A personal private jet that can seat up to 6 people and cruise 400 mph at 41,000 feet. Currently an experimental, but Stratos is setting up for certification within the next decade.
Stratos jet is the newest line of private personal light jets. They've been making noise for quite some time now and 2 years ago the company took a big step forward by bringing in a real world model of their single engine, single pilot jet.
Last time we were at Oskosh EAA Airventure, I had the opportunity to see the Statos jet prototype, the 714. If you missed that review, here it is • Stratos Jet Can now Be...
Since revealing the model jet, Stratos has been on a mission to get their aircraft certified, hence the 716x model. Some major improvements have been made to this new ready to build model private jet. The 716X compared to the 714 is 40% longer but also 400 lbs lighter in weight. This is evident when you see the plane in person. You step into that cabin and you'll see just the amount of extra leg room there is. Being an experimental aircraft, Stratos 716x jet can only be built through a build assist program. And your standard avionics is the Garmin G3X touch.
The cost?
- $2.3 million for the kit
- $200k for the build assist.

That is a KIT price. The finished product (if they ever get fully certified is going to be in the closer to $5m. More than twice the Cirrus jet.

put a toilet in the back - and remove 1 seat... the toilet gives Honda main stage over all the competition.

take out 3 seats and put 3 toilets in there, it will be the only plane like it and nobody has to wait as long as the autopilot is on

These small planes with limited range do not need a toilet. The range of the Honda is 1600mi. So you will need fuel long before you need to poop. Most GA pilots bring a pee bottle if they want to stay aloft longer, but still the range is so small landing for fuel will easily be inside the range of a bladder.

You can get a lot of aircraft cheaper than this. In terms of jets though, the only one you can get brand new is the Cirrus Vision Jet, though it actually comes fully assembled. If you want a prop plane with a similar capacity, the Diamond DA62 is about $1.2 Mil.

the financials/investment must be crazy for these long term development/certification programs, what type of unit sales does it take to break even and what kind of profit margins are there on aircraft once they get into production? it would be really interesting video on the financials of a project like this. Cirrus prob has good info

I'd imagine the profit margins are well worth the risk of starting up, otherwise nobody would be producing private jets.

@@Superxpninja out of curiosity i gave it a Google search. The first article I read has a quote from a vice president of Cessna from 2013 announcing price increases. The VP said some models weren't profitable at all. So, I guess it's a little tighter than I presumed...

Cool looking plane.. same speed as a Piaggio P180, holds 1/4 less people.. only has a single engine, basically it’s an emergency before takeoff.

It is same aircraft concept with Diamond D-Jet ! There is also another single engine jets on the market like Piper jet, Epic Victory, Eclipse 400 Jet, Cirrus jet, Williams V-jet, VisionAir Vantage,Sport Jet2 ...

@@MrMartinglob You can order some of them as Kit aircraft. Stratos get introduced as a revolution in Aircraft industry by this channel. Stratos is nothing else then a copycat. I hope this Aircraft will be available in Aircraft industry so prices can go lower. Little competition kills no one.

@@nsudatta-roy8154 probably more but the fact its "experimental" means it does not require an annual inspection, only a condition inspection. Which the builder of the plane can do.

Interesting, but at that price, they're getting awfully close to a Cirrus Jet and you still have to build it yourself! One of the major complaints of the Cirrus Jet is the noise levels of that single jet engine on the fuselage. Curious to see if this design has the same issues.

Nice design the 714 in my opinion, however comparing and being competitive with the mentioned turbo props 1 thing he forgot to mention, its not a family plane, as the mentioned turbo props is suitable for single pilot, the mentioned jets, 714 and the 716 needs a co-pilot as well what impact the business as private pilots mostly avoid aircrafts that needs a co-pilot. Just my share of a taught!

Curious the Stratos site doesn't give useful load info or runway length requirements for the jet. Sure, it's 100kt faster than a Pilatus but can it operate from a 2500ft runway with a 2200lb useful load? And its range is 450nm less. It's a nice looking design but it's got the same drawbacks that all turbofans have when compared to turboprops. In the end, the plane has to fit the mission so if you're not flying out of short fields and you don't need the longer legs of a TP this might be the way to go.

Wikipedia claims a ~2000 foot takeoff distance. I have no idea if that's loaded, or not, and I have no idea how reliable those numbers are. In fact, I can't even tell if that number is for the 714, or the 716, or if that even matters. In any case, I would certainly not expect a takeoff role much worse than the Pilatus for such a light plane with such good thrust to weight ratio.

I'd rather invest in a certified, professionally maintained Cessna Citation or PC-12 for half the cost. It is pretty though. Buying an aircraft is relatively cheap. Maintaining it safely and legal is expensive.

Even continental themselves will tell you that there's literally absolutely no difference between the engines that they produce that are certified and the ones that are experimental, they come off the same line and have the same testing and everything. The only difference is paperwork. Paperwork

Not this one, that's for sure. In fact, I don't think any light jet can do it without adding extra ferry tanks to the interior of the plane. As far as single engine turbo props go, only the PC-12 has the range to make it, and then only just barely.

@@operator0 If you go via the Aleutians with light payload at eco cruise, maybe, but I think the only single pilot plane that can make it safely from California with usable payload is the King Air 360 ER.

I'm in A&P school. Modern composite structure technology has made aircraft cheaper than ever to produce, yet they are more expensive than ever. Lots of scammers in aviation it seems, unfortunate for the industry

Not sure what the appeal is when you can get a certified vision jet with a parachute for around the same price. Not to mention Cirrus support network. It’s easy to get excited about new jets at shows, owning and operating one is another thing. Vision Jet with Williams engine is a superior value and people that own this will be passion project types not mainstream.

Technically possible. How is your skill with casting, machining, heat treating, welding, riveting, multicurve bending, and fiberglass layout/sanding? You will probably need ~100k in tools too.

Its range is going to be less than 1500nm at 400kts. That's going to be a total flight time of less than 4 hours. It doesn't seem prudent to sacrifice a seat for a toilet.

A possible problem with this engine configuration is the jet blast damaging the tarmac when the aircraft rotates.

A fraction of what cost? The certified version (still not here yet) is going to be $5m bucks. Hardly a bargain for a 320kn cruise, 4-passenger jet with a 1600m range.

Let's get REAL. How many pilots out there can build a jet from a kit? Someone else is going to have to build it. so there goes your savings, and then some. And is there a Warranty? Never understood this, if a single pilot has to pee, where how does he go. at 41,000 ft you have to remain pretty close to O2 incase you lose cabin pressure. not worth it

So I can't seriously think this as meant to be a kit plane and can't foresee it as anything other than a certified airplane. Let's all call this what it is, an end run around trying to sell a plane they lack the resources to certify. First, let's be serious, there has always been a big grey space around build assists; this has the risk of forcing the issue for regulators. There is simply not enough hours in a person's life to attempt to meet the 51% rule in this class. Second, if you have $2.5MM to buy an kit plane; you likely don't have the time to build it. Good luck getting insurance on that too. Drop in the lack of resale market for this class of aircraft and it sounds like spending twice as much sounds like a good idea.

A single engine jet will leave you in the same spot as a single engine recip when you're flying at night, in the weather and over forbidding terrain. It's still a single engine. For a SMALL fraction of that kind of money, you can buy a twin engine jet that will haul more people further in a roomier cabin and still be piloted by one pilot. This makes NO sense at all from a safety or economic standpoint. You can buy a lot of fuel for $2 MILLION dollars.
