Episode 36 - We visit three famous Turkish Bazaars. The Grand Bazaar, the Egyptian Bazaar and Pendik Markets. They are vibrant and bustling marketplaces where locals and tourists alike can find a wide variety of goods, from fresh produce and spices to textiles, ceramics, and handcrafted items. These markets are an integral part of Turkish culture and a popular destination for shopping and socializing.
The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is one of the most famous bazaars in the world and the largest with over 4,000 shops and stalls selling everything from jewelry and carpets to leather goods and antiques. It is a colorful and lively place where visitors can haggle with vendors and experience the sights, sounds, and smells of a traditional Turkish market.
The Egyptian Bazaar built in 1664 and is also known as the spice bazaar, wins the prize for being the most colorful, fragrant, and often the most fun - as visitors can taste the goods on offer.
The Pendik Markets often take place in open-air squares and streets on the weekend, and they offer a more local and authentic shopping experience where you can get some real bargains. You can expect to find a wide array of goods, including fresh fruits and vegetables, olives, cheeses, and other local produce from the farmers market area. Also browse through the endless stalls full of clothes, from shirts, jeans, shoes, hats and many other household items. Turkish bazaars and street markets are not just places to shop but also to experience the rich and diverse culture of Turkey.
