That right there is what you call 'engineering a solution'! Cheaper than a new exhaust, saving the customer money, and working wonders for customer relationship. There's way too many places that would want to rip that exhaust off and charge mega bucks for a cheap after-market replacement. This engineered solution is win-win in my book.

I was just discussing this with my 30 year old son yesterday. Back in the 1980's and before we had a bunch of chain muffler stores in the U.S. Then the manufacturers started using stainless exhaust systems, and the whole ballgame changed. The last exhaust I had worked on was our 1992 Eagle Premier, and it came from the factory with a clamp on the muffler so I only paid $49 for a muffler and clamp. Ever since I have sold the vehicles at 10+ years old having never had to repair any exhaust parts. Oh- and all those "muffler" chains either went belly up, or expanded out into full service, especially brakes and struts, etc. You did a great job and gave wonderful customer service Eric!

The only thing I "might" have done differently would be to try to weld the inside of the sleeve on the muffler side before the easier part since it's such a pain to get up over the top. Oh also as a tip: if you spray the rubber of the muffler hangar with brake parts cleaner it makes the rubber slimy so the hangar slips right out or in. When the spray dries the rubber goes right back to being a a tight firm fit. $.02

I did something similar on my 2006 Honda Civic (197k miles) a couple weeks ago. It was screaming loud above 55mph. Turns out the rear flange separated at the weld. Got a 14 inch exhaust pipe, cut it down to size, and used a clamp on each side. I had plenty of straight with overlaps so clamps worked just fine. My BIL, who is an expert welder, didn't want to weld it; he recommended the clamps. I also used some JB Weld Exhaust Sealant. Sounds quiet as the day it rolled off the assembly line! Cost me $30 from the Zone. My mechanic wanted to replace everything rear of the drivetrain for almost $600. He didn't feel comfortable welding it because of a high probability of failing during his warranty period. I totally get it. Just glad I could do it myself and keep my car on the road with breaking the bank.

I know you're a pro and been doing this forever but please for the love of God don't rely on just closing your eyes when welding. UV doesn't stop because your lids are down. I know ppl who learned that the hard way over time.

@GsaUce Rug Cute but going blind isn't. Arc-eye, also known as welder's flash, is an inflammation of the cornea and is a result of ultraviolet (UV) radiation released by welding .

I’m disappointed. I came to the comments looking for keyboard welders to troll. Couldn’t find any. Good job Mr. O.

What to go Mr. O, not up-selling your customer on an exhaust system she ultimately didn’t need

lol That welding is A+ for the working conditions and the quality of metal. I was quite surprised.

As an ASE, CSI, IRS, CIA certified welder with 648 years of experience...(insert pedantic welding jargon). Looks better than the last weld I did, that's for sure. You probably saved that customer $1000 given inflation. Too bad your shop is so far from my neck of PRNY, or I'd be sending my family to you for their repairs. Keep up the awesome work and the great videos.
