It was 1948...it literally was the best the special effects of the day could do. Then George Reeves was put on wires in front of rear projection sky for "The Adventures of Superman" in the 1950's. It wasn't until 1978, that Christopher Reeve's Superman convinced the world that "(we'd) believe a man could fly," in the first convincing flying man scenes in "Superman The Movie."

@@les4767 one of the main reasons Reeves was selected for the role was how natural he looked flying when tied up in all those cables. Imagine the core strength necessary to do all that

@@mad.allegra.garcia Absolutely. Reeve really put in the effort to make his flying look like he was producing it. Actually "banking" in the turns and using his arms to project strength and grace while the riggers ran him around over the soundstage.

Actually, "Up, up and away" was coined by Bud Colyer on the "Superman" radio show first and then used in the Fleischer cartoons before the Kirk Alyn serials.

To this day, the 1978 reveal of Superman to the world when he saves Lois and the Helicopter gives me chills.... that is the power of the Man of Steel and John Williams.

I was there and it was amazing being in the movie theater. Everyone cheered for Superman when he saved Lois and grabbed he falling helicopter. However, the scene prior to that where Father Crystal Jor-El completes his education in the Fortress of Solitude and you get that scene where Marlon Brando's face becomes a crystal mask that then turns around so you can see out it's right eyehole to behold Superman in his suit for the first time was spine tingling. Then, when he flew towards the camera and banked into a turn to zip past the screen....I'm not kidding...everyone applauded the first time a man convincingly flew in a movie. It was magical.

@@tubber2947 It's not an opinion - it's a fact. Christopher Reeve simply embodies Superman. He brought the silly Clark Kent to perfection, and the best thing - he balanced both the alter-ego's in a way nobody else did. I bet you won't find an actor topping that one anytime soon.

Henry Cavill and Brandon Routh Superman are the Most Underrated, both of them in Superman are amazing In Man of Steel, we are able to see a energetic youth who feels a bit of bad for his uniqueness but when discovers his origin, really enjoys it Superman Returns had a really amazing scrip, acting performances and soundtrack, but audience weren't interested, don't know why However, Tyler Hoechlin Superman is also good, but is a bit of overrated

And his movies have basically been flops ever since he started wearing alien Yoga Pants instead of the actual Superhero costume he wore for almost one hundred successful years in the comics, y'know, you've seen it, the with the trunks on the outside like the strong and bold character he used to be. Lol, back when Superman was the first and best Superhero. I wonder if there is a correlation there? :-D
