Testament was my main in AC+R, and their glow-up in Strive really depicts the evolution in my own tastes : I love feminine-looking and ambiguous characters.
@@JKorderothe whole point is that they’re supposed to be androgynous and that the reworked testament represents how they let go of their grudge for humanity and became healthier 💀
It's cool they're back. I prefer the old version though, it made them look more recognizable as "that creepy scythe character", like Yami Iori from KOF.
Not super familiar with the lore but I think this design is a little more fitting from what I do know. Both are really cool, they give off entirely different vibes.

I think their new design really does their androgynous look better (daisuke himself wanted Testament to be like that). Switching between the english and japanese dub, I could either see them as either a metal head dude or a goth girl.
@@strotch7753 Why would I be happy about him showing less skin? lol I don't know why you brought that up. As to missing link, that's barely legible pixel art. I just don't want my androgynous husbando to become a full on waifu. He should at least still look a bit menacing and have some muscle. He's 100% fem now.
Well… Now the character looks like a girl. The nicest thing about the andrigynous looking is having doubt, not being able to guess the gender. Now it looks kinda obvious.
@@AzpecTProductionz Actually they are kind of right, Testament was always ambiguously gendered in Japan, they were only referred to explicitly as male in the English translation.
At least the eng voice do something for the character. ( At least...). Thanks for this evolution videos, is cool to see directly the comparition from old games. I enjoy it.
I never seen this guy in my life, but till this year, and when I saw him, I gotta be honest I officially love this guy and he is now my favorite character of guilty gear I love this guy.
ohhh shit i forgot that testiments voice in the first game was distorted I was wondering why their new voice was distorted when the second version wasnt i for got about the first
Canonically Testament is "they/them" now. Easy mistake to make, it was only mentioned in a few articles when Testament was announced and people saw the androgynous design.
While some people may prefer the older design, I feel like the "scythe edgelord" trope is too overdone... Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but the new design has a carefree energy that subverts the trope and makes them stand out. This style of anime fighting game allows characters to be very expressive, it's nice when there's something for everybody in the character selection screen (fun, badass, stylish, absurd, sexy, mysterious...) Design matters more than competitive viability for most people anyway, so why not go all out on making them unique?
Everything in GG Strive looks so fucking polished and well animated, it shows how expressive 2d fighting games can be, I'll take this over bland/muted/badly animated realism any day
Everything else aside, the cool badass femme fatale is just as overdone. Im not weighing in on which is better, but they did just exchange one overused trope character for another overused trope character....

They can still be considered goth tbh And don’t even come for me because I’m pretty sure most if not all of the people arguing that they aren’t goth aren’t even goth.
I prefer the old model he have more personality compared to the new one where they just effeminate him but the character just doesn’t have any personality whatsoever it just relies on the fact that it uses a female body mold and rigs without the boobs I was hoping to see at least the movement rigs have a certain uniqueness to them but its just a female standard rigs which is disappointing
not a fan of the re-design, they made him look too much like some little whimp, i have nothing against androgynous designs, older Testament design was a bit like that but he still looked manly, while this new design can pass for a little girl, when first saw the thumbnail of the reveal and didnt see exactly who's the new character, i was thinking, oh cool it's a new female character....wait....that's Testament?? what....
I wonder why they decided to go the whole graceful route with them. Maybe it juxtaposes nicely with all of the hell things and blood. Maybe they felt the old aesthetic was too on-the-nose. Eh idk
I'm just a casual guilty gear player, I admit I didn't follow the game as much but Testament always been my favorite character. When I saw the new guilty gear, the clueless me really thought that's Testament's sister or something lol His voice obviously female. At least english dub making more sense. But I'm not complaining about them thighs tho😚
The new design is kinda cool but it feels soo much off comparing to the old one 💔 they buffed his thighs soo much he looks more like a goth girl 😂💔 imagine if he is still as tall,slim and kinda muscular as before 😭😭😭 People Would have screamed HOLY SHIT TESTAMENT IS BACK but most testament reactions are like WOW WHO IS SHE… WAIT TESTAMENT ?! lol
Agreed. I'm down with androgynous Testament, but they turned Testament into just a flat chested girl. Way too feminine. Also the personality has changed way too much. As much as I want to see him happy, this is too jarring... he's unrecognizable aside from the scythe.
im a fan of the older design, i like they had the whole masc but fem goth baddie vibes…. but the new design literally stripes them of that…. masc they/them erasure damn
