I can confirm. I do not wheeze, but my chest gets tight and it feels like I am breathing through a damn straw, then I may get dizzy. It depends how hard I'm working and how often. Weight lifting is fine, intense exercises like power cleans, squats, deadlifts, I'm all good. But it's running that makes my chest tight. My asthma was horrible when I was younger, I assume it went away because I have no phlegm, leakage in my lungs or weazing.. But recently the tightness and shortness of breath in my chest has been annoying me at Football practice.
I feel you on this my son is 12 and never had a problem with breathing .been playing sports including football since age 7.took his vaccine shot at 11 now he has the same problem on the field shortness of breath tightening of his chest I'm so passed off cause he is a beast on the field now this
I have never read a comment that related to my experience so much in my life LOL at first I thought I grew out of it too and now I'm not sure. I went to jrotc camp and I was called out on the way I was breathing when sleeping and told it was concerning and noticed myself coughing here and there.
dude I have exercise induced asthma and can't even run for 1 minute without feeling like I have to use my inhaler. I have used every medicine there is for asthma and none have worked. the docters say its never gonna go away, my only hope is if a new medicine comes out
I know this is two years late but gradual workouts may help and dont do that bullshit medicine its just making it worse because they want to get you hooked to earn money
No treatment works with me, I just wanted to breathe like a normal person Edit: Hey guys hope youre doing well, after an year I discovered that my shortness of breath was due to anxiety and that's why no inhaled medication worked, I did psychotherapy and I'm breathing normally, search for help, everybody deserves to breath!
Ask your doctor for a steroid asthma inhaler. It has a steroid in it. Be sure to girgle water after each use. You can use your regular inhalers as well. Also drink water during an attack, it helps too.
I have astham since I was 7 and now I m 16... I used to suffer a lot before and I had also consulted many doctors but medicines didn't show much effect. But when I entered the teen years I knew tht medicines wont work and I decided to exercise regularly... I play football, I run in mornings, I jump, I do yoga and Now I m living lively... Till now I have used only 3 Inhalers
@@hughhjackmann9649 I feel chest tightness while working out nd somedays I got attack in the night after working out at gym in evening . So I left gym . I consulted a doctor now I'm taking montelukast and formoterol fumarate powder . It's been a bit calm than before . Should I start working out again ?
I’ve been using an inhaler for the last week and I’ve noticed a huge difference in my symptoms. I’ve gone from struggling to run beyond the first 10-15 minutes to slashing my PB’s by miles, I’ve also found my commute less cough filled - I noticed it this morning and thought holy moly I can breath
Maybe most people are more normal than they think and that these studies/reports causes them to overthink and stress it. I sometimes get wheezing after running and I realize that if I just calm down and not stress, it eases away.
@@Silenced_by_nazi_youtube i think some people mistake having asthma with simply being out of shape and then immediately overthink it and assume they have asthma - especially people who have never been tested and simply go out and try to run after hardly doing it ever.... if you're not used to running you'll be breathing hard , it's just the way it is. it would be like going into the gym and trying to bench press 135lbs when you've never done it , your muscles will get sore easily (if you're able to even lift it) and be sore after even days after - this doesn't necessarily mean you have a muscle issue but really just you're not conditioned for it , it will develop over time and i think a lot of people can mistake this. I'm not saying asthma doesn't exist though so it's hard to tell unless you're doing all the necessary tests for asthma from a doctor. i know asthma exists because I have exercise induced asthma that developed over time playing sports but it takes a lot to actually make me start wheezing like intense bouts of HIIT running cycles and that seems to be my only symptom since i dont get chest tightness or coughing. get tested, spirometry testing, peak flow meter testing, FeNO testing and provocation testing (active testing) and see what your symptoms are then move from there before jumping to conclusions, it's not hard to get tested for this and they're quick tests that are painless. if you do have it then get a recommended inhaler and ramp up your conditioning over time, don't try to kill yourself every exercise session - building tolerance over time is more important.
@@ryanbeatbox no one tells you this stuff when you're diagnosed, you just know that if you always have your inhaler you're safe. The longest time in my life I've gone without an inhalernis like 3 months. Mostly because I couldnt afford them and secondly I wanted to be off of them. Anyway I'm 23 and just now reading your comment has made me think abouy if I've been approaching this all wrong.
@@Silenced_by_nazi_youtube after working out today, when i inhale (taking deep breath especially) and exhale, there will be this wheezing, vibrating feeling in my chest. i dont have any symptoms like coughing, diziness and such. but its weird.. its been happening for a few weeks now. idk what it is
I usually get asthma attacks when I rung a long distance, when I run for a long period of time, in cold weather and allergy (sometimes). The first time I began having asthma symptoms was back when I was 3 y/o, when I first went to kindergarten. When my mother came to pick me up she noticed I had heavy breathing and was producing whistling sound. I'm not sure if it was because of stress, an infection or hysteria but I've had that for a long period.
When I was 16 I found out that I have asthma. Due to the expensiveness of the medicine, we searched for different ways to somehow reduce the frequency of these attacks. So I started exercising, the main cause of my asthma that time was sleeping late, not eating healthy and being obese. After 2 months of running I thought I might try to run with no inhalers. The first thing I experienced was lung spasm, wheezing and shortness of breathing at night. Time went on and now I can successfully run 3k without any problems I can even eat chocolate and chicken now. But remember when you are just new on the exercise, be strict on your food restrictions. I also learned that running that focuses on working your stamina worked even better so long endurance jogs don't work as much.
So your asthma did not come back again? Me if I have a cold I can't breathe properly in the doctor said I have a asthma, may I ask you I can jogging even I have a asthma?
@@kamote7777 bring your inhaler with you. I rarely have asthma attacks now. Go for progressive running where you increase intensity to help build your lungs not endurance but gradually.
It sucks. I have asthma and I’m out of shape too so it’s so hard to tell if it’s asthma or being out of shape but hearing this is exactly how I sound when I run. I feel guilty in high school gym when I walk when I’m supposed to run (I told my teachers I have asthma so it’s fine, but I still wonder if it’s asthma or me just being out of shape and I’m actually capable of doing it). It bothers me way too much but I just don’t feel like I’m breathing right. The doctors told me my asthma would go away when I was little and I’ve recently started being treated again after being left untreated for 10 years.
I never had this issue when I was younger. I quit smoking after 17 years nearly 9 months ago, but have always been active. Since I’ve started running on the regular basis I can’t shake this. I couldn’t breathe the other day and was choking as if I was drinking a glass of water and it went down the wrong pipe. Every breath(what i could get) was shallow and forced me to cough. I could NOT get enough air in my lungs. I nearly blacked out before finding my albuterol inside the house. This happened after the run while cooling down and walking. This never happens during a run. It’s always shortly after. I keep an inhaler in my pocket now. If I was running outside of my complex or at a park it could’ve all ended for me. Stay safe people.
This happens to me when I run too and always has. But early on I learned I can pass the barrier I have during my run, I purposely get into certain breathing pattern and focus deep and sort of fall into a hypnotic state where everything around me disappears except for me, the concrete, and my breathing pattern. When that happens somehow my breathing becomes manageable. I have different patterns for different situations depending on where I am during my run and what my body feels like and is telling me I use the pattern that fits best. So I kind of use them like a tool kit.
@@toluolaitan916 I'm a mouth breather. I start off with 3 in and 3 out.(Inhale for 3 steps/exhale for 3 steps). I do this for the first few miles. Steady even pace. I would say do this for about half your run. Then 3 in/2 out when I start to feel al little tired halfway through. I would say do this about the halfway point of your run. Maybe even a little before halway through. Stepping down to 3/2 is being able to breath in more oxygen than you release. It gives me a boost. Then finally 2 in/2 out towards the end when I really pick up the pace or sprint to the finish. It all depends on how long you're running and how your pace is tho. 3/3 & 3/2 are my bread & butter to get into the zone with an even pace. 2/2 I only reserve for sprinting or a fast pace at the end. Stepping down from 3/3 to 3/2 to 2/2 is a way for me to regain energy throughout the run.
I have exercise induced asthma and I cannot run without my chest seizing up and I have a super hard time breathing and it feels almost like I'm drowning and because my parents don't trust doctors my inhaler ran out and I have to be super careful and not do anything that causes my heart to speed super much and to breath in through my nose out through my mouth when doing my bike races
Emil Curtis Contact your school nurse or something. Fuck what your parents think, if you havw asthma it is a life threatening condition it is absolutely crucial you have an asthma pump in casw you have an attack
Asthma is SO infuriating. Not being able to breathe is one of the most terrifying things I've ever experienced. I lost my health insurance this year and haven't been able to have my Breo medication. I can't even exercise anymore without fearing I'll pass out.
I have this I'm only able to run like a quarter of a mile without having to stop and by the end I'm breathing hard or wheezing it's really bad I wish I was born without it.
Alfred Miranda I mean I been smoking weed but I had no idea how this would affect because I had asthma when I was a kid but it was gone I think I haven’t gotten any asthma attack literally since then
1) An asthmatic tends to breathe through the mouth and does not press his lips together. 2) Normal lip pressure relaxes chest airways and overcomes asthma. 3) Finger pressure on a lip shows this. This opens up lung airways by acupressure. This makes sense. Lip pressure is so important for love and the martial arts as well as asthma. That is the way I cured my asthma.
Before discovering I had sports induced asthma, I played a full soccer season. My teammates perceived my asthma as "low stamina", which didn't lead me to believe it was anything serious till i went to the hospital. I was about to be cut from the team, but after getting an inhaler the difference was wild. I became the team captain and our most reliable defender.
I’m the same as him. I hated gym during elementary, middle and high school. The gym teacher was never sympathetic of my condition. Once I have an attack the pump does nothing for me and I MUST use my machine.
I've had asthma since I was about 12-13 years old. I have a hard time running for short distances plus I get winded just going up flights of stairs. The Albuterol inhaler doesn't always work. I really hate having asthma. It often feels like an elephant has sat on my chest.
I used to walk 2 miles to church and back 2 times a week carry my backpack full of books I built up stamina. lost a bunch of weight and the problems disappeared.
I use to get attacks, so I started exercise and gym and avoided all the things which is bad for asthma like cold drinks ,cold water ,egg ,fish ,milk and sugar too .....Regular exercises can help . I don't take any Kind of medicine or inhaler at all till now....
I had runners asthma and started to wonder why since I started getting fit. I felt it in my throat tightening up. I beat it by eating anti inflammatory foods like turmeric and ginger as well as raw onions in salads. Loosing weight and pushing through with running or HIIT help me beat it. But that’s just me. I’m 5.8 and 160 points at 18% body fat.
I only get it when I full on sprint and it's cold outside when I'm sprinting. I used to run like 10ks even when it was like 20-30 degrees outside and not have any issues. I'm 5.10 at like 158 and like 12% body fat.
I really wanted to join the army but i have asthma but there was a point that i was working out a lot and my asthma was gettng better, i really need to start doingnit again
I have this problem but I gonna try making it on the sprint team. Please pray for me 🙏🏾‼ Edit: I didn't make it on the team 😔 but I tried and that's what counts 😁!
I get this and it’s honestly the worst. I’ve put on a ton of weight from poor diet and barely any exercise because when I was at my fittest I never felt like I was making any progress because I’d always hit the same limit cause of it and a bit of body dysmorphia, so I just gave up but by doing that I’ve slumped into those poor habits so my fitness level is way down and it’s 100x worse because of the combination. Been meaning to go to an ENT or someone to get treatment but Covid put it off. Really want to be able to get back in shape without feeling like I’m going to choke to death every time I do a work out.
Exercise and asthma is tricky. I have tried everything over the years. I simply have to use one puff of Ventolin before a run. It’s just no fun any other way.
I had this the last 3 times i went to the gym, also got cold feet and hands for 2 days and couldn't deeply breath. But I never had anything like this before in my life.
I’m starting to think I might have this. I’m a cross country runner at my high school and every time I run in races and exert myself, after about 1 mile my chest starts to feel like I’m being stabbed and I start wheezing. My shoulder hurts too.
I have all these symptoms. When I go for a run I'm doing fine at first, but soon I start to feel like I'm breathing through a straw, and it makes me hate working out... but I always figured I was just out of shape 🤷🏻♂️
***My tip is workout indoors and close any big outside air draft into your room*** I started getting this at 23 when i moved from India to Sweden and joined cycle club here. I also do skating outside. And I figured out that I dont get that when i workout indoors and the windows are closed. If i get on my cycle trainer at home with windows open, the constriction starts slowly and the longer and harder i push, the worse it gets. Another thing is the airflow, i used to have the fan right i front of me böowing air into my face qhile I'm on my cycling trainer, and now I shifted the fan to my side about 3 meters away. It made a night and day difference. Doing these i completely eliminated my asthma symtoms, but I have not trained outdoors again. I should try.
Just searched this up now after a pre-season fitness training for my sport:) I have had this issue since I started sprint training back as an 11-12 year old. Even at my fittest, it was a challenge to maintain consistency during high intensity running exercises~ always having to have a break, or put my foot on the brake. The constriction in my chest can be that overwhelming haha🤠🤠🤠💅💅💅
I've had excess phlegm all my life. Never knew that Asthma could cause that. Last winter I developed constant wheezing attacks that wouldn't go away for hours. Eventually I wasn't allowed to clean anything at my workplace until I got it sorted out because I'd have to sit down it got so bad. Mornings were always terrible too I'd cough and cough for over an hour to get out phlegm. With daily medicine AND using my rescue inhaler before exercise I can run and quite well. I've always wanted to run without bronchoconstriction, now I can confortably if I'm cautious. : )
I try to use my inhaler as little as possible because your lungs adapt to the medicine and it gets worse when you don’t use an inhaler. In a situation calm down and slow down. BREAKS ARE OK!!! If you need a break, take it. Caffeine is a great replacement for an inhaler. But that doesn’t mean don’t use your inhaler. Edit: also don’t forget to breathe when you are running and working out. You may not notice that you’re holding your breath.
I am from India and I never had this asthma problem being in city in India which is much more polluted then being in USA in small town... God I got severe allergic bronchitis attack now I have to take medications.. I am sure there is something in air which is far worst then India.
I start getting wheezy and dizzy when I do like 2 min of a workout (even simpler ones) I’m trying too do yoga now since it’s not that hard on me but I still get wheezy after 6min of it.
90% of asthma sufferers are mouth breathers. Check your breathing, breath in through your nose always and into your belly. This will filter and warm the air before it enters the lungs and stop lung irritation. This is how babies breath. It works like a miracle. In through the nose and out through the mouth if your exercising.
I have excercise induce asthma and running for a minute will make me feel like a fish out of water. Even brisk walking trigors my asthama i want to get tone lean legs but guess not in this lifetime with this burden😕
Today during a workout, it felt like air was being forced out of my lungs when I breathed in. This never happens. I also felt more sweaty and tired with a intermediate workout. Idk what this is, any help?
I went to gym 2 years ago lifted too lot weight but all was ok,but after lockdown I had started home workout with dumbbells so I'm coughing green phlegm(with less coughing) no problem in breathing ,my friend also faced this condition he recommended warm water.hope u all are fine
I was skating today and I think I had this kind of attack. My heart was pumping so hard you could see it by looking at my chest. I couldn't breath and my vision was blurry and backed out for about 15 seconds. I had to go in the back of an ambulance and started to feel better with cool air. I'm 13 and my older brother also has exercise induced asthma.
The best way to not have asthma anymore more is to not take your inhaler 4-5 times a day.Your lungs get used to taking an inhaler every day and your brain tricks you in to thinking I need need an inhaler when your only coughing and in reality you don't really need to take your inhaler. The only times you need it is when you can't breath like you can't breath at all. When your still able to breath just relax breath in trough your nose and blow out trough your mouth and then like in 5 minutes you will fell perfectly fine. Hopes this way will help anybody who takes their inhaler to much.
@Anna Scassa it's possible. I have asthma all my childhood. I would miss school throughout the year because of being in the hospital. In my teen years it got better. Long story short I haven't use an inhaler in over a decade. Am I cure from asthma? Idk. But I would say yes
I was 6 when I first got diagnosed with Exercise induced asthma, I’m 15 now and it’s just as bad. For years I put off school sports because I thought it’d be too painful. But now I realize it has to hurt for it to go away, so I am trying out for soccer in a few days at my school. Ima edit this comment next year to update if it’s gone away
I think I have exercise induced asthma/bronchoconstriction but I haven't gone to the doctor's for confirmation, meaning I have no inhaler/medication and everytime I do any kind of small running or large running I'm out of breath in the first few seconds. I had to stop during a pe hockey lesson just because It was so hard to catch air, I felt really sick and light headed but I just waited until the end of the lesson where I started coughing alot and was losing my voice. I don't know if this is enough for me to go to the doctor's for. Edit: I also have a heavy feeling in my lungs making me feel sick and lightheaded, it can hurt sometimes causing me to cry because of it.
Use preventative meds if your doc says to. But most of us can reduce exercise-induced asthmatic symtoms by inhaling and exhaling through your nose only. Check out BOLT (Body Oxygen Level Test). Practice the BOLT exercise reguarly (hold breath after exhalation for as long as you can).
I've played soccer my whole life currently 25years old and i recently started feeling this way after a workout, i'm in good shape 5"9 150lbs and as a soccer player we do alot of cardio and have been told to always breathe do your nose. Until recently i inhaled Diatomaceous earth and i believe it really irritated my lungs and nasal passages. I'm on week 1 now and i feel it's gotten Much better, i still try my best to workout and be as activr as possible. However my sypmtoms are only chest discomfort and shortness of breath. This sucks though coming from someone who has been active their entire live and enjoyed sports.. i just tecently got prescribed an inhaler just incase, but i refuse to rely on an inhaler before or during a workout.
This is the only reason that I hate running. It’s so hard to lose weight without cardio. This asthma just makes you struggle 3 times as hard while running then normal people and the only way to get over it is to push until you feel that you are not able to breathe and start crying and etc and only then that makes my lungs get used to the pressure that I put in them to work.
As someone who likes to stay active this sucks😢. I guess my mom forgot to mentioned that I suffered from this when I went to college 20, 21 and decided to try out for the cross country team and I almost passed out and couldn't control my breathing. One of the coaches did mentioned if I had asthma but i said no, because I did not known back then until it resurfaced in my 20's. I'm 33 now and I've been sorta of sedentary for like 5 years and gained some weight, that makes it 20x harder because I would start working out and give up. I wanted to try jumping rope today and it was bad😢. I aslo think that Covid Pneumonia messed me up more. I will start little by little again and hope I can gain some indurance to loose the weight and be more active without having any breathing episodes.
I get out of breathe after running. Feels like airways is getting narrow and cough too. A normal human after running get back to normal breathe under couple of minutes. But it takes me around 20 - 30 minutes to get back to normal breathing without any medication. Anyone with similar problem?
I only get exercise induced bronchoconstriction when it's cold outside and I do full on sprints (like 6 minute mile pace). End up coughing for like 20+ mins after the exercise even if it was only for a couple of minutes. If I just jog (8-10 minute per mile) I don't have any real issue even if it's cold out.
I don’t wheeze, but my chest gets tight and painful. I always hear a whistle when I’m running, exercising and on daily basis. It’s very soft but I can still hear it. I don’t have an Inhaler, my mom said it’s just me. But I don’t think it is, I have all the symptoms of it, so why don’t I have it? I also cough, but mostly around the afternoon or at night.
Hey recently I realized when I’ve been doing my daily runs I couldn’t get through the first 3 minutes without having to stop my legs feel great and they feel like I can keep on running but my chest says no idk if there is something wrong or I’m just overreacting but it feels like I need to take a few minutes to breathe and this has never happened before and I usually can run long distances and feel fine but I’m only 12 and it’s a little weird I feel like I can’t take deep breathes and I can’t stop coughing does anyone have advice
I only experience throat irritation when running, breathing in fast or having air from a fan come in my direction. Is that the same as exercise induced bronchoconstrictions?
Okay, I have never had asthma before and I haven't run in who knows how long but for some reason I decided to go for a run around my block and like hardly halfway through my chest was tight and I was having trouble breath, it's been and hour since I got home and i haven't stopped coughing my chest still feels tight so maybe I have this, I looked it up and it said that asthma can develop at any age (i'm 17) so yeah probably have this
I’ve got chronic asthma I was born with it most of the time even when I’m walking far distances it’s not to bad a little tightness that’s it but when I run for more than 1 minute or more I begin to get shooting pains along with weasing and shortness of breath I use my inhaler everyday at least 4 times a day nothing seems to work having asthma sucks I wish I could do more with my life like join the army and do something you know
To cure asthma use chin mudra with a finger held against thumb to deepen breathing. Breathe through nose, With time airway remodeling is overcome. Sleep with mouth shut. Google for "night mouth taping." The basic cause of asthma is unknown to medicine. We have got to live with this fact. See on mudras www.njppp.com/fulltext/28-1561025032.pdf?1604305091
I start wheezing.. when I laugh a lot, sneeze a lot, cough a bit longer.. nd I can't exercise without pausing several times.. it has really ruined my life..
I been to so many doctors an they said I have asthma but I tried everything for 7 years now I been dealing with coughing an I also have anxiety I know it has to be exercise induced asthma cause at my job I run around a lot an I start coughing an coughing sometimes I get so bad I start to throw up but nothing comes up just mucus anyone else?
One short bicycle ride and I feel like I have to breathe really high and deep and like no matter what I do, it feels like I can't get oxygen and like I will vomit. It reminds me of when I had adrenal crisis, it feels like a deep fatigue. I get so drowsy. Then when I get home, I immediately feel better. Do I need to see a doctor?
I have exercise induced asthma.... i went away in 2018 but came back in 2019... just really sucks....lowering my quality of life. Before a run i just take puffers, take a allergy pill and put on vicks on my chest and neck. Helps
