So many potato planting options out there. I have grown in boxes but not had much luck. I am trying both in-ground and in a box this year. I can't wait to see how they turn out. I will get my sweet potatoes in the ground around April 17 assuming they all get sprouts that I can make slips from.
I hope you are doing well with your gardens so far. The rainy season is coming so it is a matter of outguessing the cold as well as the rain when trying to get things planted. I am a hair behind on a few things, but, I ALWAYS AM! LOL

Practice is progress! I tried something new this year and was amazed. I rolled off all the little 'buds' that form on a sweet potato that wants to grow starts. Three older ones that had starts and all the buds but I wanted to cook. I put the 2" starts in a glass of water then rolled out the desperate to grow buds. I put them in a saucer with just enough water to be waist high then kept them under the grow lights as I have no sunny window sill. The starts did fine, as they usually do but the experimental buds were magic!!!!! They grew roots and stems - fat healthy stems and it only took a few days which were a pain as they dried up the small amount of water several times a day. BUT that was no work, just adding a couple tablespoons to the saucer as I walked by and noticed they were almost dry. Once they had 1" to 1 1/2" stems, I put them all in an old baby food jar and kept it filled with water - even adding the shorter buds that I assumed wouldn't make it. Dropped them between the larger ones even if they weren't touching water. They grew like crazy - they all did and I had about 15 buds in that one little baby food jar. No more toothpicks for me - just practice my bowling by rolling out the buds. I cooked the sweet potatoes for supper! I knew you would enjoy my experiment. Amazing how much plants want to reproduce - thank you God.
