Welcome back to my channel! :)
Today we are trying to get some pink dye from birch bark, more precisely, birch cambium, the inner part of the bark. On the birch tree, the cambium is a beautiful dark red and we can actually extract a pink dye from it. I'm using some alpaca fibers that I used alum mordant on. The dye didn't strike as much as I hoped but I'm not mad at the results :)
Hope you enjoy the video!

You should! ;) but since its the inner part of the bark you would probably need to cut a branch or something haha

Dieing is a difficult process. These natural methods need a lot of refining to get right, this is a great result. Dont expect vibrant colours

Extracting dye from bark may require the bark to be soaked for days or even weeks in cold water before you simmer the bark. You may be able to get more dye out of your bark. Also you may be able to darken your yarn color results with an iron after bath.
