Sigh, I agree with him. But what can we do when teachers' compensations and benefits remains so low. Such career can't attract a lot of talents. Also our previous government kept moving back and forth with languages. I can understand why he is so frustrated.

I have great respect for Mr. Chakravarthy. He was the headmaster in Setapak HIgh School when i was doing my form six there. High standard of discipline. No student dare mess around. In the 1970s & 80s if a school had high disciplinary problem, Mr.Chakra will be transferred there. Chakravarthy means emperor & he was exactly what his name meant. Kudos to you sir!

He has direct point after school parents sent their children to tuition class what a waste of money and time making the teachers at primary and secondary not motivated to teach the subjects very well because they too cooperated with each another to earn more extra money that's the bottom rock total Waste of time and burdening our children!!! Not need teachers at school anymore as it a waste Rakyat TAX MONEY just sent to tuition for education!!!! We need more teacher who are dedicated to their principle to teach in school for better bright for our children.

The ex principle is right. He reminds of of my english teacher/principle very dedicated. Whom had my english as good as most english speaking people. No tuition was required. Love you, sir.

Kid's study in school 6 hrs a day but don't get good results.... Then we send them tuition for 1.5 hour 3 time a week, they score A.... Best thing it's the same school teachers so what are they teaching in school.....

he is so very right about teaching science at very tender age. i was very surprised that my son is learning something so steep at so early. i had to explain to him the concept of gravity in ways the book wasn't able to explain. to him it was more of memorizing than actually understanding how the world works

Yes, i agree with him. Two major reasons why Finland has the best education system are because one, students are only required to do less homeworks as they focus more on the children's development and social skills with others and two, quality of the teachers they have. How strict all the teachers in Finland must undergo trainings and interviews before even becoming a qualified teacher

School nowadays dah x seronok like before. When kids happy they produced good result. May be not in every subject but the one that they love. Dulu kids ada time to play everyday. Then otak pun cerdas sbb badan cergas. Teachers dulu2 mmg father and mother figure to the pupils.... we respect them even kami nakal pun....

maslee should start as a kindergarten teacher, then a primary school teacher. only then will he understand how and why education in malaysia is not up to the expectation of the education ministry. need not too say why but experience is the best teacher itself. thank you mr. chakra, if you can't open their hearts, then at least you speak your heart out which we will remember forever.

Very true! Our education quality has gone down to the drain since 1980. The teachers then were stern yet very intellectual, disciplined & dedicated. Common to hear students now feedback to parents that their teachers always absent in their class or don't know what the hell they are teaching. English lessons with wrong pronunciations & grammar mistakes. Maths cannot solve. Need to go back & check. The best part of all, never heard of racist teachers, only teachers' pets (teachers' favourite students) back then.

As a student totally agree with him. Teachers nowadays just makan gaji buta. Kelas pun tak masuk, kerja rumah tak tanda, ajar pun macam tak ajar semua suruh salin nota je. When I entered secondary school i only relied on tuitions that i go to and monthly fees are really high i mean at least rm80 per subject and then its outside of school hours. I might as well go to private schools and save my time. And also I really dont get the point of having a pk text book, sivik, then moral that we gotta hafal 36 nilai that will be ‘life changing’ to us and then sejarah that teaches us moral values and rational thinking. Moreover sejarah should be in dwi bahasa, not everyone of us have bm as our main language so we suffer for sejarah not only that accounts also the same, in secondary we learn accounting in malay then we further our studies in private it’ll be in english and then students kelam kabut.

Parents are to be blamed big time. Nowadays parents and grandparents sayang anak cucu macam emas. All pampered like prince and princess. When a good teacher is stern to their child, they want to complaint, want to sue. When teacher just buta-buta teach because takut nanti kena complaint or sue, parents make a fuss and complaint juga... these days the new gen kids BIADAP. Intolerence with anybody. Lim Goh Tong did not even have HighSchool education. Jack ma did not have the chance to go to school. All tgose made it because they had grit. They learn and perform. They did not wait for government or parents to provide this provide that.

Sir..I salute you. You spoke your mind because you are concerned as we are about the declining state of education in this country. First of all SK schools are now turning of to be more like religious schools. About 13 periods for religious studies per week and only about 6 periods for maths! I agree with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir, the whole education system should be rewamped. Students must have a good foundation in mathematics in primary school before heading on to secondary schools. Many primary kids don't even memorise their time tables by year 6. If they don't memorise the tables they wouldn't be able to do division!..How can they be good in maths then?

The problem is this: 1) not educated and passionate teachers 2) All I see is teachers trying to be popular by social media 3) Parents themselves, has no values, has no responsibility...all let go to the teachers....then when prob all point fingers to teachers... Yeah well parents nowadays sucks even more! Now if u do not teach science at primary like this old principle said... When are they gonna fckg learn? U think people can become engineers, scientist or etc if they have not been expose at an early age? And kids nowadays are spoiled to the very core... And one more thing, majority of the teachers don't want to learn new things... I've been teaching robotics to secondary school teachers and most of them does not have the fire anymore

Malaysia is a multi-racial country, but the official religion is Islam and majority are muslim. It cannot be denied. Malaysia, just like Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and the countries in Indo-China are originated from the continent called the Malay Archipelago where the Malay language were widely used among all races and ethnics until today. In Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and part of Indo-China the language is called Bahasa Melayu, while in Indonesia it is called Bahasa Melayu Indonesia. In Indonesia the population of all races and ethnics speak only in Bahasa Melayu Indonesia, that is why Indonesians are united. They are proud of the language. Bahasa Melayu Indonesia doesn't make Indonesia backward, perhaps they are now seen very advance and modernised. While in Malaysia there are disunity among races because the government failed to implement a policy requiring its own people to speak Bahasa Melayu, while children at younger age were free to study in a non national schools which have other languages as medium of instructions. Malaysia should implement a law that strictly requires children of all races to start their school life in a national language schools with Bahasa Melayu as the medium of instructions just like Indonesia. Only then children of all races will start schooling under one roof, tend to minggle with one another at younger age, when they grow older they understand each other, thus that will unite all races. The Malay, pribumi and Islamic, party should work with a party that fight for the interest of Islam, the Malays and the pribumi so that when they acquired the strength, they are able to implement children to start schooling to only one national schools while schools of other languages should be phased out replace by national language schools. Children who wish to learn in the schools of their mother tounge language may go to such private schools after national school hours, just like the muslim children study Islamic knowledge after national school hours in private religious schools or pondok. Only by implimenting this policy, we could see Malaysians will be united. While the bahasa Melayu Nusantara is preserved, the official religion Islam is protected and the Malays and pribumi interests are secured while other races are free to preach their own religion and free to acquire wealth in Malaysia. Malays and pribumis of today are the true descendents of their great parents originated since the ancient time of the Malay Archipelago. No doubt about it. Malaysia should buck up the ancient history of the Malay Archipelago in schools especially touching on the reign of the Malay Sultanate and the Malay pribumi warriors who fought the colonisers. All races should support this move if they are truly Malaysians. May Almighty Allah swt bless Malaysia. Ameen.

I totally agree with what the ex principal saying.Now days student in gov school always have homework everyday for primary school.If moving forward need to improvise school system follow what the good things about education in overseas.Sebelum ni kate nak ada perubahan dlm sekolah kena la ambil advantage of it.Jgn la jadi macam MOH tak de kajian langsung cakap byk dan tak de improvement dari segi staffing,pesakit dan lain2 lagi termadus parking.Kalau macam ni la kerajaan baru sama jer buat ape jadi menteri tak buat kajian asyik nak hentam kerajaan lama.Maju kehadapan la new minister & ambil perhatian pada pengalaman orang lama2 dan improve new education teaching & method takkan dah lupa kot dulu nak mcm tu.

I started school at 1996. Even at that time, Memorize to get As was my way to go. And forget as soon as i finished exam papers. Until my my uni days. Now that im working, i feel like i want to go back to school so that i can really learn what i learnt. So i guess our education system has failed long long time ago.

Students in primary schools from year 2 to 7 in and high schools from year 8 to 12 in Western Australia rarely had homework. High school students here Western Australia only learn 5 subjects before opting to go university. In Malaysia we study at least 10 subjects then sit for SPM. Modern Maths, Additional Maths, 3 science subjects, BM, English, History, Geography, Arts or Islamic Study. Some even took 18 subjects and got full 18 A1s some time ago in Johor!!! Singapore educational systems took after the US systems and British. Almost no pressure studying in Australia, as students can leave school after finishing Year 11 at 16 years-old to work or do apprenticeship. No pressure for both parents and students.

Mr.Chakaravathy voice out the truth however it is akind to blowing trumpet at deaf ears.

It will take time to arrange a better education system. But if we want students to be smart and intelligent, don't make it easy for them to get A's. That will only make it easier to get good results but at a low quality level like what we have now.

He's right. You really need to teach values and change the school culture. I went to SJK is primary, and an SMK in secondary. You can really tell who are SK and who are SJK then. The biggest tell: part time job for some, our grades, command in english, and our 'homework notebook'.

No point in telling these clowns they are not there to improve any.

This education system only tests your memory, not your understanding. Forced to learn so many subjects, and most of the time have no idea how we can actually apply that knowledge in daily life. So all we really do is just memorize all this data and algorithms and regurgitate it on the test paper. Then schools set quotas that target certain students to get straight As especially in spm. On top of that we don't even have enough break times. Like in Finland they have breaks frequently because they understand that the brain cannot continuously work otherwise it will be drained out and there would be no more use of learning like that. The brain needs to rest and relax. But the problem is our education system is only making our brains stressed and worn out! Students are sleep deprived, forced to do so much homework and forced to bring so many books to school, carrying such heavy bags . Homework is practically no point as well. Students would just find some source to copy it from blindly at home or the next morning in school without truly understanding so long as they get the work done just to avoid being punished. You can only know if students truly understand if the teacher is with them and supervising them, then the lesson would be fruitful. And if we're going to teach students so many things, at least tell students why that knowledge is important, and how it can be applied to our lives. If not, there's truly no point. Again, I think that the fact that we have so many subjects and we students are pressured to score that A, despite not really applying most of the what the subject teaches in our lives, shows that something is inherently wrong with this. Should teach for understanding, not test scores, and don't teach too many things unless you can prove that all that information is truly useful and needed in our lives. Also, tolerance towards students' mental capacity is important, making students stressed with all those books to memorize and all that pressure to cope with really is bad.

Why our education can’t be great like our public healthcare? i send my son to chinese independent school (in Sibu), and many asking “how about his pendidikan islam?” for me, religion should be teaching by self-example, moral value, and self interest, not by a doctrin. the reason i send my son there because i want him to embrace the diverse culture and be tolerant.

I would have agree with him especially the part that he is teaching the minister how to educate. We really need people with the passion and qualifications to match the position. How can the ministry understand the grassroot pain while they are sitting on Mount Olympus?? Ie if the transport minister does not drive to work how would he understands the pain of those who do??

450 000 teachers rice bowl depend on the current system. Don't condemn...give solutions and suggetions. we cannot change everything in one day. Do research n give the findings to them.

I feel u mr! Thanks for voicing it out. I am a parent of a standard one n three children. They took a whole lot of book to school every single day! And parents need to rake out 50 ringgit to rent a locker in school.

My complain about the current education system is the unnecessary homework. I understand certain subjects like Math needs repetition to be effective but most of the time students are burdened with too much workload and as a result they don't even have the time to study. Not to mention how children are being threatened by how shameful and tragic their exam's results day would be, in comparison to their friends etc. LEARNING IS INDIVIDUAL. What's so hard to understand? Most of the teachers esp. female Malay teachers are the worst. Coming in as a teacher simply to work as a public servant so they can easily make loans. Plus their unstable emotions is really traumatic to young students.

If tutions were banned in the country, would students start paying attention because they know there is only school time to study? I am a student and believe me, i hate the idea of tutions. Why? Because you don't go there to understand a subject better, you go there to get better marks. And if students can't get good grades without tution, what is the point of school in the first place!?!
