Diagnosed First as Psychotic Depression. It was changed to Bipolar with psychotic features shortly after. I am still very early on in my recovery. This video helped me connect some pieces I didn't even know were there. Thank you, loved the video!

Okay, so this has been a topic that I have been super interested in for a while. I feel like when I learned about mania and psychosis in medical school, a lot of these symptoms are categorized for simplicity into different disorders (bipolar vs schizophrenia, etc) and the presentation of overlapping symptoms can be confusing to diagnose as a learner (primary mood disorder vs primary psychotic disorder). I have long thought that some of what I observed from an outsider's perspective of your symptoms sounded more like mania but watching your videos I have learned more about the other things you have experienced that I wasn't aware of. I would love to know how your doctors explained your symptoms and diagnosis to you and how your symptoms change when you are not experiencing mania. Also, the decreased water and food intake is not something I remember learning about mania. It's very useful to know for me going forward when seeing patients. Thanks!

I never had bipolar, mania or schizo but i took antidepressants for first time 6 mnoths ago, called Tritico Trazodone i felt like have bipolar or something! Vision of grandeur, was sure im winning lottery,i was controled by that vision, half of day i was day dreaming violently that im winning lottery,i felt like im posessed by a demon,i was realising this may not be true, but i was so sure i feel a paranormal expeirence, despite being aware it may not be true! The day dreaming was so violent, the images i was having not as hallucinations but inside my head, like when u remmeber soemthing have that image in ur head,i was having those,,it was fucknig crazy! Having this violent day dreaming mixed with episodes of my body shaking like im posessed, felt very real. I experienced how is like ot have bipolar or schizo! In a way ws interesting but just for a short while! Im done with antidepressants!

Mania? I don't mean to be incredibly impersonal to your, very hard experience with schizophrenia, but I do want to ask you: Isn't schizoaffective disorder a form of schizophrenia with manic or bipolar behavior? I am so sorry to hear that you have these dilusions with your condition. Psychosis can be extremely hard. It is incredible how aware you are of these dilusions. That is a very brave, and difficult thing to accomplish. You have come so far.

I am not a psychiatrist but from what I know, schizo affective has mood disorder prominent, where as schizophrenia doesnt? It’s In my case manic episodes are very rare (thankfully) 2 in 8 years very close to each other, both times I’ve landed in the hospital because of this. Manic state I don’t show extreme mood change. Just heightened levels of energy couple with the symptoms I described and psychosis (a disconnect from reality and the need to get away from Society). Psychotic symptoms coupled with schizophrenia symptoms like loss of cognitive ability (memory and concentration) flat effect, no happiness or pleasure, social disconnect, isolation. That is what I have found myself in and then researched about it. Hope that helps. But I have plans to interview my psychiatrist that diagnosed me in the future.

@@lettersfromschizophrenia That, again, sounds hard to deal with. I am glad you are able to recognise that, even though it can be so, incredibly hard to deal with. Yeah, having two manic episodes doesn't sound like schizoaffective, of course RU-vid is no place to diagnose (😅). Even people without schizoaffective can have manic episodes like that from something like ADHD or just being human! Glad that you have access to a psychiatrist, I hope they can help you with this. Good luck on your journey through this, and all the problems life can throw you.

@@lettersfromschizophrenia Schizoaffective disorder is where they can be mood episodes but psychosis can occur outside of these episodes (psychosis prominent). When psychosis occurs only during mood episodes, that is a primary mood disorder (major depressive vs bipolar) with psychotic features, at least that's how we are taught according to DSM-V. In reality, there is so much overlap in these disorders, and treatment can be so similar, we don't know how to distinguish the neuroscience of these illnesses. Just look at our family, we have so many different psychiatric illnesses lol it's not hard to infer that we all share some predisposing factors in our genes (at least that's my theory).

I have in the past has some symptoms of delusion and disassociation. I wonder what the mechanism in the brain is that causes delusional thinking, like the logic and reasoning is still there: ie the ability to draw conclusions and build a narrative bhut the fundamental core belief is wrong... If you have any insight lmk Good video 😎

It is so fascinating. I don't understand why or what specific chemical's in the brain can cause that. Why tf does lithium do anything?

Not sure about this, but great questions. Planning on connecting with the psychiatrist that diagnosed me and ask him things. Will definitely keep this one in mind! Thank you for the comment and support!
