If you have ever worn one of these costumes - they are EXACTLY what the former worker says they are - hot, cumbersome and almost impossible to see out of - there are usually "handlers" that go along with costumed characters in other parks [not familiar with Disney] that help them "see" kids in the peripheral or to keep the kids in control when they get out of hand. It is so hard to keep in character when you are carrying around 40 -60 lbs of extra weight, in heat, and kids are running at you, grabbing and screaming. This family is just looking for a handout. Mom's crocodile tears made me laugh. No one wants to see their kids hurt, but I have had our kids *ignored* by characters before, you simply have to wait YOUR turn. They do their best to get to EVERYONE!
GTFO I worked here and let me tell you how fucken HOT these costumes get! The people in these suits sometimes pass out or throw up in them. That's why you almost ALWAYS see a Disney Co-Worker near them in case that happens. It's sometimes hard to keep it together and tell what or who is next to you.
Yeah I was seeing on another video this story and I was like “if I was a character I’d be SO HUGGY with the sweethearts!!^^.. tho I’d have to either have a better or cleaner face if I were to play a normal character so I’d probably have to be a suit character.. Which wouldn’t be good on super hot days since I’m NEVER hydrated.. annddd I don’t wanna end up puking in my costume like the other guy (from another story I heard).. and Disney land is very strict..^^’..” so yeah.. XD there’s my conversation to myself basically discouraging myself with reasons why I CANT work at Disneyland😅
When I was a kid, I was obsessed with filling out my character autograph book, and so no matter the character, at Disney Land/World, I would run up to them and wait with the other kids surrounding them. So many times would kids next to me get their autograph, but I am overlooked. I wasn't shocked though as, even as a child, I saw how many of us there were, and saw other kids look disappointed after the character is led away by a cast member before they got a chance for attention too. My mum even said once, if I remember correctly, that the character has a very busy job visiting all of the kids in the park, and so I shouldn't take it to heart. I never took it to heart. I have a very vivid memory of dressing as Woody, and seeing him, and being the last to get an autograph from him and a pat on the head, whilst the child next to me threw a tantrum. I was shocked and disturbed. At first I thought he hurt himself, but then his mum and dead remarked about how rude Woody was. Suddenly, I felt bad for getting that autograph and pat on the head. No kid should have to feel that way. Years later I even further acknowledged that my visits were always during summer. The heat must make it difficult to stay in the suit for too long, and cast members know that some kids are gonna have to go without an autograph or hug, otherwise that character would just be in the same spot throughout the day as more and more people arrive. it must be difficult. Also, that the people in the suits surely can;t see or hear well in those sweat filled monstrosities. I cannot believe some parents try to get a quick buck from lawsuits just because their kid didn't get attention from a person in a suit in a Disney Park. Grow up and stop using your kids and racism claims for sympathy, attention, and money.
I try to look at things from both sides to get a fair idea and honestly it's a tricky matter because the actions of the characters are so open to misinterpretation to the point that it's basically unfalsifiable to say that they're being racist; you can't prove that they are being racist but you also can't prove that they're not. I'm the kind of guy that hates all kinds of racism and feel that we need to grow past it but at the same time I also realise that it's easy for victims of racism to become paranoid and start seeing it everywhere they look. My take is simply this: while I can forgive the woman in the video for reading the situation the way she did I don't think she should've filed a lawsuit when the evidence given is pretty open to misinterpretation. RU-vid comments being what they are I'm sure someone will label me a racist for coming to this conclusion but honestly I'm just someone who thinks evidence needs to take priority over emotion. If the characters were being racist then get the evidence to prove that they have a reason to act that way, otherwise you run the risk of everyone seeing you as a false victim trying to get quick and easy compensation.
You have very clearly not experienced racism and yet you feel the right to dismiss other people's very real experiences with it by self-righteously talking down on them for expressing their frustrations/hurt. People do not make fake claims of racism for sympathy or attention, that's absurd. It's a completely humiliating and dehumanizing experience so be glad you don't know how it feels, although it sounds like it would do you some good considering how much empathy and life experience you clearly lack.
@@Sara-jy2bt people do. Happens a lot more than you think. The world isn’t cupcakes and rainbows where everyone always has best Intentions. You can’t say wether this person has experience racism or not, because you don’t know them.
That was wonderful!! Thank you. The Entitlement is outrageous. She was acting as if only her child was special When all the children in Disneyland are.
Than if the character gets too touchy-feely he'll get sued. Can't win nowadays. God if that mother can't handle something like this what's she going to do when something of significance happens to her or her children? What a pea brain.
Angie2343 not technically disney lol. Yes disney has the rights to it but even then you don’t see the characters out much. Plus it was an experiment to see if they could get an older audience to enjoy a cartoon reality medley
Phil TU He was in trouble for touching a 4 year old African American. Disneyland is supposed to be a magical place for children, right? The employee was being racist to the child because the kid was black. I'm not trying to be racist either.
DoomTube my point was he maybe thought he was going to be accused of assault or something if he touched kids. Its the society we live in now. Its 15 years since I've been to Disney, so I don't know how its run these days. It seem like everyone is quick to shout racism about the smallest thing. I'm not saying racism is ok, just for the record.
The family is angry about a cast member not hugging their african-american child. Honestly it just sounds like another case of black people calling everyone racist. They appear to be embellishing the story a little to get more attention. Yes, what the former character said was that there is LIMITED vision, and the costumes range to be up to 40 pounds. Last time I checked, it was HOT in California. The character could've been hot and couldn't have been thinking straight. That doesn't mean you file a lawsuit against a million-dollar company. It was one character. Get a picture with Mickey and leave.
They wouldn't win anything more than an apology and maybe a free trip. Disney has way more power than these people could ever estimate. At most they'd also get the actor fired, which, if it truly is racism, s/he deserved.
When I was that kid’s age, I didn’t get hugged much either. I was going through puberty at that age. However, they would hug on my sister, who was a toddler at that time. When kids reach a certain age, the characters won’t love on them as much because it’s seen as weird. That’s when the characters start to pose with them, like back to back with their arms crossed or arm in arm.
While none of us were actually there to witness what happened it is very plausible that the character didn't see the movement for the hugs from the kids. As someone who spoke to a character performer for Disney she told me that those suits the White Rabbit, Mickey, Pluto, etc wear are very limited in terms of eye site. She described it as "being blindfolded and then pushed out in a crowd to walk around to the best of your ability." Not only that, but as someone who goes to Disneyland a lot I see these characters absolutely SWARMED by children and their parents. Their focus is on multiple things at once so while the mother claims that her children were right in front of him, his eye sight could've been on the other child who walked up to him next. You can't see his eyes therefore you don't know what he saw. They have to make a memorable memory for that child but when there is a bunch of kids wanting attention from the character you mind of have to move focus a lot to get to everyone. Mistakes like this happen, it's happened to me a few times but I always know that it's because they have a lot to focus on and are trying to get to everyone that wants to see them. You shouldn't take it personal. Obviously he posed for pictures with the kids and generally people take their picture and then leave so he probably wasn't expecting the hugs afterwards and moved focus to the next kid in line to get through everyone there that wanted a picture. Plus, sometimes kids will walk up to the characters randomly and hug them even if they're interacting with another kid so that could've also happened. Sorry for the long comment but I feel this is more what happened than an actual race issue. I would agree that it was a race issue if he hadn't posed for the pictures with them at all and brushed the family off completely but since he did I'm more willing to believe that there was a line or group there to meet him and he was trying to get to everyone with no intention of hurting anyone.
already have excuses line up show you really how much you fail to even listen to what the lady said base of tim claim he siad htey were in front of them... therefore he shouldn't of not seen it
Mandi P i know im from the future compared to u, but have u seen the video when the rabbit guy was getting his tail tugged and easily saw and followed the girl not to mention grab her like nothing? 😅
I went to Disneyland 2 weeks ago some characters don't see you - sometimes they are in a hurry to go do something else - they are only out only 20 min- 40 min the most outside every hour
this little dude sitting here a whole like 10 years old saying "I just feel angry and don't wanna see another rabbit again." this is what happens when you tell a whole generation of parents that they're victims
"I don't want to see another rabbit again." Just because the White Rabbit was acting "racist", doesn't mean Roger Rabbit or Oswald are gonna threat you with a knife. I should know, I use to work as Roger. (Not that I don't now....)
Haha these people clearly only wanted money. People always jump on racism as their first explanation... couldn't that possibly make them racist? :O We have no clue what ethnicity the person in the costume is and probably never will. Being under contract, the actors aren't allowed to reveal who they truly are.
ANGEL JIMENEZ we don't all do that. Not all black people do that. And you need to realize sometimes people in those costumes actually do that stuff cause of racism. But of course it's disney. Disney should never be blamed
AbsoluteMAL no bitch it's not like that at all. How do you expect a black person to trust a white person after the Jim Crow law and slavery? And they were in a line matter of fact the front so why weren't they hugged if they were in the front please answer my question you whiter piece of shit
Kay Harris Wow, you've sure got me stumped there with that whole slavery argument. How could anyone possibly trust white people considering the ones alive today had such a huge part in enslaving black people?! ..So what race is the person in the costume? I'd love to hear your answer you simpleminded pubic hair. :)
Jay Smith The world would be better off if you learned proper literacy. There was so much wrong with what you typed that it's not even worth making fun of it. :')
as a character performer I have not hugged or held a child because they seemed rowdy or heard them say they wanted to harm a character. not saying this one instance is not true but please keep in mind when you and your family go to theme parks and see characters that they can hear and see more than you think. we are constantly on the look out for your enjoyment and our safety.
For real. Everyone anymore pulls the racist card on anything. Maybe if they worked as a character in one of those hard-to-see and fuming hot costumes, they’d know that nobody is always gonna get their way.
There SHOULD BE Disney escorts to accommodate characters in case of this happening again, not only for the guests, but also for the protection of the workers.
they got photos with the characters so they did send some time with them i have worked as a character before not disney but yeah you cant see any thing. the things people will do wow. if you all ready had you turn ( photo) then it the next person turn. racism no way..
Racism isn't always a factor, I would say the lawsuit and money is the driving factor here, but what do I know, I wasn't there. Why not just file a complaint when not satisfied by a business and leave it at that? Why do you need a huge payout?
Working in the amusement park industry I have noticed patterns with people. The one problem I deal with a lot is people not following the rules and they get mad at me when I enforce them. I don't know why, but when I have an African American family argue with me somehow race gets involved and they start calling me a racist. It confuses me because all I ask is for them to follow the rules, like putting on shoes before they get on a ride. IDK I don't make the rules I'm just enforcing them.
Disneyland needs to post “Has the right to refuse service to anyone” All I hear is that Victim mentality! I bet you if Disney gave them free passes, they’d stroll their freeloading asses all over the park without hesitation!
You gotta know the facts You can't really escape reality with laws even Jesus Christ is the perfect man and kids have been around Him And people with cast members in those suits aren't perfect Because they will say bad language to try to introduce yourself Even when you're a kid Before Even you would Know the Truth behind that and what's true in reality.🤔
With how many fake assault lawsuits there have been in just touching people, it's no shock that the characters don't wanna touch anyone. It's damned if you do, damned if you don't now.
He didn't hug my child cause if racism! Bro just admit you want that sweet precious dough, maybe he didnt wanna get too touchy with the kids, maybe he hugged them before and didn't wanna hug them a second time and the other kids were also hugged only one time, idk even maybe the dude behind the suit is black
I don't believe that the employee was being racist there clearly had to be a misinterpretation, and the reporters need to hear that persons side of the story as well. But because Disney performers follow a policy in which they are not allowed to reveal which character they portray, we'll never know the other side of the story so I don't feel sorry for that family AT all
I was in the Winnie the Pooh costume and I can tell you that the visibility is very limited. I used to walk extra slow so I would not fall. You can easily miss someone trying to get your attention, even directly in front. You can't make these nonsense and meaningless claims until you have been inside a costume
People have no idea how hot it is in those costumes!! You can barely see straight and the head gear is heavy as hell and not to mention you can barely hear. That’s why you need helpers to guide you.
There's always a problem with the preformer or preformers who play this particular character. This case, and also a few years back there was another one where the character spoke to guests and swore at them.
Walt Disney would be so disappointed with these modern day attraction staff he even mentioned on his documentary that racist legacy is always intolerable towards the public.
I was there January 23'. I witnessed 2 separate occasions where white kids were completely shunned by cast members. They just got on with their day and didnt bitch and moan. They will grow up knowing that some shit happens and things may not always go as planned. It's character building.
The white rabbit has caused problems for them (assuming it's the same person portraying the character). However, you can't deny that there's hundreds of kids at Disneyland, you can't give attention to all of them. These kids got pictures, maybe the white and Asian kids got hugs and didn't get pictures. Pardon my own moment of racism, but black people have built a reputation of jumping to conclusions before gaining all the facts as well, so credibility is a bit thin on all sides of the story.
that's really bull because if you want to hug the characters just hug them most of the time they dont hear you and its hard to see in those masks unless its a character without full suit. Plus they dont normal go for older kids in fact they try to hug me when i went to Disney I didn't really wanted to be bothered by them even though I was 10 at the time. I was more in it for the rides. If you want to hug them go up to them and hug them they will have to hug you back.
Moms:HE IGNORED MY KID BECAUSE HES BLACK all the said kids: 13 years old👁👄👁 (Point is they concentrate on youbg kids and if you are visibly older ALSO being in front dosent mean anything because they try to do a full circle if bit the kids at the side would complain
I don't even understand. If these performers were outta their costumes touching / hugging kids, people be offended and say their kids being molested. But if the performers in the costume, its like they want their kids to be molested. Like weird going to a lawyer saying a Disneyland character wouldn't touch your kid.
Most of the time the character has a lot of children to acknowledge and discombobulated, it's best to ask the mascot handler to get the cast members attention.
Oh my gosh you know how many characters I haven't met because they had to move on to something else?! A lot! Get over it! It happens all the time! Bunch of money grubbing pigs! : *edit* I strongly suggest that you look deeper into the job of being a character at Disneyland. Your vision is highly limited and it is extremely difficult to see. I say this as a pass holder. Things like a character having to move on are a part of the job. You can try to flag them down all you want but they won’t stop for a picture if they have to go into what’s called backstage. They have to keep moving. There are other chances and other locations to see characters as they come out more than once a day. Don’t be angry at the lost chance, because another one will come. I strongly believe that this family has no knowledge of how the character operate. If they miss you, it is never meant to hurt you, but to tell you that it’s time for the next person to come along. Those characters still have a job to do. I recommend anyone who wants to meet a certain character to download the disneyland app and check places to see characters at a certain time. Remember, these employees are here to make your experience magical. Do not treat them with disrespect or immaturity.
I just wonder why the parents waited and didn't just go up to the character and say 'my child wants a hug'. It happened to me at disney when I was a child. There were lots of children and I was quite shy so I didn't push myself to the front. I just kept following the character waiting to be noticed and eventually an adult (can't remember if it was my parents or a stranger) pointed me out to the character and he gave me a hug and signed my autograph book. The person wasn't ignoring me they were in a costume and just didn't see me and I didn't grab them or shout at them I just stood and waited. As I followed the character I felt I was being ignored but from the persons actions after I could tell that he just hadn't seen me. He was high-fiving and shaking children's hands and children ran and hugged him. I was the only one where he initiated the hug. Probably because he felt bad that he had missed me.
Oh their explanations don’t add up? So you think they can somehow see next to them even though there is clearly only two holes facing forward? Can’t just cry your way through every minor situation and expect empathy.
Whether it was misinterpreted or not, racism still hurts. Disneyland needs to fire the white supremacist for only hugging white and Asian people instead of black people.
Bad Disney characters in costumes, the way they are doing bad stuff on family and children with racial discrimination, and it's sad. We all have mix races in our blood and soul from our families and we should never be discriminated forever.
Yeah I hope this family got counter sued for BS accusations and want something free. Even being told the difficulties of having those giant suits on she is not “buying it” yeah cuz she will get nothing free from that outcome and has wasted everyone’s time .
Disney needs to either fire these people or they need to be boycotted. Passes will NOT solve this issue. If they actually cared they would have actually fired those people. So the answer is simple, boycott disney. Cancel them, until the issue is resolved.
