Fyi, you can't say you explode something. You trigger the explosion, and then the thing explodes. Explode is something that happens, not something you do to other things. One experiment that needs to be tweaked to maximum before it could be used is using two cameras with known integer ratio between framerates (for 110k and 11k). The angles need to be very close so it means stacked, possibly even interleaved with one camera slightly back to get close as parallel as possible. The low resolution footage can't fill the entire screen and even if the surroundings update 10 times slower, it will still give some clues of the whole experience. If the images are parallel enough (distance makes them more or less parallel), they can possibly be overlayed with most of color information coming from the slower framerate/hires camera. We are way less sensitive on color resolution so the "mismatch" between the movement on the screen between two framerates might not be that bad. I assume using some layer filtering for ex just simple add, multiply, overlay etc. would do the trick. Morphing or interpolating can change the color "blotches" to match closer to what the low resolution, high frame rate "action" on the screen is missing. Oh, i do assume a lot and one more: i think the contrast will be significantly better if you use greyscale capture. If the matching is close enough, the highres, "low" framerate camera footage providing all color information. Even if not, you can see that the color information on that footage is plenty awful and our artifacts seems to be more about that and less about brightness.

derKarl: flights to states are not cheap. One does not simply go there on a whim. Good suggestion but it really is kind of expensive, has to have multiple places and/or channels to visit.

The voice of reason ultralight only if the dynamite is NEW. If it's been in storage for any notable length of time, it becomes shock/flame sensitive. (and after a few years it needs EOD disposal, due to volatility) I would be suprised if this was older, since he complained about the cost, but the only people who know are in the video. I would still have nailed the frame together and then either assembled the charge in place or asembled and the ground and then slot the entire frame into tubes in the ground.

Either nitroglycerine and adsorbant or ammonium nitrate dynamite. AN is cheaper but I don't see the rust red cloud of nitrogen oxides produced in an AN explosion so for what its worth I'll guess it was nitro dynamite, maybe Dyno Nobel?

It's modern dynamite meaning it doesn't have the same properties as the old nitroglycerine based dynamite. It's much more stable to shock.

PoignantPirate dude, they're professional explosive experts. You don't just hand out 12 lbs of dynamite to Johnny down the street. We both know that they did what they needed to keep themselves safe. Ease up on them yea? Watch the video, enjoy the boom, let them tell the audience the whole "don't try this at home" schpeal, and say holy damn glad you guys are all ok and still alive.

TheTransforcer You can buy a case of dynamite for farm or business use pretty easily most places with very little training. (in the US, it usually just requires proof of insurance and a signed form to get a blasting permit) Thier buddy may be trained/certified in some way for stump blasting or something, but every single one of these large blast videos has had a stack of risky moves that an actual demo/explosives/range safety/etc person should instantly flag for being massively unsafe. (duck tape joins on a mixed oxy/acetelyne tube, a tin roof and only one wall on the 'blast shelter', WAY to close to the blast areas, entering the blast area before the smoke clears, no one checking the area for unexploded material before entering the blast zone, etc.) This one just crossed the line from 'risk of injury' to 'potentially fatal'.

I actually did unsub, but I keep getting reply notifications. Look, it doesn't matter where you are, the math for "this explosion can burst your eardrums or tear your lung loose from your ribs" doesn't change. Outdoors, 5lbs of TNT (one third of the amount they set off) has a 'safe evacuation distance" of 375m. 20lbs of tnt has a safe evac distance of 1700ft or 518m. Look at the overhead shot at 5:51. they're 50m away, and only behind a single sided shield and a flimsy wooden shack. Obviously they considered that flimsy wooden shack with a shield on it a "building" while calculating their MSD, but that shack provides NO protection against compression/blastwave damage, only light fragmentation. This isn't "controlled demolition", it's dangerous misuse of an explosive.

And of course a watermelon behind some metal plates as a worthy target.

Good idea I will test that next time when we have this camera.

@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 Dynamite is simply sawdust soaked in nitroglycerine. Old dynamite is inherently unsafe because as it ages the nitroglycerine begins to leach out. I once saw a film where a person had attempted to dismantle some wooden shelves in a shed where an old box of dynamite had been stored. The nitroglycerine had soaked into the wood and the first hammer blow sent the worker to his grave and the shed was demolished. It’s not something to play around with.

Augustus No way, they are actually pretty careful. The Sons of Xplosions are trained in the handling of such charges. I'm more worried about, say, Cody messing around with home-brewed nitroglycerin or Kill'em throwing himself into the English Channel in a large inflatable plastic ball with no backup plan but drowning.

The chronos captured a totally different thing as it was slower and daylight exposed. Not the burn itself but the exhaust gas bubble and the shockwave.
