My door requires I throw my body weight into it to unclick the latch as I hold the handle open. It's quite a performance for first time passengers. Basically hockey body-checking my way in. Being Canadian is a def bonus here.

As somebody who bought the wrong door lock for his back door, and spent far too many hours learning how to re-pin it out of sheer stubbornness rather than admit that I had failed, this gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

You really do take for granted how easy it is to have keyless entry. I spent 2 hours rebuilding a worn through key fob with JBWeld, so it would hang on my keyring, and I didn't have to use keys for getting in. Totally worth it.

Hey, great job on the video.... As an amateur locksmith hobbyist, that was good. I could make a few nitpicks, but overall, you did it right, and that was a good job.... And your video was shot in such a way, that we can actually SEE what you are doing, which is awesome, and not always easy.... Doors that won't work are a real pain... I was on a road trip of about 3600 ish miles, and of course my passenger front door decides to stop working. Broken door handle. So now I can't open the door at all, with either handle, which becomes highly annoying in a hurry. And, you can't pull apart the door while it's stuck shut... That was fun... I'm trying to learn how to wrap... Like vinyl wrap on a car or truck... I swear there's a rule somewhere, that the creator's head or arms or shoulder or hands HAS to be in the way, so that the viewer never ever gets to see what's happening.... So I give you a lot of credit. At least we could see what you are doing. You showed how to do it. A person could watch this video, and do it successfully.... Nice job Sir.

Youve probably been tagged 1200 times, but ive seen that the rover Maestro was the test mule for the mk1 disco and it shares common parts - the rear lights are off the Maestro van. Admittedly these will be even rarer than mk1 disco parts, but its another avenue to explore. I also now want to swap a Maestro body onto a disco chassis...

The p38 “upgraded” to only a single lock on the drivers side. It has power locks and a remote so I guess they figured they didn’t need it. But I don’t have the remote anymore, my door handle on the drivers side broke and then my battery died meaning I couldn’t get in. I had to remove the wheel liner jam an ice pick into a battery cable and then I had enough power to activate the power locks. I fixed the door handle shortly after. No easy task. Land rovers are always fun!

If you one day in the future find yourself having some paint defects on your newly panted Land Rover, this is the reason. Those broken locks made you use teflon spray, and that teflon spray stuck around until 2029 when you painted it, too bad really, have you considered not painting it 😅

Making differing door locks of that variety "one key" for the car You want to use: put in the key You want to use in the freshly reclaimed, already pinned barrel You want to use and remove everything that's sticking out with a 120 or 180 grit belt sander. Scuffed hack job of course, but works a treat and usually does keep it from opening with a screwdriver afterwards just fine. Yes, the Croker approach of comparing and changing pins does work well, but as You mentioned: Anybody wanting to enter Your car and being a slightly bit handy does pick these locks open without any evidence visible in 5 seconds anyway.
@phuzz00

After some scrote tried (unsuccessfully) to smash the door lock on my Polo with a screwdriver, I had to got through this process to re-pin a new lock barrel. The VW ones are almost identical to these Landrover items. And if it's the same in a 2006 VW Polo, they're probably the same in other VWs, Audis, Skodas etc Some of the pins (wafers?) didn't fit in the new lock, so I had to mix-and-match with what I had, and what was already in the lock, and had to do a bit of light filing on a couple. It all works though, silky smooth with my usual key, but slightly sticky with the spare key I have.
