Explore Easby Abbey: Scenic Three Mile Family Adventure In North Yorkshire!

A perfect family short walk, starting from the Station Car Park at Richmond along the River Swale to Easby Abbey, which was built in 1152. We also look around the 12th Century St Agatha's Church, which stands beside the Abbey and holds a replica of the famous Easby Cross, with the original being on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The Easby Cross is said to be the finest example of Anglo Saxon sculpture ever found in the UK. Footage from the air and on the ground, shows what a magnificent Abbey Easby once was and still is today. Walking back to Richmond, we pass the world famous Drummer Boy Stone, before stopping for lunch under the walls of the 11th century Richmond Castle.

The drone really gives you some perspective of how big that abbey is / was! Yup, I know we re-invest everything we make on RU-vid into the channel as well. Of course, we have to put in a chunk of our own money to keep it going, but as a creator, I know it's always appreciated when people buy your stuff or watch the ads on the channel. It really does help offset the costs of travel - as doing anything travel related is always an expensive hobby and business! I do remember the drummer boy story. Very interesting.

I still get emails about the Richmond Drummer Boy, people asking for more information and places to stop, so a real world wide interest. One thing for sure, unless you are into the 100K subs, you are not going to make a living out of RU-vid and it is an expensive hobby, especially if you are putting out weekly videos, just as well I enjoy it, as I sure as hell have not made my fortune out of it yet. I absolutely love the drone footage. The history over there blows my mind. Much of our old buildings only go back to the late 1800s. It's crazy how old all these old stone builds are. I still call Twitter by its old name - not X. I agree with using the funding from YT to put back to fuel. Thats where mine goes too.

Hi Alan, the river looks lovely over the bridge, and love the beach area by the river side,. The church was stunning with the daffodils in the cemetery. The inside was so pretty, beautiful stain glass windows. Thats amazing about the artwork being discovered again. Loved the drone footage of the Abbey shows its full potential. Good morning, Alan. The sign of spring along your hike, such as birds singing, and flowers are starting to bloom. haha hooray to no gusty winds! From the opening to the closing, the sensational air is your film, especially visit to the historic church and ruin. It makes the US a young country and I treasure every sec. Beautiful transitions by the beats in music. Your aerial views really showcases the scale of the property, liking 11:25 the most your done pulling out. It is pleasure watching it at the end of March. You have 4k footage with Gopro but YT did not offer that quality as I tried to change the quality selection when you were inside of the church. hmm...Well. It was Superior! I will be out of town till next Tuesday due to my BD. I will catch up on your vid after I am back. I feel Mrs. Metalman. I am also a private person, believe or not hahah. Hesitate to be in the film...Happy Easter.

Hi Alan that was a lovely area with gorgeous views and sights and sounds of nature including the birds 🙂🐦 Loved your drone footage over the abbey at the start and the church was lovely inside and out, beautiful stained glass window. We went to Centre Parcs 11 years in a row before Covid stuck so really looking forward to going back again. The time to go is out of the school holidays when the prices are not bad, particularly in March time, when we used to go. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

This was fantastic Alan. What a gorgeous place & wonderful to hear about the history behind it ( just right amount haha ) I loved the architecture inside and I have to admit the outside shots with your drone (unless you've grown very long legs 😄) were brilliant. It's (almost) made me change my mind about them but this seemed the perfect scenario for their use. A great peaceful place in a wonderful setting .. I'll be looking up to see where this is. Great benches for resting & having a picnic. I dislike seeing folks sitting on graves or even inside churches eating as it seems so disrespectful but that bench was simply perfect.So pleased to hear you & Mrs Metalman have a nice family break ahead & that she is feeling better.. I think history is a bit like drone footage, a bit is brilliant but too much turns people off, so trying to get the right balance lol. The walk starts at Richmond at the old railways station and is only a 3 mile loop but one I love and have been doing since I was a kid, as it is only about 15 miles from home. Great video, Alan, loved the old church and the Abbey ruins. You seem to be getting the hang of the drone very well and the overheads were great. Glad to here that Linda is on the mend, and look forward to your Centre Parc review. We had a wedding over the weekend and stayed in a hotel. We checked in online, arrived at 11,10pm, no one on reception so had to go behind the counter to find our room key cards!! Wasn't there long enough to review it as we were gone by 9am next morning. Only a 3 mile loop from Richmond but a walk I have been doing since I was a kid and never get sick of it. Great please to send the drone up too, despite a nosy neighbour asking if I had permission, he soon went away when I told him I don't need it! LOL!! Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Wow, I think Abbeys are still around to showcase the need for a drone, spectacular. Glad Mrs Metalman is on the mend. Are you on the GoPro11 Alan because your audio sounds spot on? We are done with the 12 and know the 10 is perfect but if the 11 is too that might be the next choice. An audience that likes you to do the walking whilst they watch, cough, cough. The Springstore sounds like a great option for merchandise. In awe of the drone shots, exceptional! Have a great time at CenterParcs, we love to hear more about the drummer boy! He should come back yearly.

Still on the GoPro 10 and will be giving the 13 a real good once over to see if it is worth the upgrade, as (imo) audio is a make or break for a video, so cannot get my head around the fact the 12 is so bad with the audio. I know the 13 will be out in September but will wait until the New year to make my mind up, either way, it will be nice to have the10 as a back up. Just sent my broken Volta away to GoPro for a replacement, which should be here next week. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

@@AlanMETALMANvery wise Alan. The audio is really shoddy on the 12 even with the media mod. I’ve done extensive testing on it now and managed to find a few yt videos and content creators that agree. Whilst the stabilisation and video quality is clearly superior the audio is so lousy it’s not worth touching. I could buy a £240 mic for it to make it sound as good as the 10 but that just seems like more bad money after bad.

Hi Alan 😊 Lovely ruins and church, I have visited before but in the pouring rain so didn’t do any filming. You took a nice route to get there though along the river, looked lovely and quiet. Great drone shots 😊 how are you finding flying it now? Also have you come up with a name yet for yours?

Yes, getting along great with it at the moment and sent it up 4 times yesterday at Bamburgh and Holy Island. I must admit I like to try and keep my eye on it, which s difficult when you are also looking at what it is actually filming, so I need Mrs Metalman there with me to act as a spotter I think. Still no name yet, I will have to get my thinking cap on lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

It was a while back, so I could understand how it could be forgotten. But at the very end of this video, I'm wearing your t shirt in a picture. But it turned out bad because the camera had half the shirt cut off. I remember I also ended up gaining weight right after that, and it didn't fit me anymore. I actually just tried it on now, and it is still too small 😢. You are getting really good with those drone shots, my friend! Those castle ruins looked amazing from your drone angle. Beautiful hike over all Alan.

Haha, no I had not forgotten and was only kidding and just like me, so many cloths now do not fit me, just ordered another water proof jacket for this year, as the old one (which is still new) is just getting too tight. My weigh continually goes upwards but my fitness seems to go the other way. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
