Exiled Russian oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky discusses President Vladimir Putin's mindset and what his remaining options are in the war against Ukraine. #CNN #News
So true and definitely the root of all our problems and issues. The scarcity view will result in the end of the world, sooner rather than later, I’m afraid.
Why is the US worried Russia will capture the Ukraine Biolabs if there's no gain of function research? Is the US worried Russians might steal a new flu vaccine?

@@user-vr6ie2wv3x I don't know why you russian's reply in that gobbledegook when you clearly understand what's written in the original comment. It makes you look like a coward who's only brave enough to talk back, as long as the person you're talking back to doesn't understand you. Hiding behind ambiguity like the weak and pathetic sheep you have proven yourselves to be. To answer your quiet and tentative question. Obviously the dog is Putin, along with all of his supporters.
The most valuable lesson I learned as a child is that you have to stand up to the bully. There is no other way and it is inevitable. So the sooner the better. Otherwise the bully get emboldened and even more people get hurt. It is scary to stand up to a bully but must be done.
This is the truth, I kept getting bullied until I fought back not just with words but with fists, the only language that violent narcissistic assholes understand is violence. You can get the teachers on thyr ass, you can try to explain things to them, but they won't stop until you clap back.
Also, to add to that, every bully I've known that actually got hit back changed completely as a person once they realized there's a line they can't cross without repercussions.
Khodorkovsky is absolutely right. It's personally frustrating to see that some European countries think that this war is about Ukraine. It is not. It's just the first stepping stone. The European status quo is over. Things will never be the same. All European countries must realise that Ukraine is not just defending itself, but the rest of Europe too. Every country must support Ukraine as if the war is happening on their own territory, because it would be, were it not for Ukraine.
Polish civilians, most with military training, and on their own initiative, are forming combat units in Poland. They are using private money to purchase equipment: helmets, body armor, weapons, etc.. They are stating that Russia is threatening Poland, and the front line is in Ukraine... And they are going in to fight the Russians.
Average French still can't even put Ukraine on the ma, some people in UK think Ukraine is "on the other side of the world". Dictators never stop. They always want more. Many Western Europeans more care about their morning cappucino than Ukraine's fate. Chamberlain made fool of himself in 1938. Dictator will not stop just because we pretend being blind.
It's a scary thing to hear where we are in the Russis/Ukraine war and I believe Khordovsky when he said that Putin's mission is much more important to him than money, right now.
Narcissistic rage. That's what it felt like when the reckless bombing started, a narcissist didn't get their way, so they explode in a rage. This interview seems to confirm that. Narcissists never get better. There is only one way out of this.
Russia is a terrorist country. IT IS A FACT Such a country must and will be economically destroyed. The problem of Russia is not in Putin, but in its population, which in fact is a herd and cattle. If the herd is out of politics, then it should be silent and not moo, since everything that happens to them is political decisions in one form or another P.S. It was not Putin who started the war, but Russia, legally and with the support of the population of Russia, in fact Therefore, there is no need to look for good Russians, they do not exist.

Most bullies do not know how to fight, and don't wish to fight. They prefer easy targets and intimidation to get what they want. When you stand up to a bully, and say fight them. You need only to hurt them, not win the fight. The fact you stood up to them and were able to hurt them is usually enough for them to find an easier target to prey upon.
I'd like to comment that a translator in this interview is doing an Excellent job. Maintaining this level of accuracy to convey exact words by Mr. Khodorkovsky by means of simultaneous interpretation is quite remarkable. Kudos to this gentleman and to all other professional interpreters out there! Update: I've never gotten this many replies to my posts on RU-vid. Some of you questioned if I know what I am talking about. I think I do: I speak both Russian and English languages, in addition to my native language that is different. Love of words and importance of proper speaking and writing was instilled in me by my grandfather who was a journalist, my parents and many of my relatives who are Philologists. I also have a degree in Simultaneous Interpretation although I have only practiced consecutive Interpretation and written translation because I was taught that working as a simultaneous interpreter requires physical and mental strength of an astronaut, and I never thought I could do that. My post was a tribute to all the professional interpreters who are doing such an important work especially during the times of war. A good interpreter has to have an excellent knowledge of both languages, idiomatic expressions, proverbs, etc, and has to follow the ethic of never intentionally distorting content of the spoken words. Basically, the interpreter has to be completely neutral and people who are being assisted may even forget the presence of an interpreter. Once again, I take my hat off to everyone who practices "love of words" in order to help with communications between people, hopefully for the benefit of all sentient beings.
Thank you, that puts his unbelievable behavior in perspective. But it doesn't make it right. Putin wants people to think he is great, 85% of the people in the world would rather see him gone.
That greedy bastard caused hunger and death for so many Russians. Thanks to him Putin is so popular now 🇷🇺 Why are we even wasting our time listening to him?🙄
I have for sure! The only people who will miss this video are voting for Trump. ( 'For God's sake will no one get rid of that man!" Only the USA can get rid of Trumpublicanism. ) So imagine that there are actually more Russians that want rid of Putin than there are Americans who know to get rid of Trumpublicanism and Trump, because it is the case but Trump's presence in power is no less idiotic to the planet than is Putin. So this is a massive problem in the world. And Trumpublicanism emboldens Putin. What will stop Putin? If not death then what? What is the effing plan? Stop him with knowledge that it is democracy that he wants to get rid of. Stop him with world wide democratic legislation.
More right than wrong, I agree. However he's dead wrong when it comes to the baltic states. Any attack on that front would result in the most deadly of responses; NATO members simply have no other choice, as betraying their article 5 obligations would be more destructive than war with Russia. Finland would be a lot more complicated. I implore Finland to join NATO ASAP to eliminate this doubt & potential complexity.

This has to be one of your finest interviews Fareed, and what Mikhail Khodorkovsky has laid out in this interview is not only eye-opening and shocking, it is world-changing. What we are dealing with in President Putin is in the simplest terms a wolf in sheep's clothing. Putin manages to be a walking image of smoke and mirrors in a person. We see anything but what Mr Khodorkovsky has described about Putin. That is why this interview is the most revealing piece of information that all western leaders should examine in detail.
Would you like to have a go ????? And do a rerun of Napoleon or Adolph and see how far you would get. Play it very cool man ---- this time the Indians have guns --- sorry the indigenous have guns and ICBMs and God alone what else they have that arrives with a very big bang.
He was already insane when he invaded. He simply got more desperate and scared of losing power when he saw that he wasn't welcome with open arms as a liberator but with bullets as an invader. Even the predominantly Russian regions turned against him.

Find all the information about Khodorkovsky and then you will understand why the people of Russia hate him. The most cunning, dodgy, greedy corrupt official.
He’s thinking along the lines of World War 2 tactics. Today’s weapons were developed to use high tech to kill iron beasts and aircraft with minimal damage or use of Humans. Welcome to the real World-Pignutts!
they are the second best military though. it is a senseless invasion and people are not willing to fight plus russia is not using everything it has. if the country was under threat and wasn't acting as an aggressor it would be entirely different story.
Don't forget that little place called China or now that the terrorists have our most advanced war equipment in Afghanistan which seems to be very effectively covered over. Just see how much info you can find about it.
I believe his description and interpretation of Putin is super spot-on. I understand more clearly than I ever have thanks to this gentleman. And the translator was outstanding, clear, on-time and fast with his translations. A criminal in power is a bad, scary combination no matter how you slice it. One thing we can ascertain about Putin based from the descriptions of this interview, Putin embodies criminality and violence through and through. And this will be the case until his dying day, which is even scarier as this man said, he wants to leave a legacy. Well, I'd say he's done that already even though it is one of corruption and criminality in ruling Russia. But how thoroughly and utterly embarrassing it must be for him to end it like this, as a loser of a miscalculated war against the strong and beloved Ukrainians!
I’m originally from Russia. I don’t know a single Russian oligarch, who - even after years of living in USA or UK or EU - would master English at least at the level of a Turkish or Indian immigrant working as street vendor. It says a lot about the capacity of Russians to assimilate or naturalize outside of russkiy mir. I went to a Moscow school and I was bullied for speaking good English and German. They called me a traitor
Dude Putin literally came from the low-life proletarian Leningrad thug street gangs. They weren't like mafia, I'd say closer to English football hooligans. Matter of fact, that is even worse as an environment to get raised within for someone who'd later on join the KGB structure and become an autocrat. Because his judgements and overall life perception are all based on those bully-ish street 'gansta' life of Leningrad (St Petersburg). Imagine an East London Cockney wanker getting a PM post. That's the case with Russia. An absolutely intellectualy degraded in the political sense nation gets to choose a street bully with secret service skills and experience (utter nonsense IMO, being a secret service member shall unconditionally preclude ppl from running in any kind of election as a top priority legislative provision, it is a crime itself to let KGB guys into any civil state service offices).

Nothing more scary than an old dictator trying to go for a last push for glory. In his mind he has nothing to lose and everything to gain, wanting to immortalize himself to supersede the sins of his lifetime.
And so to "ascend to the brightest heaven of invention", in other words fall into the error of believing that a few words and evil actions will make him unforgettable. In a hundred years' time people will struggle to remember his name, unless he is foolish enough to start World War III
One major difference between now and aggressors' previous incursions into other / neighboring countries is that we are in an information age- where nearly every person has a device that can record pictures and video. Actual events can be recorded and documented and possibly geotagged for historical record and authenticity. It's increasingly difficult to keep information from people (no matter how hard authoritarian governments might try). Another is that most countries are linked in multiple ways- but amongst them- economically, via trade, and intellectually- where companies / essential manufacturing cannot exist without international partnerships. Russia may have future conquest ambitions, but they will have to change everything about their country including the way its economy operates on every level since they are essentially blacklisted and disconnected from all of the systems that they came to depend upon in the last 20 to 30 years. I cannot imagine any regime that becomes socially, politically, and economically isolated in most ways over such a short period of time will be able to build back better- at least not in the near term. China might be the only enabler / lifeline that they have- and time will tell if they will go all-in to help Russia destroy European order, safety and stability. They will also suffer economic consequences if it is discovered that they do. If kept isolated- it will be decades before Russia will be able to develop the industries and banking institutions in-house required to enable a country to independently (without open and free trade with the rest of the world) amass the manpower, expertise, and modern equipment to wage war against NATO, and by that time Putin will be gone.
Thanks for brining in this guest and thanks to Mikhail. It's still a risk for Mikhail to speak in this way against Putin - I hope his risk and advice is heeded in the west.

Indeed, he hates Putin more than anybody else, forgetting that Putin released him from prison, whilst could have kept him there indefinitely. Khodorkovsky wouldn't stand a chance to lead Russia. Everyone in that country absolutely despises Mikhail.
While Putin is a horrible person, it does not mean that everybody who opposes him is a good one. And Russians who were filthy rich in 2003 probably stole their wealth, at least partly, from the former property of the people. I really enjoy this journalist, one of the few whose interviews I can watch in the mainstream. Good old school journalist, asks very few good questions (the key ones) and allows for his interviewees to answer them with no interruptions or unprofessional interjections of personal opinion. What a breath of fresh air! Actual journalism, what a sight!
The interview was good, but what you're describing isn't "old school journalism". "Old school journalism" (or simply "journalism" outside of the US) is about asking critical and challenging questions and being a nuisance especially to politicians. Speaking truth to power without voicing an opinion.
Exactly what I thought and I don't like CNN. This journalist is respectful, a good listener, does not interrupt or try to exhibit his own journalistic prowess, and seriously conducts the interview, without any spin questions. cindy
What he said at the end was not quite correct. Putin is not at war with NATO or it's allies. Putin is at war with himself. He is a cluster b disordered creature. All cluster b's absolutely despise who the are. They can never be at peace with who they are. That is why they seek power and control to gain external supply to try and run away from their real self and run towards a false self. The war inside a cluster b can NEVER be won because it does not matter what power and control a cluster b achieves, they will always be pulled back to their real, weak, inadequate, self hating self. And that causes them total misery and emptiness.
He's not interrupting the person he's interviewing because he can't interrupt him; he has to wait for the interpreter to tell him what he's hearing. How dumb can you be?
Gee Biden was right? You mean Donnie's Putin is a genius shows weakness? Republicans call Rhino anyone like McCain or Reagan who want to kill off Putin.

Very insightful information from Khodorkovsky. I can see why Putin was scared of him; because such a person as Mikhail would be a formidable opponent of sad little tsar Putin. This criminal Putin will get justice one day - he will see force soon.
Everyone should listen to this guy, some of the important things he said: - Putin only respects power, if he senses weakness, then it will motivate him to attack more. - If he's allowed to take some parts of Ukraine, then the next step will be the Baltic countries.
I'm not totally convinced about baltic countries, his military after ukraine will need at least 20-25 years before being ready for an another war (and a more difficult one, considering russian equipment and capability compared to nato countries)
To putin 'weakness' is any complaints about brutality to civilians. it's a weird logic but I know this type of people. My mother and sister are evil narcissists and seriously, any show of kindness or empathy enrages them. Their brutality makes them feel better than everyone else. There is no reasoning with them either. It's verging on insanity.
Two significant differences between the Baltic countries and Ukraine: 1.) The Baltic states are NATO members. Ukraine is not. 2.) NATO had already been reinforcing the Baltic states prior to the invasion of Ukraine, and has been accelerated as a result of the invasion. Not to mention the practical aspect of Russian military capabilities; their ability to function on par with western militaries has been shown to be woefully inadequate, and the invasion of Ukraine has not only degraded their already-underprepared and equipped military even further. It will take years for the Russian military to recover and re-rquip to the point where they would consider invading the Baltic states.
@@majortom9397 I agree that it will take time for the Russian military to recover but where are you getting the 20-25 year recovery period from? What hard evidence are you basing that on?
