From a vorthos perspective and as Gisa fan, I’m pretty disappointed the creatures don’t come back as black zombies, but oh well. Solid card anyway.

Yeah I hope they errata the decayed mechanic to give creatures with the keyword at least the zombie creature type if not ideally black zombie.
@ChronoBolt
@ChronoBolt 2 года назад
@@mynzelah6883 why would they errata an entire keyword if the change doesn't actually affect balance? Plus, it mechanically doesn't make sense for a keyword to grant a creature type if a card can have both the keyword and the property granted. You would literally have black zombie tokens with "this creature is a black zombie in addition to its other types"

Between spot removal and board wipes she's extremely strong but manageable. I frequently find i end up playing a control deck instead. She gets beast within on first cast. 3 turns later i manage to get her out again and start the engine then boom chain reaction. After that i play a discard sac deck to control opponents. She really does feel like kahlia to me. I always wanted to make a theft deck and a discard related deck in EDH though so.... I think she is fun regardless. I rarely win games but i dont use combos

Another way to keep the cards almost infinitely is Homeward Path. Get them normally and attack, then AFTER damage but BEFORE the end of combat(yes this is a real part of the turn) activate Homeward Path to give everyone back their creatures. Combat ends and the Decayed trigger kills them. Oh look! Gisa saw enemy creatures die! And repeat... Such a fair and balanced commander! Just like Turgrid! Don't be mad, be happy that Simic wasn't given even more broken things.
@victorbourguignon6897

a judge confirmed this would not work exactly this way as you would control the sacrice trigger so the decayed creatures would go back to their owners without sacrificing and with the decayed condition on em.
@Kahadi
@Kahadi 2 года назад
@@victorbourguignon6897 While it wouldn't work exactly as he said, it still means they don't go to the graveyard from Decay. You can then use a board wipe to kill them again and get them back again. Its not as simple as OP said, but it goes around the decay trigger, and while your opponent gets them back, you already have ways to deal with that. Not perfect, but still an option
@shadowstargaming7186
@shadowstargaming7186 2 года назад
@@victorbourguignon6897 the sac trigger is at the end of combat, you do this after damage but before the end. @shadowstargaming7186 2 года назад
@@victorbourguignon6897 i also went and double checked the rules to make sure i wasn't missing anything and yeah, that guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Gisa doesn't specify creatures without decay or who controls the effect that kills the creatures. Them dying to the decay trigger is no different than them dying to a boardwipe. All that matters is Gisa seeing them die under an opponent's control to exile them and then surviving to your upkeep to play them. The Homeward Path trick works.

I thought of a rather unique way to use her in the 99. A Phenax mill deck. With him out, you want and need creatures to tap and mill with anyway. Board wipes for protection, use your own creatures for blocking, even just let your opponents wipe each other's creatures out, then when they come back under your control... Well, mill decks don't attack much anyway, so Decay doesn't matter. Just tap them for Phenax's mill effect, or use them for any other effects you need creatures for (can't think of a sack to mill effect but I'm sure there might be one)

My buddy and I got into magic a little while ago and played our first commander game. He really like's black so he made a deck with Gisa as his commander. I gotta say, Gisa is probably only salty against decks that are super creature based. I really like blue so i went with Talrand, Sky Summoner as my commander and yeah didn't have any problems with Gisa. She can't steal token creatures so if that's primarily what your deck is using for combat you wont really have any trouble with Gisa at all. He only managed to steal a few of the nontoken creatures i had and yeah they weren't super useful to him since blue creatures really suck in terms of power/toughness. We did have some non-commander games prior with other people and Gisa did pull off some crazy stuff like stealing people's creatures with activated abilities and so he just kept them on the sidelines and used their activated abilities against us, and that was pretty awesome. Great card. With that in mind I feel like anyone running Gisa as their commander should include an Exotic Orchard or other things like it in order to get mana of colors other than black so that you can pay the activated ability costs of creature's you've stolen.

Does she have to stick around? I thought that they go to exile with the delayed trigger that pops up on your upkeep.

I was thinking the same thing
@Xdylan3131
@Xdylan3131 2 года назад
It would only be a delayed trigger if it was one line of text. It is two separate lines of text though so they are separate abilities. The trigger for the second ability is just "beginning of upkeep". It will trigger every upkeep and check if there are any cards. However, if gisa is not on the battlefield, that ability doesn't happen. Hope that helps
@Grief111
@Grief111 2 года назад
@@Xdylan3131 ah that does make sense. I have a Shirei deck, so I was thinking about a delayed trigger on the stack that checks for the card. Rather then, in Gisa's case, the card putting the trigger on the stack.

GIsa + Deadly Vanity is hilarious in standard. Just pick Gisa and then everything else dies, leaving her alone on the battlefield to ruin the opponent's day.

I was thinking about using Homeward Path in response to the sacrifice triggers to give the soon to be dead creatures back to their owners, only for them to die, get exiled and on my next turn here they come again.
@victorbourguignon6897
@victorbourguignon6897 2 года назад
just sharing this:" a judge confirmed this would not work exactly this way as you would control the sacrice trigger so the decayed creatures would go back to their owners without sacrificing and with the decayed condition on em."
@Thejodad234
@Thejodad234 2 года назад
In other words after damage is dealt activate homeward path. Then move to the end of combat. Your opponents would have to sacrifice the decayed creatures and create a loop. When you activate homeward path is very important.

@@Thejodad234 no i mean Homeward path idea doesn't work When the creature with decayed attacks it creates a delayed trigger under your control It doesn't matter under which control the creature becomes, you are going to control the trigger This Matters because the trigger says "sacrifice at the end of combat" which means "you" are going to sacrifice it But you can't sacrifice stuff you don't control. That's why when you Homeward path the creature after attacking, it doesn't cause them to be sacrificed As you said, read the rules before you spread false information
