I take a look through our training journey with NAPIT for both battery storage and PV systems. Along with the process filling in and submitting G99/G98 applications and the MCS portal!
I also cover the CPS notification for building control compliance again via the awesome NAPIT suite of tools.
I had loads of questions around this when I started and have since had lots asked towards me lol. So I hope this video run through helps.

Very much appreciate the insight and explanation. Great video Mark!

Very well explained. I submitted an online fast track application to my local DNO, UK Power Networks, and the process was the same. As of March 2024 there stated response time was 45 days.

Another fantastic vlog that gives one man bands an insight in the paperwork side of MCS. 👍

No probs mate. This next few videos are all about that. Ending with the installation and testing stuff. From the thick of the trenches trying to do it lol. Can’t get more authentic than that 😂

There's so many things you can do. I reckon I could be on a course every week of the year. Will look up some solar courses😢.

Want to do DIY install then get spark in for connecting up new bidirectional meter. Emailed Local dno reckon I can have a 6kw inverter. Trying to keep costs down.
@electrician247

@@markbennett9043 ahh assumed you were an electrician lol. Without the MCS you will do well to get an export mpan. Also ensure you notify local building control. Both those carry not insignificant cost and without them carry substantial fines and other liabilities. My general advice would be to consult a reputable installer as these kind of works go beyond DIY imho.

Hi Mark enjoying the video as always… I did the Bpec 5 day course (solar & battery storage) and exam 18 months ago but apart from helping another spark do his own set-up. Reason for not taking it any further is purely the cost/time getting the MCS. With that said, I’m sure Ive read that you no longer need to be mcs registered since Aug 23 to get octopus and other suppliers G-99 /G100 applications? Can you advise if this is correct. Will now enjoy this video

@@UplandsJack kind of is the answer lol. I can only speak as regards octopus as that’s the one I looked into. But you still have to apply to them, pay a fee, notify building control, DNO, warranty etc. Essentially it’s the same thing but imho harder to process and no lower cost if you do a few jobs per year. We haven’t been able to make use of it anyway so can’t comment beyond that. I believe octopus have a scheme of their own on the way similar to MCS. The MCs process has got lots simpler in itself no need for hies or recc anymore. I summarise it like the part p cps stuff. Yeah we can save our fees and just notify jobs via local building control. But that ends up harder work and more expensive. This is just the same, MCS is easier and cheaper for us. Plus we get a fair few enquiries over from the MCs website itself and consumers are asking for it! Hope that helps and good luck getting going with it mate

Hi Mark. Thanks for this tutorial. I just have a question. We have a 2-MW renewable connected to an 11-kV distribution network. The connection to the 33kV network is a demand connection, which means we are only allowed to import from the upstream network. Now, we want to get permission from our DNO to export to the DNO's network. The DNO allows a modification to the existing connection agreement to allow for export capacity. Now my questions are what would be our approach step by step? Further, what are the necessary compliance steps that you need to follow?

Need to contact a decent electrical enigneer or speak to a g99 panel building company see if they can offer some help. Complex one this 👌 I worled on solar parks as enginner

Hi, have you ever filled in CLS form part of G100/2 application form for limitation metering? Confused with the question: Aggregate sum of all loads (including storage) in the installation (ie controlled by the CLS and those that are not controlled by the CLS). Does this mean other loads on DB like shower, ev, sockets? Thanks

Hi, I have recently ordered panels and solar from EON and I need a G99 for exporting. I have been told that the install cannot be booked until the G99 has been received however another installer has stated that I can install the solar but cannot recover and SEG payments until the G99 has been released. Are EON correct as I would like to benefit from solar despite the SEG while the sun is still shining?

It’s a grey area in terms of connecting equipment. If it is ENA approved one argument is you should be able to connect anything you like within the existing supply capacity. Another angle on that is you need agreement to export power into the grid as you can effect voltages in the local area. Our approach is the same as eon we will not install equipment than export beyond a G98 level without prior approval. You could install and limit the export to within g98 limits during the application but again that is grey lol. All that said G99 applications are usually faster than the lead time on an installation in any case. I would also advise some shopping around beyond energy suppliers as value is not always best delivered in those places.

Have you installed a pair of the GivEnergy AiO batteries yet? I’m assuming that they along with a solar inverter would be above the 60A limit mentioned?

So I had my first g99, and the dno is asking for loop impedance. Says needs to be less than 180mohms. Im using an MFT pro. Did the ZS at the main switch of the solar CU and got a reading of 0.10ohms. Would you just fill in 0.10 ohms or converter it to mohms, so 1.0E-7 MΩ? Sorry if this is a stupid question just out my time 6 months and my background is commercial/industrial.
@electrician247

Is this asked for on the commissioning data? Or pre install? If commissioning it’s just the Zs at the solar inverter. So long as you denote the value it shouldn’t matter what form you send it in. 0.10 is a good value!
