Abandoned Neighbourhood - House 8
Partially updated from its original 1988 build this is the eighth house in the my series of the abandoned neighbourhood. It was a two-storey brown brick house with a partially updated interior that still had almost all of the original stained hardwood details such as the staircase and floors. Rooms like the kitchen and the bathrooms look to have been updated once since it was built but in a tasteful way. Unfortunately like many of the other homes on the abandoned street, the basement was flooded, so we only get a glimpse of what it may have looked like.
Once located down a mature tree lined street and surrounded by forest and walking trails was a group of 14 abandoned luxury houses. They were bought by a developer for prices ranging from $3 million - $8 million dollars. The homeowners were given two years to live in the homes rent free before they were demolished.
Westford Homes was the original builder of the neighbourhood in the 80s, there were 5 different designs of homes to choose from. All of the houses were built in 1988 and each one had a single brick with the builders name on it.
There was opposition to the new development that will replace this one but ultimately it was approved. The current amendment allows for 139 new homes to be built and the size of the houses will be up to 4000 sq/ft. The neighbourhood is already long since sold out and the price of the homes was around the $2 million mark.

Man, such a nice quality home! Seeing the houses in this neighborhood really remind me of times spent visiting my dad. A lot of the details like trim and fixtures are similar to those in homes he lived in.

It will be interesting to see how the builder can finish the project with the drastically increased construction costs.
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 3 месяца назад
Yes for sure, these projects always take years to get going and the costs can change drastically in that amount of time. Thank you very much for your comment!!

So much could have been salvaged. Tearing down beautiful homes to put up more expensive but less quality homes. Makes a lot of sense. It’s all about the money.

Thank you for another great tour and loved the stills and over all shots. I think those blinds may be the ones that require a remote to open and close them. Love all the beautiful wood.

Well if they require a remote then that's why I couldn't figure it out. 😆 Glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks a lot for your comment!!

What a awesome place with all the nice craftsmanship that went into to it, still amazes me that there is so much flooding makes me wonder if these houses flooding when the families lived in them. Thanks again for another great one James.
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 4 месяца назад
Ya, I was surprised about all the flooding too, especially the one basement that was like 5 feet deep. 😂 If their sump pumps ever died they would have been in big trouble! Glad you enjoyed the tour Polly and thank you very much for your comment!!

Wonderful video! The kitchen is fantastic!! And the flooring and the doors!! WOW! The banister and stairway is amazing! That flooded basement is such a shame!! Sure would like to know a bit more about the history and why the neighbourhood was abandoned?? Thanks for sharing!
@StaticSpaces

The history and the reason why it was bought and demolished were in the intro, it is also written in the description. Thank you very much for watching!!

I went back and listened but still do not understand why! I guess money! And new subdivision, just seems like such a loss to me! Thanks Kath
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 4 месяца назад
Yes, because the street is being replaced by a new subdivision. It's to do with population growth, a lack of available housing and a lack of vacant land.

That was a beautiful home back in the day. I believe that is oak flooring and stairwell banister. I believe the window trim and sills are also oak. I think every house you’ve shown us I his subdivision has flooded basement’s. I see so many things in this house that can be salvaged and used again. The cabinets can definitely be salvaged and perhaps some of the appliances. The kitchen is awesome. I’d like to have that couch in the living room. The master bedroom is ginormous! Great video James.

Oak, so it was really good quality wood then. Yes, all the homes that didn't have walkout basements seemed to be flooded unfortunately and it really didn't take long for that to happen...the spring thaw ruined them. Glad you enjoyed it Harriet and thank you very much for your comment!!

what a waste, but who can afford houses for 2 million? Millionaires?
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 4 месяца назад
Not many people can and the saddest part is that the average price of a home in this area is about $1 million. You can't even get a tiny condo for less than about $600k. In fairness though the neighbourhood that was replaced was an upscale area and the houses they are building are about the same cost or less than the ones they demolished. With that said, you are also getting a much smaller piece of land with it too. Thank you very much for your comment!!
