Re: Edgedancer... I haven't read it but I've noticed that it's common for side characters, especially when they're mostly comic relief or a foil to the protagonist, often don't quite work as the center of their own story. People love them, but that doesn't mean they're a good choice as a protagonist.

I feel like Seven Surrenders goes from a reveal every other chapter to every chapter. And it was so hard not to just spam the discord every chapter. just checked Bloodchild out from the library. I am excited.

Reading Bingo?! GENIUS! I'll be stealing that idea, thank you! I get so little reading done. Mostly because of work and being a father and husband. My wife and children annoyingly love me very much and enjoy my company so that leaves me with very little free time, not that I'm complaining, of course. Those little goblins are my life. But then what little time I do get I usually have to use for my writing and if I'm exhausted, I, like you, reach for the video game. In my case, more often than I reach for books. So this reading BINGO idea might just get me reading more. Thanks for the idea! I'm a new subscriber and look forward to more from you. :)

Ooooh, Hades is SO GOOD. I'm extremely excited to play Hades 2 when I can, it looks great. And I'm excited for you and your patreons for the readathon! That sounds like a lot of fun! I haven't read much these past 2 weeks because of work stuff, BUT I will finish Kings of the Wyld tomorrow. Was supposed to finish it today, but I dozed off while reading and there's only 5% of the book left, so I decided to give it proper attention and finish it tomorrow, lol. It's been an ok book. It's cool, it's fun. It's fine. Not more than that, though, to me. But anyway 🩸

I read Bloodchild in the fall and I loved it, especially the main character in Amnesty.

🩸 some good reads! Womb City sounds good but also I’m not in the headspace for it right now. I’m currently reading You Should Be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian and it’s satisfying that need for lighter books. I’m also reading Dispersals: On Plants, Borders and Belonging by Jessica J. Lee and Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. Really hoping to make progress or finish at least one this weekend

🩸 I feel the same about Lift. Did not like Edgedancer as a story but enjoyed the Cosmere tidbits. And it does give context for the Azish in general. But on the other hand, when Lift shows up in Oathbringer, she’s pretty awesome! 😆 I’ve got the last two Terra Ignota books on my bedside table, just waiting for me to crack them open. I kind of want to wait till you and the others get to it so I can participate at the same time. Butttt I’m also not sure I can wait too much longer. 😂 I’m looking forward to reading Bloodchild. It’ll be my first Octavia Butler! 🩸

I love Hades! I've just started playing Hades 2 in early access and it's so good! But it does cut into book reading time 😂

Idk why I find it so wholesome to see you get so incredibly excited about the readathon, I hope you have a ton of fun!! Reading Edgedancer for the first time once I finish WoR and now I'm nervous hahah Really need to give The Inheritance Trilogy a proper try now that the audiobooks are out in the UK so i now have no excuse haha.

I finished and adored Funny Story by Emily Henry and am about halfway into Speaking Bones. Have an amazing reading filled week off🩸

Glad to hear you had a good reading week! 😊🩸🩸🩸 I picked up The Mask of Mirrors on audio this week and, 140 pages in, I'm loving it!! 😁 So many awesome (and diverse) female characters! 🤩 I have to admit, tho, that the beginning was a bit rough for me, what with Ren acting like a classic angry SJM protagonist 😅and Grey's boring intro chapter, but once we met Lady Traementis and started scheming and socializing, it turned into an absolute delight and now I feel like I need to check everything those 2 authors have written 😀 Also, coming from a language and culture which has "ž" (and similar) sounds, I want to praise the narrator for properly pronouncing it every time 😊 Also also, it currently seems really obvious to me who is The Rook 👀 We'll see whether I'm right 😎

There must be something in the air/water, because I was utterly consumed by a contemporary romance book (Happy Place by Emily Henry)--so much so that I already want to re-read it when I just finished it at three in the morning on Thursday! 🩸

Hades! Are you playing 1 or 2? 2 came out earlier than I had thought, and I hadn't been planning on playing it any time soon (I also haven't finished the epilogue of H1), and generally I haven't been playing anything in a long while, even BG3, and then my partner just immediately bought me H2 when it came out, and I was like ok let me just see what it looks like, and now I'm 100% on board the hyperfixation train. 😅
