a balance was considered a piece of science fiction.
The robot has been animated by Valentin, but he's a real robot. Valentin created positions( keyframes) on the NAO robot to make him dance :) But his animations skills (on the robot and on his 3D works) are indeed amazing :)
To clearify: You can make an animation for the robot that it can do. You can have the robot mimic the animation to perform certain movements. That's the animation the description refers to.

It would be cool if you played the film of the robot back at 2x speed, so it could pull off the more difficult moves easier, but this real-time version is jaw-droppingly impressive nonetheless!
It`s more like a fully programmable robot. Like any advanced industrial robot. But this one can talk as well. This one can remember faces and objects and do lots of other cool things. Eventually such a machine can make fully autonomous decisions. But to develop that requires these first steps to improve and improve upon. The more it learns and achieves and get upgrades the more human like it becomes.
Yes, that's what I meant, this people have misunderstood me all along, I am aware he's a real robot, but they think that I'm saying he's animated, when all I meant was his dance moves were only the one's animated.
sorry to burst your bubble but, no it's not ^_^, due to 3 things. 1. My eyes are adept in differentiating reality from animation, since I was an animator myself. 2. No known robot can currently do the things done in the video, even asimo. 3. The strongest point, it is in the description, it was animated by Valentin.
nao is a programmable humanoid robot... if you know how to program it if not it has a preprogrammed movements and capabilities.. this dance steps by nao is new so the buyer must have redesigned its dance steps.
I know there are robots that can walk and even run, but when it comes to a human sized robot "dancing", they mostly just stand in place, bend their knees and sway from side to side. Watch the HRP-4C dancing videos. It moves its arms a lot and gyrates around, but it doesn't move from that one spot. Why not have it move around with the other dancers?
Now we have a robot dog called Spot who can do the moon walk XD I love it Oh wait, but the video "do you love me" from Boston dynamics is a better example of how far robotics have gone.

Are you really terrified ? NAO is quite robust, and he's designed to fall from his height, so it's a bit difficult to broke it incidentally... And even if you broke it, because you've got a maintenance service, you just need to send it to repair, and it come back soon, and working again is possible... Have you seen the video with the ladder ? we can't be terrified to do that :)

But perhaps we are discussing the technical terms here, because if it were, we wouldn't even need keyframes like what you've said, I was referring to the specific term of the word "REAL" that was held against the robot in this video.
And by the way you're not forced to buy extra batteries. Tough yeah it depends of your experimenation: if you want to explore more than one hour and a lot of time per day, it could be useful to have 2...
And I assume you just did a ton of timelines in Choregraphe recording movement for the robot? And then you had to sync all the keyframes with the music? That would certainly take a lot of time.

Hello Armin :) I am the one who made the Persian video, and my friend uploaded it. If you look at my Facebook post and read the description of the video, you can see the reference to TheAmazel and the evolution of dance, and Radiojavan mix. I basically danced with the robot on a Persian music for fun! Some of the description of other channels who shared the video are not accurate. I hope you enjoyed the music. The dance script is available on NAO app cloud, and I of course don't own the credits.
Would it be able to program Nao in such a way that she learns movements by herself? I haven't worked with one yet, so I don't know to what extent she is customisable.
Working on big robots takes very much times and due to their weakness a lot of money too, as they broke often (HRP2...). I think they would be decades before seeing a so long dance on a human sized robots. (nuless some newcomers better than prototypes arises...)
